Sony Vaio
I bought a Sony Vaio in May 2009 as a gift to my wife and up to this date Sony HAS NOT fixed it. The Sony Vaio is really bad, very slow and the tech support and customer service is the worst.
Please let me know if there is a class action litigation going on, I will join. In he meantime
DO NOT BUY SONY!!!

Lack of transparency International Warranty
I purchased a Sony ICD-UX80 digital recorder in Jan 2009 from Amazon.com. Visiting family in Melbourne and overnight it stopped working. Sony Australia required a TLW card (Tourist Limited Warranty card) from retailer - Amazon & Sony US had never heard of these cards??? Sony Australia refused to honor my 12 month warranty & didn't even care when I produced documented proof from Sony US that they had never heard of these cards. I will never buy another Sony product after being loyal for most of my adult life. Sony Australia wanted to charge me $300 to fix ( almost 3times the cost of a new recorder).
However to renew my trust in large companies Amazon offered to give me a refund as a result of Sony's lack of support of their own product. Obviously I will continue to remain a loyal customer of Amazon. Beware of Sony products if you are contemplating travelling abroad because their warranty is then null & void and they hide behind subterfuge to try & fool customers into thinking they have warranty.

defective batteries
Not buying consumer electronics goods from Sony would be the safest option if one wants to avoid being cheated!!

I recently bought a voice recorder from Sony showroom for Rs. 6000/-

After just 2 - 3 days I realise that the battery given with the voice recorder is a bad one and gets discharged within just 15 - 20 mins even after charging it fully!

So that makes the voice recorder not usable unless I have a good battery.

I go to the showroom where I bought the voice recorder and the response I get from them is so totally negative. They refuse to give a battery replacement for the voice recorder which was just 2 - 3 days old.

The response is the same from any part of Sony - be it the showroom, the call center, the so called 'head office' for sony. They give such rude responses and help the customer in feeling cheated!!

One of my friends also had a similiar experience and we feel that Sony is not only making money by selling Consumer electronics but by also selling old and defective products and accessories forcing the customers to buy new ones in case of any problems...

Very poor after sales service
I wish I had gone through this site before buying a Sony Vaio. I have a FZ15 G which lost its graphic card for some reason. Sony service centre (Kanpur) kept it for a month and every day gave a different response -- They had no clue whatsoever of what the company intended to do. Only after I called up a regional manager did they call me back and say that they were unable to process the service as it was outside warranty. agreed and i would have maybe paid for the service but these guys informed me within two days after i had deposited the laptop that it was a manufacturing defect and it was the company's responsibility to do the repairs!!! Double speak and plain and simple disinterest -- India hai bhai sab chalega! Sony has definitely lost a loyal customer. I would never ever buy or recommend any of their products when others are available for nearly half the price and have found them to be much better in responding to complaints.

Terrible experience
When Spiderman 3 came out, I bought a copy to watch at home. Unfortunately, it would not play on my Sony DVD player. After exchanging it for another copy, it still would not play. However, it would play on my computer. After several more DVD purchases, it became evident that newer movies most likely would not play on my Sony. I contacted Sony expecting a "firmware" upgrade but found that they were not interested in helping me. Their telephone response was that maybe if enough people complained, they "may or may not" do something. Although the player palys older DVD's, they kept telling me to have it serviced (at my expense), but that servicing would not help it play new DVD's. I also sent Sony and email. Their response:"Since the DVD specifications changes periodically, some discs may not play depending on the disc type and the version. This is normal. Unfortunately, this cannot be resolved by any upgrades." These aren't "some discs"- these are ALL recently released videos from all studios!

Maybe I'm too ideslistic, but I think that a DVD player should play any officialy issued DVD. I thought that the DVD symbol was meant to guarantee compatability.

It appears that Sony thinks it has a cash cow - change the DVD format every few years and force people to buy new players. If this was done with CD players, we would all still be playing LP's!

Do not stand behind their products
Receiver quit working on left channel after 6 months light use. Called Sony and they said unit has internal problem and asked me to send it in for service.

1) Sony would not pay for shipping. Cost me $38 including insurance and tracking number.

2) Once at repair center in Laredo Texas Sony state there are some scratches on the unit thus it has physical damage and no longer under warranty.

3) Wrote to Customer Relations requesting repair under warranty.

4) Customer relations declined to fix under warranty and wanted $325 to repair it saying the unit had signs of physical damage.

Dont buy Sony. The repair process is horrible and they will not honor warranty.

I have spend thousands with Sony. Then when I need something repaired they are unhelpful and try to find ways of not repairing your unit under warranty.

I do not trust them anymore and will never buy another Sony product.

A total waste of $500.00.

I am fully agree, sony service centre has no quality of work. even a machanic from a chouraha can do better job. they r not perfect about their job even i can not understand that why "Sony (the great brand)" authorize to this type of stupid persons to open a authorize centre. these all words i am talking about the sony South Extension Part-II, New delhi Centre.

I got repaired my music system from there and after reaching home it was again in that condition (not working), i called up but got a stupid reply that they r not responsible for that after handovering the system even they have not engineer to provide home service.

It means either we are stupid person to purchase a product from sony or they are smart person who r athorizing to open a sony service centre to make fool their customer.

I think "SONY" provide authorization to their service centre to make fool all the innocent persons who believes on sony products.

Last August 8-11, 2009, I, together with my wife, visited Singapore for the first time to see

the nice spots your country is noted for. After a half day tour on august 9, we went to THE

CAMERA SHOP PTE LTD at No. 1 Rochor Grand Canal, Road Sim Lim Square (Tel No. 63376267, Fax

No. 63376297) to buy a Sony video camera model dcr dvd 908 with complete accessories for

S$1, 790 (OR # 16939 & 16940). We were pleased with our purchase and continued with our tour.

Unfortunately, when we got home in the Philippines, we discovered that we were given a used

video camera. When we looked closely, we found a sticker on the camera that was purposely

placed to conceal scratches. Further, we discovered that some parts of the camera have been

worn from frequent use.

Obviously we are very upset. We had fond memories of your great country until we realized

that we've been defrauded by one of your own. We do not want this incident to be our lasting

impression of your country so we hope you take appropriate action so this does not happen

again. Thank you.
