THIS MUST BE INVESTIGATED! Not unlike all major wireless service providers, Sprint Nextel maintains an "official" website (www.sprint.com) where individuals may puchase service and products at online prices. Sprint also maintains a separate site (www.sprintrelaystore.com) which is, for the most part, designed to serve the deaf and hard of hearing in purchasing services and products. Many of the products and services offered on the relaystore site are exactly the same as those offered on Sprint's "official site. My question is WHY ARE THE PRICES FOR THE EXACT SAME SERVICES AND PRODUCTS TWICE THE AMOUNT ON THE THE DEAF AND HARD OF HEARING SITE THAN THOSE LISTED ON THE OFFICIAL SITE?
To illustrate my point I have attached screenshots taken reflecting the price differential of mock orders placed on 7/5/10 for the exact same device and service.
WWW.SPRINT.COM - 7/5/10 Followed the online process to establish a new line of service consisting of the Overdrive™ 3G/4G Mobile Hotspot by Sierra Wireless, priced at $49.99 with a 2-year commitment and no rebate process. See, attachment 2010-07-05_ODrive-Official Site Pricing. Also selected the required price plan ($59.99) for the device. See, attachment 2010-07-05_Price Plan-Official site. When ordering via Sprint's "official" site, it is common practice for both the standard shipping costs ($12) and the activation fee ($36) to be waived. This is refelected in the final one-time out-of-pocket cost to complete the order, which is $49.99 plus tax, fees etc.. See, attachment 2010-07-05_Official Site-ODrive Final Pkg Price.
The above pricing is quite different from the following order for the exact same services and products.
WWW.SPRINTRELAYSTORE.COM - 7/5/10 Followed the online process to establish a new line of service consisting of the Overdrive™ 3G/4G Mobile Hotspot by Sierra Wireless, with a 2-year commitment priced at $99 after a $50 rebate, . See, attachment 2010-07-05_ODrive-Relaystore Pricing and 2010-07-05_Relaystore Rebate. The order also included the required price plan ($59.99) for the device. See, attachment .2010-07-05_Price Plan-RelayStore. As opposed to the official site, it is clearly stated that shipping charges ($12/device) and activation fees ($36/device) will be incurred. See, attachment 2010-07-05_extra costs. Ultimately, the final one-time out-of-pocket cost to complete the order via the relaystore site is a whopping $197.99 plus tax, fees etc.. ($149.99 + $12 + $36 = $197.99)
PLEASE investigate how/why Sprint Nextel feels justified in charging the deaf and hard of hearing almost $150 more than they charge on the official site when the packages ordered are EXACTLY THE SAME.
