Simply the worst SMS service
I subscribe to 'My updates'. I have multiple accounts and used to recieve SMS transactions on all. Every six months or so - one specific account's SMS messages just fail to appear. I go into the branch - get to speak to different consultants every time, identify myself, explain the story, they phone their call centre, they identify themselves and me, explain the story etc. After a day or two, I start receiving all SMS messages again but six or seven month down the line - I am put through the same agony. Maybe it is time to consider going to another bank (after 30 years) because I cannot see how they won any award for service or anything else! It is just simpe - their service and client contact is: NOT UP TO ANY DECENT STANDARD!

Astonished by the now apparent inefficient service
On 27 November 2009, I applied for a home loan through a bond originator. On 12 December, the home loan was approved. I was delighted and pleasantly surprised by the efficient service of Standard Bank. Upon discovering that the bond originators had not been honest and upfront about the fact that although the assessor appointed by the bank valued the property at the same value as the purchase price, the full amount would not be advanced if one uses a bond originator rather than apply in person, I cancelled the home loan on 18 February. I did so in the hope of re-applying in my individual capacity for the purchase of the same property. All of this was disclosed to the bank where no objection was raised as registration had not taken place. Confirmation of the cancellation and NTU was on 25 February. On 26 Feberuary, I went to the Northcliff branch to re-apply for the home loan with all of the required documents. On that same day, I got a text confirming receipt of the application and reference number. I called today to enquire about the status and I was told that there is an adverese listing on my credit profile. This cannot be true. I do not have a negative credit profile.

No improvement on service
About 3 weeks ago I posted my complaint regarding the terrible service I received from Standard bank, to date my query has not been sorted. I feel like I was just given a call by standard bank to shut me up or at least to make sure that I do not post another complaint.

I was given a call from a lady the day after I posted my complaint who assured me that she would assist me and my problem would be sorted out soon. What has happened since that phone call absolutely nothing all this has done is decrease my faith in Standard bank just when I thought they had redeemed themselves they disappoint me again.

Whats worse is that they promise to call me on a certain day to inform me of the progress what then happens is that I have to call them every time, makes you wonder if they can't keep a promise to call a client back what is it that they can do for their clients.

It saddens me to think that the only time someone will assist you is when you post a complaint on this website, is this what we need to do to get a response out of our banks. My only option now is to seek advice from the banking ombudsman maybe then someone will take me seriously.

Stay away from Standard Bank
I have been with Standard Bank for the last 10 15 years. My accounts are up to date, never missed a payment, but just hit a bad patch and would like to make a loan to consolidate my debts.

My fiance and I run a company - so i get a salary every month which differs as to the work load and profits.
I have applied for a loan which has now been turned down and i need to produce financials and a papers from my bookkeeper. It has nothing to do with my company i am requesting a personal loan.So I now have to go into the branch like a pesant and beg and plead for a loan from a bank who i have supported for how many years.
As soon as i have paid off my existing loan i will close all my accounts with STD bank if this is the service they give.

Home Loan Debit order taken off on the wrong date
We have a new HL with STD Bank. Debit Order signed with Lawyer to go off on the 25th of the Month. STD Bank Has taken the Debit order of on the 20th of Jan & Feb. Overdrawing my account and ruining my credit rating and costing me the returned debit order fee. None of which is my fault. Then have the audacity to call and demand the payment. I have spoken to Kevin at their collections dept. Never got back to me. Called Credit Rehab centre and asked for a senior manager to call me spoke to Mohleboneng Ntee @ 9:55 am 250210. Still no response.

What a complete waste of time
I am totally appalled that on the Standard Bank Vehicle and Asset website, Standard Bank offers pre-approval for vehicle finance. The claim on the website is: Having pre-approved finance is like shopping with a cheque in your back pocket. You'll find it easier to decide which car to buy if you know upfront how much finance you qualify for. So, don't wait like everybody else for their finance application to be approved, go ahead now and apply for pre-approved finance. All you are required to do once you have found the car of your dreams is present your pre-approval certificate to the dealer and sign for your vehicle.

My fiancé applied and got an ‘unable to process’ excuse, she was given a number to call. After speaking to one of the consultants, they said because she wasn’t a Standard Bank client they couldn’t offer pre-approval. NOWHERE on the website does it say that you have to be a client of Standard Bank, I check all terms and conditions!!

What a complete waste of time.

Absolutely disgusted with unprofessionalism
I contacted the 0861 201 000 number to enquire about a card. This unprofessional lady by the name of Penny answered, and told me to call another department. According to the voice prompts - I was definitely in the correct department. When I asked her to put me through to the dept, as I was driving and could not write the number down - she says she cant. I then asked - Cant you get someone in that dept to contact me? She says 'Well I dont really know anyone in that department'

I am shocked by this uprofessionalism. Its not the service I am used to by Standard Bank, and I trust this matter will be dealt with accordingly. If not, then I will take it that you don't want my business any further.

pay account without any supporting documentation
I received a call 2 weeks ago from a collection agency, they said that I had been handed over to MBD collections agency on the 30/11/2010 for the amount of R398.00 for a Game card affiliated to Standard Bank. I have not had a game card since 1996 so I was curious, I phoned Game and they have no record of an account in my name and they bank with ABSA not Standard Bank, I phoned Standard bank and they say they have the outstanding balance under my id number outstanding since they think around 2000, or could be about July 1998, I asked them if they could tell me the exact date and if they could tell me what it was for or provide proof of the purchase, they refered me to their Lawyer. I have attempted to contact the Lawyer numerous times and left messages or been on hold for 5/6 min at a time to no avail to sort this issue out. I left south africa in Jan 1996 and only returned to South Africa in 2006, when I left to my knowledge the account was closed with no monies owed. The tracing agency first told me to email them stating this, then I told the supervisor that game does not have any account under my name he then informed me that I need to submit an avidavit to that effect, which costs money and why did the first guy not tell me this? incompetence is unbelieveable. I gave them 1 week to produce the evedence of the transaction and any supporting documentation to which i have received no further comminciation... it has been ignored. Now I know that judgement cannot be passed if older than 3 years but this incompetent idiots dont even know when or what it is for which is very scary as now they can black list me if I do not pay which is blackmail and ilegal... what does one do in this instance???

They debited my account on the wrong day
One the 4th of January I phoned Standard Bank homeloans and asked them to change the date of my debit order for my house bond. The tenant in the house said he would pay his rent on the 10th of January, to allow for the cash flow implication I phoned Standar Bank and asked them to change the debit order date of my bond to the 12th of January for this month, I would then personally change the date back for the following months.
the lady on the other side of the line confirmed that she changed the date on my debit order after she confirmed it with her team leader.

tonight on the 6th of January I get an sms that shows the debit order went off today, now I'm stuck with a negative bank balance because of Standard Bank's incompetence!!!

If this is your idea of customer service I will gladly move my bond to Absa!!

Poor service
Our numerous e-mailed requests to get home loan account balance as well as bank details to settle it are plainly ignored by the following persons at Windhoek main branch: Elmine Ulafson (despite promise given over the phone), Mostert and Charles Beukes. No possibility to settle account since our first message sent on 22 October 2010. Very convenient for Standard Bank: we pay interest for every day of their relaxed silence.
