State Farm Reviews

File an claim
I had filed a claim with State Farm (claim #118052234) because there insured hit may new car I just purchased that day and took off. I called the police and gave the tag number and a description off the car. Well I filed a claim with State Farm never heard from them and was told that someone will go out and look at her car a week later after the accident. So last week I get a letter in the mail telling me they are denying my claim because she didn't have no damages to her car. I was upset because they never tried making contact with the other person that was in my car when there insured hit my car and left the scene. So I spoke with William Dillard who was handling my claim which I left a message for him to call me back and he didn't so I had to call him the next day. I also spoke with his supervisor Bob C. and he told me to call my insurance company and file my claim. I just felt like the situation could have been handle better then it was. So is State Farm trying to tell me if someone hit your car and leave the scene you better follow them and make contact with the police while you are chasing them down and hopefully they don't have an weapon on them...Wow

Claim processing
My AGent Scott Dawson is a real piece of work, does not return calls, slow in processing insurance and is flat lazy. The Adjuster if that is what sh is called Summer Winegardner is also a piece of wotrk, does not keep appointments and subscribes to the Insurance policy of Deny and delay. Last year State Farm earned from us as customers 46 billion dollars..

Failing to pay claims
State Farm is truly the worst insurance company on the planet. I have been a customer for over 20 years and paid them over $100, 000 in insurance premiums. I have had two claims for water and/or wind damage over these years and both times they denied the claims other than in one instance they paid $450 on a $10, 000 + claim. Contrast this to Chubb who immediately paid about a $50, 000 claim on a water damage issue to a house I own. Drop State Farm and move to a reputable company like Chubb if you want your claims paid! Also do a google search on State Farm Fraud Katrina and you will see how they ripped off their policy holders after a hurricane!

Wont Cover My Claim
ABOUT ME:
Hello, my name is Johnathan, I am a hard working American citizen residing in Miami FL… a certified Fire Fighter and Paramedic… on a waitlist in the county to be notified of placement when opens up. I go to school fulltime and have a 2 year old daughter and a 5 year old son that I support while working at the hospital as an Emergency Medical Technician… One thing that I don’t understand is why a BIG company such as State Farm would bully and take the opportunity to squash and pulverize me. Here is my recent experience dealing with State Farm and I hope a little voice like the one I am raising can one day help others.

PURCHASED ONLINE INSURANCE:
It’s MARCH 22ND 2011… I was excited that I was finally able to purchase one of the cars of my dreams (a used 2002 Mercedes CL500). Previously having had Geico, I had no problems with them but my fiancée and my best friend both have State Farm, so I decided that maybe I would give State Farm a try since insurance is insurance and they are one of the biggest insurance companies.
So, I jumped onto www.StateFarm.com … I filled out all of the details and questions to the best of my abilities, I even entered my Driver’s License so they could see my record transparently. After I finished getting a quote, I paid with my credit card over $320 and I printed out my Policy Binder with all of the policy information. Yey, that was easy!
Perfect, so I start to drive my car with confidence that I am fully covered… I install my baby daughter’s baby seat and start driving my daily driver CL500 =)

IN COMES THE WEEKEND!
It’s MARCH 26TH 2011… It’s a beautiful day for the BEACH in MIAMI and I jump into the car with my baby daughter and my friend visiting from New York for the weekend; and we head out to Miami Beach.

ACCIDENT:
On the expressway on our way to the beach, I run over a a construction metal lid on the floor of the expressway… since my car is on 22 inch wheels with very thin performance tires, it leaps and hits the floor hard and the wheel bends making me lose control, hitting a curb and initiating damage on the passenger side of my vehicle. I continue to move out of the busy Miami traffic and attempt to exit to the nearest exit with my car still completely out of wack… the only thing on my mind racing up and down is my 2 year old daughter’s safety (asking her consistently if she is ok). Finally, I am able to pull out on the exit of 8th street, still with limited control and the car pulling to the right tremendously and get out to assess the damage.
I get on the phone with State Farm and get a claim number. I get the car towed to a body shop close to where I live and resolve the day as an unfortunate day but thanking God that at least everyone was ok.

POST ACCIDENT:
I advise the body shop of my claim number and have them contact state farm to deal with the accident. The body shop personnel contact State Farm and are advised that the adjuster would be there the following day. Everyday almost throughout the week they got the same response from State Farm, that the adjuster would be out the next day.

NO COVERAGE:
ON APRIL FOOLS DAY (APRIL 1st 2011)… I get a call late afternoon (around 3pm) from the State Farm underwriting department cold heartedly advising me that my policy has been Rescinded (never even heard of that word in my life) and that they were not going to cover the claim nor pay for any damages on my car.
My mind goes into an endless spin and I lose my breath, asking “but why?”
1. I tell them that I had been driving for days assured I was insured…
2. I tell them that I paid, have not received refund and that they took my money…
3. I tell them that they issued me a policy number, constituting coverage…
4. I tell them that it’s been well over 9 days and I have received no calls, nor emails, nor text message, nor smoke signal regarding any intention that I was not covered…
How can this be? How can you have a system that issues policy numbers to drivers, asking them for pertinent information without instantly verifying or validating the caliber of driver you are looking for? Why does your system ask for a driver’s license number and social security number if you are not instantly going to validate the driver as you need to instantly?
State Farm:
- Are you falsely insuring driver’s on the road with no intention of paying for the claims?
- With what heart do you turn down hard working American’s days after they have been authorized by your system?
LAME EXCUSE AND ACTIONS TAKEN:
So I ask and the underwriter tells me that after reviewing my driving history they have decided to rescind… advising that the reason behind the decision was that I was guilty of a speeding ticket back in 2008… I say, IT CAN’T BE… I have no recollection of being guilty of any traffic violations; so she tells me that there is nothing else to be done, gives me no more information or detail and plainly says they are not covering my claim and to have a good day.

COMPLETELY CONCERNED after such a call, I check the Miami-Dade county clerk .gov site and I run my driver’s license through it. I look at my history and see that I have not been deemed guilty of any traffic violations and that the even the last Adjucation Withheld was in 2005(over 6 years ago).
I call back State Farm and advise this fact… they send me on a wild goose chase telling me to go and talk to the Agent to which my policy has been assigned: MATTHEW WESSLE 14653 SW 42nd Street Miami FL 33175 305-552-7003
I speak to my assigned agency pleading my case and letting them know that I filled the questionnaire to the best of my abilities and that the underwriter from State Farm told me such news. The agent says, “too bad there is nothing we can do” … “you were not truthful online”… “State Farm made a decision so that’s too bad” … I WAS APPALLED AND DISGUSTED … why are do Agencies even exist??? Are they not there to stand up for their clients and gather facts aside from gathering money for their own benefit??? If I am assigned to their agency for service, how can it be that they would not stand up and plea my case to the higher up and ups of the BIG corporation???? They left me to lye and die alone on this one…
I do research and call 800-879-2435 and speak to Rob Rose (a big honcho at State Farm) and plea my case… he says he would look into it and call me back… he calls me back and tells me to contact my Agency as they have information… I again call and speak to my Agency and they again contact underwriting which says the same thing again… The agency again tells me it’s out of their hands and that there is nothing they can do.

STATE FARM:
1. YOU INSURED ME ONLINE

2. YOU TOOK MY MONEY

3. YOU GAVE ME A POLICY NUMBER

4. YOU TOOK MY DRIVERS LICENSE ONLINE

5. YOU ENCOURAGED ME TO DRIVE AN EXPENSIVE CAR ON THE ROAD WITH MY LITTLE DAUGHTER IN IT WITH NO INTENTION OF TRULY COVERING ME

6. YOU SEND ME NO NOTIFICATION, EMAIL, PHONE CALL REGARDING ANY VERIFICATION OR DENIAL OF COVERAGE

7. YOU GIVE ME A CLAIM NUMBER THE DAY OF ACCIDENT

8. YOU LEAD THE BODY SHOP ON ADVISING YOU WERE SENDING ADJUSTER

10. YOU CALL THE “INSURED” 10 DAYS LATER AND TELL THEM AFTER AN ACCIDENT THAT YOU WILL NOT COVER THEM BECAUSE OF SOME LOOP HOLE YOU HAVE DECIDED TO FIND.
THIS IS UNETHICAL, IMMORAL, DISGUSTING, APPALLING, MEAN… (IT SHOULD BE ILLEGAL!)
YOU…

STATE FARM…

ARE A BIG BULLY!!!

(COMING FROM A PERSON THAT WILL WORK TO SAVE LIVES FOR THE REST OF HIS CAREER; "I JUST DON'T KNOW HOW YOUR COMPANY CAN ENJOY TAKING THE LIVES, WILL AND SPIRIT OF PEOPLE FOR GRANTED IN ORDER FOR YOU TO MAKE AND SAVE A FEW BUCKS..." )

1. DOES ANYONE HAVE AN ANSWER ON TO HOW I CAN RESOLVE THIS?

2. CAN ANYONE RECOMMEND A GOOD LAWYER TO TALK TO ABOUT THIS?

3. SHOULDN'T THEY BE RESPONSIBLE COVERAGE UP UNTIL THEY NOTIFIED ME ON APRIL 1ST?

Ignoring my phone calls
On Friday, January 14th 2011, I called this State Farm Location for a quote. After speaking to Joann Anderson (agent), I decided to sign up with her for insurance as she gave me a quote I liked, considering I had a past suspended license and that I am under 25. I gave her my credit card number to finalize the charges and she assured me we are all set. I had cancelled my insurance with the prior company knowing I have a new company.
On Monday when I checked my online account and saw no charge was posted, I tried to call them several times - left messages - but no answer - I assumed that due to the Martin Luther king day, they were off and the payment was delaying. I kept calling since - no answer.Today 01/19/2011 after several messages, I was able to get in touch with another agent (Ms. King) whom was able to transfer me to Ms. Anderson within a few seconds (suddenly she is available on the phone...) - When I told her who I was, she immediately knew who I am... She put me on hold, only to get back to me and tell me State Farm didn't approved me as I had in the past a suspended license.

A. Why would you let someone cancelled their insurance without having a 100% confirmation he was approved.

B. I am 7 months pregnant driving with no insurance for the past few days - without knowing - Just because Ms. Anderson didn't answer my phone calls. All she needed to do is a courtesy call stating I was not approved or at least answer my calls...

I do not recommend this company to no one, if you want to have a reliable company...Thanks god I was able to find a new company which right away insured me, and now I can finally relax...

Sneaky
While trying to file a homeowners claim in October (due to a theft), we discovered that our policy's deductable has doubled the month before. Our agent "played dumb" when I asked why it increased, and it wasn't until I called again, that he told me that everyones policy deductable had doubled and it was noted on my renewal the month before. (No other notification, just a note on the policy.)

Some agents attempted to contact their clients atleast 3 times...not my agent! He states that he called and left a message, but not so...I have an answering maching and caller ID... no call. Then I found out the day they supposadly called - funny thing, I was home, off work the entire day, because I had surgery the day before. Like I said, there was NO call.

Besides all that, in the same week surrounding the day they supposedly called, I have records of contact with them on 3 different occasions, because we were taking out another policy for liability insurance. Not once did they ever mention anything abouth the homeowners deductable.

After talking to several "higher ups" at State Farm, I got nowhere. Guess they are in their legal rights by just putting 2 lines on your policy. Shame on me for not looking it over, but I never imagined they could change that without approval.

So much for being with State Farm for over 20 years... when they decide to sneakly change something and there is no mandate on how agents notify clients, this is just poor business practice...but I'm sure losing one customer that gives them over $7000 a year is no big deal to them.

If anyone knows of anyway to go further with this, let me know.

Low bodily injury offer
I was in a car accident the morning of June 15th, 2010. I was not at fault. The other driver claimed fault and the police report faulted her. We both have State Farm insurance. This happened in Mishawaka Indiana.
I went to the ER that day with chest and neck pain. Followed up with my family doctor because the neck pain didn't go away after a few days. The chest pain ended up being from my seatbelt and left me with a huge, horrible black and purple bruise on my breast. You could actually see the material lines from the seatbelt in my bruise. I did take pictures.

I went to a Musculoskeletal Specialist and began physical therapy sessions hoping this would relieve my pain. After 5 sessions, no relief so they sent me for an MRI. The MRI showed degenerative disc disease that was aggravated by the car accident. I am a healthy 40 year old woman. I work as a florist. I am also a belly dancer. My medical history will show, I don't go to the doctor unless I'm feeling really bad. This car wreck has ruined everything. I felt great before the wreck, I could work with no pain...I could belly dance with no pain. NOW I work and I'm in constant pain...my belly dancing has had to suffer. I cannot dance the way I did before the wreck.

The accident happened on my daughters 19th birthday so that ruined all our plans. My first grandchild was born two weeks before this wreck...I didn't get to spend the time I had planned to spend with my grandchild because I was in pain and going to doctors appointments all the time.

My car was a total loss and State Farm was very fair on their offer concerning that.

I only had to take off one day from work because I only work two days a week and I scheduled my doctor appointments on my off days or on my lunch hours.
After the MRI and my diagnosis they sent me to a pain management specialist. Since the wreck I had prescribed to me, vicodin, flexeril and lyrica. The pain management specialist is pushing me to get the shots in my neck. I am afraid of this!! Right now, I'm coping with just the vicodin. I've never been a person to take pills for anything. I hate relying on pills to make me feel halfway decent. But, shots in my spine? I had THREE natural childbirths because I was afraid to get an epidural. So, now they want me to get one in my neck?
My work and dance life was great before this accident. Now, I'm hurting constantly...now with the weather getting cold, the pain is worse! I feel like I'm 80!

My medical bills totaled $3000. They were all paid by State Farm. I have no medical insurance and going to the doctor is something I don't do, I can't afford it. So, now I am forced to go and reached the medical pay limit of $3k. State Farm told me to continue to go to the doctor if I need to and their bodily injury/pain and suffering settlement would go to pay more doctor bills. OK, to me, that's like gambling. I had no clue what State Farm was going to offer me and I don't want to rack up more medical bills hoping State Farm offers me a decent, fair settlement to cover future medical bills.

Well, State Farm called me yesterday and offered me $1000 for my bodily injury/pain and suffering. Are they serious? That is ridiculous. I wanted to do this by myself and not get a lawyer but $1000???
I told the State Farm adjuster I would write out a letter with all my details and my request for a settlement amount. She was very polite and said ok. My question is...what is a fair amount to ask for?

I might add that I didn't go to a chiropractor, I went to specialists.

State Farm did not pay for the repairs of my stolen car
I woke up one morning in the fall of 2009 to drive to class (was in college at the time) and after a few surreal minutes of walking around trying to discover where my car was, I realized it was most likely stolen. Three weeks prior to this, my car was broken into, window smashed, and my GPS was stolen. This time, I had hid my values and any traces of my values inside my apartment. Well anyways, I went into the police station to put the issue on file, got a ride to class, and soon after got the call from the cops saying that my car was indeed stolen and that they found it. I was later picked up that same day by the police and was driven to a graveyard where my car was found. When I got in it to drive it home, I instantly noticed that the transmission was damaged. My 5th gear and reverse did not work at all (I was no longer able to switch into those gears (It went from working very smoothly to not working at all (standard transmission). Now I had owned this vehicle for 5+ years prior to it being stolen and never had ANY problem with switching gears. I bring my car into a transmission shop to get it evaluated. So now its time for me to call the claim into State Farm, my car insurer, (yes I had collateral coverage), and have a State Farm rep come to inspect my car. Here's the deal. If they (State Farm) do not see any proof that my vehicle was recently damaged (from the crook), then they don't see any reason to cover my repair bill. There was no proof of my car being broken into or hot wired. Well, it was obviously wired since my window was not smashed. There was also no proof that I didn't leave my car unlocked before it was stolen. Listen, at the time of this happening I lived in an EXTREMELY bad area (near where I went to school). I have NEVER left my car unlocked. However, how could I prove that I did or did not lock my car either way? That is insane. So 1: they (the car shop and the State Farm rep) could not see any evidence that my car was abruptly damaged, but only that it was damaged. And 2: I could not prove that my car was actually stolen and I cannot prove that I had locked my car. This is what they are telling me at State Farm!!! So from their perspective, they can imagine that I just get a kick out of damaging my car and leaving it in a graveyard during a stressful finals week. That I love having to bother someone to come out of their way to pick me up to go to class because my car is gone. That I love to ruin a perfectly good car. This news was very painful for me to deal with. I felt very hurt that they were not taking care of me when I pay good money in case this sort of thing happens. State Farm essentially stole from me. Anyways, State Farm did not cover any of my very expensive bill to fix my transmission...Like a good neighbor State Farm is there? If state farm was my neighbor id move out.

Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated..
