I don't know where to start. They denied my Short Term Disability Claim. I believe it was in bad faith. They said I could work because I was able to sit in a chair. They ignored all of my symptoms and anything the doctor said, well they applauded the fact that he was in my court...but it didn't count. Some Physician Consultant, who works for Standard, who has never met me decided that I must be lying and not sick. He did not say it in those words, but it's obvious. It didn't help that Kaiser was my medical provider. What a comedy of errors. Later I discovered that they had me listed as an active drug addict! I cleaned up my act more than 15 years ago and Kaiser helped pay for it!!!. So since they decided to say I was a drug addict when I am not, I'm sure that didn't help my Disability Claim. Talk about the white elephant in the room. I'm sure that they denied my claim because they thought I was just a drunk or a junkie, so of course I'm sick. But of course, no one would come right out and say it. If anyone cared to listen I could explain in great detail, but alas I have no one. Lawyers want a fee up front and wont handle Short Term Disability claims for the most part. I believe that this claim should have been rolled over to a Long Term Disability claim. The topper is that I also had worked for the disability company for 10 years and know their tactics. They just wanted to get rid of me because they wanted someone in my position they could pay less money. They took advantage of me when I was sick and not up to defending myself. I am not totally disabled, but cannot keep up with a regular job. I have bad days and good days, sometimes bad months on end. They made no effort to help me in HR. I was not allowed to come back to try to work part time. The "new" position was in another part of town and would have been an additional hour commute added to my already hour or more commute (one way). Being sick made it hard to take the hour commute and they wanted to tack on more? How is that going to help my health. The one HR person I had been working with must have been fired because when the new person took over it was over for me. They said come back to work (if you can get a job with us-but you will have to apply, apply, apply. And frankly I am not up to it) or you are done. I needed money desperately so I had to cash in my 401K. Now I have no health insurance, no job, no income, nothing. They never once reached out to me to help one of their better employees. Dumped and forgotten. And...still sick...very sad. I get so angry because I don't have the energy to fight the system. I can't get unemployment because they kept me hanging for months and months and months before they denied my claim. I wish they would have just fired me.
