Yesterday I found (through Yahoo! Shopping) this website:
http://www.spicy-electronics.com/
which was advertising a great deal on a computer monitor. I ordered it, using a credit card, after which I received a confirmation e-mail. The website suggested that my order would be processed the same day, and shipped overnight via UPS, and shipping was free! (in retrospect, too good to be true)
Now, my order has not been processed, so I tried calling the phone number given on the website. It turns out, the phone number goes to some family in Michigan (in the same region as the address listed on the website) who have a message on their answer machine saying that they are not a website, and that their phone number is listed on the internet in error, so please don't leave a message.
I also ran into another version of this same website, on which the name of the company was listed as Diego Electronics. They gave a different phone number, which goes to a bicycle shop in San Diego! The bike shop owner told me he gets calls from people like me every few weeks, usually asking for a different company. So, I'm starting to strongly suspect that I was duped, and that this scam artist advertises good deals on electronics, takes credit card numbers, and then changes the website.
Anyone run into this before? Thanks for any comments or suggestions.
