Terrible experience
I had the misfortune of ordering a canon ef 70-300 IS lens that this company posted online at a price that of course was too good to be true. The next day a Sonic Camera representative called me and asked for the 3 digit security code on my Credit Card which sent the first flag up. He then told me that I would require an adapter for this lens in order to use it with my canon digital XTi. I had done some research but did not know definitively either way so I deferred to the advice of this salesperson who then, of course, suggested another lens that would be even better and not require an adapter. He provided a link to his own web site that showed this lens model that was listed for almost $700.00 but said he would sell me special Japanese version that they just got in stock that would end up saving me money. The salesman was so slick and I was so adroitly maneuvered toward my purchase of this lens that I now feel stupid and ashamed for falling into their switch & bait trap. Googling the company reaps scads of consumer horror stories that offer a litany of consumer fraud practices by this company that include: offering tremendous deals on stock that does not really exist in their inventory, switch & bait tactics, deliberately lying and presenting misinformation about products like the apocrophyl "adapter" for the canon lenses they are alleged to be selling, aggressively selling up customers accessories that are extravagantly overpriced or not even needed, draconian return policies that are often dictated on the fly in order to impede and or prevent returns, hidden costs like insurance that inflate the final bill that ends up being much higher than originally quoted prices, and the list just goes on and on. I unfortunately did not start reading all the complaints and horror stories till later that evening after I had placed my order and discovered that the lens I had purchased for $527.00 typically sells for half that price and, to add insult to injury, because the "fancy" Japanese version of the lens I has purchased would end up being a grey market lens without any valid warranty in the United States with documentation not in English. Oh boy. I had read so many stories about how rude, refractory, and insulting their customer service was that I decided to just call them the following morning at 9:00 am their time to tell them I was canceling the order, period, and that if they did fulfill my order for this lens and send it I would refuse shipment. I then called my credit card company and told them I was formally disputing the charge. I do have fraud insurance but don't know how all this will resolve yet but I just refuse to pay these crooks a dime because they outright lied to me and their fraudulent and slick sales tactics have left me feeling completely conned and abused. Never, ever buy anything from Sonic Cameras! If the deals to good to be true then it IS too good to be true and, if you have enough camera knowledge to call them on their lies and make them stick to your original order you'll just get the reflexive e-mail notification a few days later informing you that "they're sorry to report that the product you've ordered is mysteriously now on back order and no longer available." It's all just a scam to set up the old bait & switch.

Terrible everything
I recently ordered a lens for my DSLR camera. After shopping prices on the net, I settled on the purchase of a Nikon 18-200m lens from soniccameras.com for $499.99. After a few days I received an email from Sonic requesting me to " call " and confirm my order> I was suspicious after this request thinking that i would get pressure from an operator to make additional purchases. I made the call and I was correct, I was pressured somewhat to add some additional lens filters to my order. After standing firm and refusing additional purchases I was told that the lens that I had ordered was backordered 2-3 weeks and would I be interested in a different lens, discounted and available for immediate shipping. (Although after some research I found the offer was grossly overpriced) I refused and said I would wait on the lens I had specified to become available. My conversation with the salesman was over immediately as we were disconnected. The following day I received an email from Sonic stating "Unfortunately we are currently oversold on the item you have ordered, and it is currently on a backorder for 6-8 weeks. Therefore, your order has been canceled. Please note, your credit card has not been charged". Looks like bait and switch to me.

Sneaky practices
I originally ordered a Canon Speedlite 580EX online from Sonic Cameras. I WISH I had read these reviews first, because in true Sonic Camera fashion, I got the same treatment as all of these other customers. I got the email that said to call and confirm your order. When I called he asked if I wanted to buy a battery charger also. I agreed. Then he said what kind of camera do you have? Oh, the metal shoe mount will work much better for that, would you like to switch? I said OK. Then when I got my flash alright and it was switched!!! To a Sigma 530!!!
So, I called customer service to ask why it had been switched. He said you asked for it. I said I NEVER asked for a Sigma flash, I ordered a Canon flash. And his response was "I find it very ODD that you are calling 9 days later!" At that point I said "is this CUSTOMER SERVICE?, could I please speak to your manager, you are being very rude?" He said no. I don't have one. I asked again and he said "I own this place". I said "well then I won't be buying anything else from you". He said "FINE!" I will be reporting this to the BBB.

Illegal Sales Practices, Deceptive Trade Practices
I was attempting to order a Nikon D40 and during a phone call to confirm the order, the service associate attempted to 'upsell me'. When I declined the offer and asked for him to send me whatever it is I ordered as advertized, I was told my order would be cancelled and that I was subject to a 7% cancellation fee because my order has been processed!! This happened in a span of 5 minutes. I informed the representative that I would dispute the charge since I had not confirmed my order and that nothing had been shipped to me. He challenged me to do so stating 'it will take 6 months to resolve that anyway, so go ahead!'
I want to warn other consumers from this shady outfit. I alerted Discovercard and they are waiting for a charge to post on my account before initiating the dispute investigation. Nowhere on the company's website is there reference of a 7% cancellation charge! I just dont understand how Sonic Cameras can even attempt to charge for cancelling an order at the time when one is responding to either confirm or cancel the order! These people need to be stopped and the public/natonwide complaints against them are numerous. Any by the way do not waste your time with any of these online Camera stores: AVOID Broadway Photos, Fotoconnection, One Way Photo, or anyone that SENDS YOU AN EMAIL ASKING YOU TO CONFIRM AN ORDER. Reputable companies will call you to confirm that you are the bona fide owner of the credit card, not to tack on other items to your order!!

Scam operation!
I am currently doing battle with this scam company. The same thing happened to me as the other folks. I plan on filing a complaint with the NY Attorney General's office about this company and their illegal actions. I have also put my credit card charge into dispute and will have a screaming match in the next few hours with customer service. At http://www.resellerratings.com/ you will find 75 other people with much the same complaints against this online store. STAY AWAY FROM THIS STORE. This is a scam operation!!!
DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH WWW.SONICCAMERAS.COM (NOTE THE PLURAL OF CAMERA AT THE END TO GET THE CORRECT ADDRESS).

Scam and thieve!
These people are total scams!! I bought a Canon 70-200mm f/2.8 IS lens on April 2, 2008 for $1, 199 with my American Express card and they sent an email confirmation of a four digit number but no confirmation of the amount of money I just spent. The next morning I get a call from a man named Michael at Phone # (347)274-0713 ext 222 saying they needed to confirm my order from the night before, which I thought was really weird. Michael proceeds to tell me that they no longer accept American Express and if there was another way for me to pay. I told him that I only use my AMX card for charges and I don't use anything else. So he tried to talk me into doing a C.O.D or pull cash off my credit card. I told him, I will not do that and to forget about my order and cancel it. He said he would cancel it.
I still felt a little leery, so when I got home from work I called AMX and told them my situation and asked them to check if there were any charges from this company on my card. They said there were no charges. I still was not satisfied so I did some digging myself and googled Sonic Cameras and found a whole lot of bad trash of other consumers being scammed. All bad reviews. These people are sick! I did cancel my card with AMX and got fraud protection and they are reissuing me a new card. BEWARE THIS FAKE COMPANY IS A FRAUD!!! DON'T FALL FOR THERE CHEAPER PRICES LIKE I DID!!! DON'T DO BUSINESS WITH THESE A-HOLES! I also believe they may be doing business by another name called BEST PRICE CAMERA'S the website sites look exactly the same and the prices are exactly the same... WATCH OUT FOR YOUR POCKETS!
