OK so first of all this happened in 2007, and I did not know about this site at the time, but I still feel that it is my duty to warn everyone about these people. Second, I will also be complaining about the Rockview/ Centre County DMV in Pleasant Gap, PA, since they had fault in this too..
Now a little background. In early 2006, took my driver's license exam at the DMV, and failed, but for some reason they sent me a camera card/ temporary license, telling me to come get the photo for my license taken. The next week, I had passed my test through the State College Area High School Driver's Ed Program. When I showed my instructor the camera card I was sent, he told me to go to the DMV and ask about it. However, he stamped my permit so I could use it as a license, and he claimed to send my paperwork, including proof of me passing the test, to the driver's license bureau. That Saturday, I went to the dmv, and explained the situation to them, and they told me to just use the card I got in the mail. I got my license, and lived happily for a year..
Fast-forward to May 2007. My wallet was stolen (fortunately there wasn't much of anything of value in it), and I had to cancel all my cards and everything, and get new ones. When I went to the DMV to get a new license, they looked at me funny, and said my record in the computer says I only have a permit, and there is no record of me passing my test. After I repeatedly insisted that I did, the very rude guy at the desk got his supervisor, and his supervisor said he would contact Harrisburg the next few days. A few days later, I got a call back from the supervisor, and he claimed that at the Driver's License Bureau in Harrisburg, no one could find any record of me passing my test. He then told me to come to the DMV the next day, and that he would make a few calls to the State College Area HS (SCAHS) driver's ed department, and ask if they had a record of me passing my test.
I figured this would be the end of the situation. WRONG. When I came to the DMV the next day, I was told that the SCAHS driver's ed staff could not find any record of me passing my test, although they did say I passed the in-car training, after I showed them my card.I was even more annoyed, because the guy at SCAHS who administered my test, was a coach on the football team, which I had played on my entire time there. He had seen me in the halls several times, knew my name, and said hi many times before. Yet, he was now claiming to have no recollection of meeting me, or even hearing of me. The guy at the DMV said he was sorry, but I would probably have to take my test again. I was outraged, but reluctantly scheduled another test. I was about to admit defeat, when the next day, I got lucky. My mother had contacted our insurance agent, and he sent her a copy of the stamped permit from when I passed my test, and a copy of my license I had lost. Armed with these documents, I went to the DMV the next morning, and showed them to the guy who had been making calls all week. He went back and called the SCAHS driver's ed department again, and left a message, telling them I had brought proof that I had passed my test, and that they did sign for it. We waited, and a few moments later, they called back, claiming they had "suddenly" found my test, and it was never sent in. I am pretty sure they just didn't bother to look the first time. I was relieved to have the crisis settled, but still annoyed, as the guy at the DMV still tried to blame me for this predicament, even though I had little, if any, fault in it.
Bottom Line: If you arrange anything through either the DMV, or the SCAHS driver's ed department, make copies of all paperwork they give you, and store them in a safe place. Because they won't keep track of anything.
