Stamps.com Reviews

Beware
I was promised and signed up for a free 4 week trial plus $5 free postage by stamps.com on Aug. 9th. I received an email from stamps.com next day stating that I qualified for a free 4-week trial, free scale, plus $25 free postage if I stay beyond 4 weeks and signed up.

When I phoned to cancel before the 4 weeks was up, they told me that they could not access my accounts because their system was down. I asked them to cancel both accounts as soon as the system came back up and that I would not use their free postage. Instead of cancelling both accounts, they charged my credit card two separate monthly fees of $15.95 each. I never used the $5 free postage, believing that my accounts had been cancelled as requested. When I phoned to inquire this morning, they refused to remove both charges or, in the alternative, to give me the $25 free postage.

Beware of stamps.com. Their toll-free number is 888-434-0055.

misleading signup
Stamps.com will get you to sighn up for a free trial then when the trial has ended keeps billing you.
I called and they said that I still owed for charges and they would offer mr 5$ in stamps if I would continue the service. I said I would not and would not pay for something I didn't use. I said that The company I work for would never do anything dishonest and basicly dishonest and then the represenitive hung up on me.

misleading advertising
I received a CD in the mail that appeared to be updated software from the U.S. Postal Service. I installed it, and THEN discovered that I had signed up for an ongoing service at something like $17.99 per month. My mistake.

I immediately attempted to cancel this account, but there is no mechanism to do this online.

I called the customer service number to cancel this today, and, although I was successful, the person on the phone continued to give me the hard sell. This wasn't a quick or easy process.

frauhulent misrepresentation of service and failure to clearly disclosure terms
Stamps.com is a licensed agent of the United States Postal Service

Stamps.com clearly identifies its software and additional items e.g. postage scale as "free" (plus shipping). Shipping for additional items cost $8.96, for the 5lb. scale package.

Stamps.com sent me two e-mails: (1) a welcome e-mail without any mention of a subscription service or associated fees (only reference to a trial period absent terms): and (2) a shipping invoice for the additional items.

After 4 weeks, my credit card was billed 15.99 for service. I received notice only by my credit card statement. Stamps.com did not sent any invoice regarding a subscription fee despite that they customarily sent e-mails for other events.

During a complaint call to stamps.com, I emphasized how it appears fraudulent to clearly indicate "free" software and "free" scale without clear mention of the actual cost of service. This point is compounded by invoices received for "free" items and none received for subscription based service. The agent conceded this fact and apologized. He explained that the "terms and conditions" were agreed to by clicking a check box and that such fees were sort forth there. I further explained that it is appalling that as a representative of the USPS that they conduct business this way: transparent regarding promotions yet elusive regarding actual fees. Again, I received a acknowledgment and apology. The agent had no authority to waive the charges, but offered to continue the service for two free months. This is not a cost effective solution for a customer that generates a mere 1-2 shipping labels per month. The account was canceled and charges disputed with credit card company.

Do not fall for stamps.com shady business practices. One shipping label cost me $25.09 ($8.96 for "free" items that are worthless without the stamps.com service, plus a 15.99 charge for service)

fraud
I note a complaint herein that is identical with what was recently done to me although the writer feels that USPO authorizes this crumb crud outfit ripping people off - that would be incorrect. The con job is in using USPO info (note the subtle indirect difference in the logos) to entrap the innocent victims they snare. You get a shpiel about getting stamps with a flick of your keyboard to save you from going to the post office but then comes the "trap". In all the mumbo jumbo, unless you read and re-read (and even then) you are "hit" with a monthly fee - like me as of July 2009 - for $20.00 per month they draw right out of your bank account for...READY? !!SERVICE FEES!!

Yes folks, not postage, not a piggy bank from which to draw postage stamps but...SERVICE FEES in order to purchase, say a 45 CENT STAMP!! A real deal eh? Why would anyone pay a monthly fee of $20.00 to buy postage stamps? Even if you used $100.00 worth of stamps a month why the heck would anyone want to spend an added $20.00? Why not just go to the P.O. and buy a postage meter which is what large outfits do. RIP OFF IS AN UNDERSTMENT WITH THIS OUTFIT. And it is very difficult to get rid of the charge eh?
DON'T GET RIPPED OFF. DOWN WITH STAMPS.COM

won't cancel account keep charging
I signed up for a trial account with Stamps.com. My first "free" postage did not print. I tried to contact them and they never replied. I tried subsequently to cancel my service during my trial period. It did not get cancelled. My bill is now up to over $120.00. I keep trying to cancel, they keep sending bills and I return them stating to cancel the account. I cannot get through on the phone. Why is my account still open so that they keep charging the monthly fee. Wouldn't a normal business cancel my account due to non payment. HOW DO I GET THIS TO STOP??????

GENERAL
WHAT A RIP OFF! When signing up, the fact that they will charge $15 per month whether you use the service or not is conveniently de-emphasized. After four months of paying this charge, NO POSTAGE I might add, I called to cancel the service...You can't cancel over the internet...hmmm?

The person named Bryson said that I would still have to pay the current months bill! He did not want to continue the call and cancel my 'subscription' after I informed him he was being recorded. I re-asserted that I was calling to cancel the service and that they were indeed recording my conversation, I would record theirs. After putting me on hold for a moment, he came back and gave me the confirmation for the cancellation.

DON'T LET THESE SCHEISTERS GET AWAY WITH THIS B.S.!

Won't let you cancel your membership
This shady business sent me software that didn't work after I signed up online. Then, when I tried to cancel online, it wants me to call some 1-800 number at 6am on Monday. It is totally shady to only allow cancellations by phone, for a business whose ENTIRE goal is to do business online. It's transparent that they will do anything they can to just bill you extras secretly and then make it impossible to quit. Not to mention, I've gotten tons of spam ever since I signed up. Jerks.

Unauthorized billing
I had no idea I was being charged a monthly fee for what I thought was some freebie information from Stamps.com. It was a year before I noticed a 17.99 charge on my card. I called to cancel and the rep asked if I ever got the 'free' scale. I said no and she said she would send it and then cancel. the scale only works with Stamps.com software. How ignorant is that? She did not cancel and I have now been charged 3 more months, which I have challenged through american express. If people like this only knew what 17.99 means to me. It is medicine and groceries. Where has integrity gone? I too am interested in a class action suit.
