SPCA Clinic Springfield Park, Durban Reviews

Strays have life too!!!
On the first occasion I was appalled at the SPCA was when my domestic worker had taken her dog to the SPCA and was turned away. Her dog’s uterus had popped out. She had then taken her dog in a bus to the SPCA for treatment but was turned away because she had not had ample money. My domestic worker had not told me about this or else I would have taken the dog straight to my Vet. Eventually the dog’s uterus replaced itself and she only told me months later. I was very cross but had not pursued the matter as it was so late down the line.

On Friday evening I had taken my puppy to our Vet for her 3rd booster shot. Upon reaching there a Siberian Husky was being collected by the owners. This dog underwent an Op as his hair was shaved out showing a puncture wound on its neck. After hovering over the dog we had found out what had happened to the dog. He had run away from home and got into a fight with another dog. He was then taken to the SPCA by an unknown person. The SPCA refused to operate on the dog as they branded it a stray! The dog was at the SPCA for a couple days before the owners claimed it. They rushed the dog straight to our Vet where he was immediately attended to. Our Vet said he had removed maggots and treated the wound, and that the dog would heal nicely now.
I was dismayed at the attitude of the SPCA. I contribute almost every year to the SPCA, whether it be money or food, whatever I can, whenever I can. Now being a person who contributes to the SPCA, how would I feel if my dog was brought into the SPCA and treatment was turned down? I would be utterly horrified! How would the SPCA know who the dog belongs to? I looked very closely at this Siberian Husky and he was a well kept dog, he was healthy and had a lovely coat. So how could the SPCA turn down treatment for this dog and brand it a stray is beyond my comprehension!

Even if it was a stray, how can you deny the animal treatment? Ever hear of compassion? How can you not treat an animal that is in pain? I am very saddened by this. However, I will no longer contribute to the SPCA. I rather contribute to the Animal Anti Cruelty League (which I had just done last week) and the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association. By doing this I will sleep a whole lot better at night.
