I’ve been going to St. Paul's Veterinary Clinic for approximately 20 years. I have not, over the years, had many issues with them and have always liked that they are open late and that they are the least expensive veterinarian's in town for shots.

About 15 years ago my husband and I had an incident with one of our dogs when it was time to have him neutered. We had just had him in about a week prior to the neutering for an ear infection and he was given some ointment for the ears. I remember calling prior to his neutering appointment to find out if it would be ok for him to miss the one day with the ear medication while he was in the hospital getting "fixed" and was told that they could give him the medication for us. I was relieved and thankful. Unfortunately, I was also naive enough to believe it would be free of charge so when the bill came and I saw that they charged us $15 dollars to apply the ointment I didn't want to pay it because we weren't told in advance that they would be charging us for this. If they had we wouldn't have declined since it was only one day and we didn't need to pay an extra $15 dollars just so they could wipe some ointment in his ears. Well because we refused to pay that $15 dollars they put a note in our file [which followed us for the past 15+ years I found out today!] saying that we were "problem" clients.

Which brings me to my experience today.

I went in today for my dogs' yearly shots and when I gave the woman my name her demeanor noticeably changed. I thought nothing of it and answered her questions. When she asked me if I wanted my 1 year old dog to have a heart worm test I asked if it was truly necessary since he has been on interceptor uninterrupted for the whole year at which time she rudely cut me off mid sentence and stated that she would just have me speak with the vet. I was shocked. I tried to politely ask her again and she rudely interrupted me again at which point I said, "Wow, you're really rude."

She replied with "No, you're rude and there's a note in your file saying that we've had problems with you before."

It seemed clear to me at that point that she had made up her mind about me before she had even spoken to me. Made up her mind as soon as she opened up my file, in fact.

She was rude, disrespectful, and very unprofessional.

My husband and I have been going there for years. We’ve had 3 dogs die... all of which we had cremated through them. We have been with this vet for years and to be treated so cruelly was uncalled for and unacceptable. We will never go back there again and I urge anyone thinking of trying this vet to go to The Small Animal Clinic on Milwaukee’s East Side instead... or any other clinic, in fact.

You will get better service and your animals will be treated better.
