State Farm Reviews

Abandonment
Have you recently been dumped by State Farm for no good reason on your home owner's insurance? Did the excuse they give you seem bogus? Did you prove to them it WAS a bogus reason so they just came up with another lie to justify their unfounded action? Was the reason such that you knew you couldn't fight it but you KNOW they were making it up? Do you wish they'd have to answer for actions like that? Well, Friends, listen to my story for State Farm just made the biggest mistake they could when they picked on my family to do what I just described above.

First, they wrote us that we were not in a fire coverage area and also emergency vehicles would not use our so-called substandard access so they cancelled our home owner's insurance upon renewal. "How interesting, " my husband replied, "for I run the Borough's GIS system and part of my job is tracking and mapping the fire coverage zones. I also work with all the fire chiefs for all the fire departments getting them my maps and analyzing data to insure the safety of our citizens." "We ARE in a clearly marked fire coverage zone and I happen to have a letter here from the local fire chief stating our property access is fine for his big, huge fire engine."

So State Farm tells him, "Actually it's really because you don't have two points of access in and out of your street." Now note, our property's drive is bigger than a cul-de-sac turn around. My husband says, "Ok, put that in writing." They say, "No."

Here's where sweet satisfaction comes and proves Karma's a b*tch. Probably 60-70% of the properties in the Borough (roughly the size of Wisconsin) do not have two points of access in and out of streets. So that is a SERIOUS situation for many citizens in the Borough. Emergency services and Planning will have to address this news from State Farm that they do not cover those properties.

Of course, then the State will have to get in on the act for state wide it's really an issue (as it would be for most states). This will likely blow up into a HUGE press explosion as word gets out State Farm refuses to insure these folks. Of course, State Farm wouldn't lie so my husband HAS to take their word for it. It is his job to keep departments informed on the status of these types of things for it impacts the citizenry and it's the job of government to do something about it.

So there is now all sorts of meetings being set up by all the departments to address this new concern that State Farm will be dumping literally thousands upon thousands of home owners of their insurance.

SEE what happens when you lie to your customers? What are you going to do now State Farm? Lie some more? Be careful, my husband has no choice but to do his job. YOU put him in that position. It's the emergency departments that are forcing him to address it. THEY are the ones you involved, though you didn't know it, and THEY were the ones that heard your answer to my husband about two points of access.

Sure, we'll have to find another carrier. But it is very satisfying seeing a company's outright lies bite them in the butt from a bureaucracy even larger than them. I wonder how they'll lie to the Borough, State and public. Oh, let's hope they say they didn't tell my husband that, then they'll find themselves guilty of fraud because hubby dear made sure it was documented, unbeknownst to State Farm.

Best advice - NEVER insure with State Farm. After 26+ years of them taking our money they hung us out to dry. But it'll be much worse for them than for us when this goes public. Journalists, sharpen those pencils!

Negligence
State Farm didn't attempt to protect itself or me, a longtime customer.
It issued me a binder for homeowner's insurance without running a Loss History Report(CLUE Report). State Farm contacted me AFTER my settlement to advise that my policy was in limbo. The previous owner had filed three claims for massive water damages, but State Farm couldn't bother to tell me prior to the purchase. By law, the policy had to remain in place, but when it expires, SF will likely terminate me. I will have to practically give my home away if ever anyone would consider buying it. Several other companies have either rejected me for coverage or will not offer water coverage. I live in fear of yet another incident of water damage. As it turns out, my neighborhood is rife with incidents of indoor flooding. Some homeowners have endured more than one incident. The hits just keep on coming. I can't find an attorney to take my case. I suppose they know that SF has more money and will prevail in court. Moreover, the selling Realtor knew about the damages, but never said a word. So, I'm screwed in Maryland.

Employment hiring test
I went to an interview at a very nice well known State Farm Insurance Agent and did great at the interview. The agent then had to give me a personality and employment exam which did have some math as well. It was maybe about 100 questions that took an hour with multiple choice answers. I left out feeling that I did pretty well. I had to wait to get the results so the agent called me the next day and told me I failed. I was qualified for the job, had the licensing, have my own real estate company with 16 years sales experience. I also have had other jobs such as in the banking, secretarial and other customer service type jobs. I failed the customer service part and I am totally blown away. Most of my real estate transactions are representing both parties buyer and seller and negotiation is key in my job. I am polite and can difuse almost any situation and as far as personality goes, I can strike up a conversation with anybody. I got personality and I must do a good job for my clients because they keep on referring business to me. Now, I was reading over some of the complaints that people have about the customer service that State Farm has. Well now we know, they look for folks that are the opposite of giving good customer service and the folks they hire must not have personality either. You can ask anybody that knows me, I've got what it takes. So, state farm thanks for your test that proves that your looking for idiots with no personality and customer service experience. And your a good neighbor, no neighbor I want. You missed out on getting a good hardworker that loves people and serving them with their best interest in mind. I will get on with a better company. Thanks for wasting my time.

inadequate coverage
I have been w/ state farm since 1997 and have insured 5 cars and just 2 yrs ago my modular home. Fearing the unknown, I kept full coverage on my vehicles after paying off note. I had one accident ( damage to my property only) and an accident involving a deer. I was stranded over 200 miles from home recently and to my horror find out that what I had been paying for all theses yrs was not worth a penny.

My towing coverage / roadside assistance would not get my car back home. it only covered towing to the nearest repair shop- remember I am 200 miles from home at the mercy of strangers-- Wonderful strangers they were-- more helpful than State Farm was. The damage to my car was internal--engine. It take me 6 days on my own to get my car back to Georgia. Those helpful strangers assisted me in getting a rental car--not state farm. Later was told, my insurance would not pay for the rental -- which is part of my coverage, also. My insurance would cover the rental car.

The towing cost over 200 miles from Fla back to Ga was $500.00-- State farm only would pay/paid a $100.00 and I am hoping it reimburses me back for the first towing to the repair shop of $ 60.00. Warning to others State farmers-- question your agent on What if this happen what will my insurance coverage. I trusted them. I thought I had what I needed in case of any emergency. My neighbor told me I had the best insurance it was- state farm-- yeah, until you need them. I laughed at their recent commercial about the 40 million people they insure-- if those 40 million only knew.

I called the 1800 # the day I saw the commercial and the CSRep did not seem very surprised when I told him of my ordeal. There was no offer of help! He said state farm should pay the towing. I wonder if my home catches on fire what they will tell me -- my fire coverage doesn't cover a fire! State Farm is A Joke when one needs them. As long as the premiums are paid the insurer is okay.I never received a call from my loyal agent offering any additional assistance in the matter. Oh Yeah. just the renewal bill by mail from the main

Dragging out payment FOREVER & losing title
My Mom's jeep was struck from the side by a woman who was also insured by State Farm. It took State Farm over ONE YEAR to pay the claim, which was insufficient to repair her Jeep which had full coverage insurance at the time. To make matters worse, they claimed to the DMV, that the vehicle was totaled in the accident and that they took possesion of the vehicle and destroyed it, so once we did fix it, it was nearly impossible to re-register. It took nearly another SIX more months of their bureaucratic nonsense, in order to get the title back on a car that my Mom owned outright, I actually got angry enough to insinuate to the State Farm adjuster, that if she didn't take care of the mistake, the car would be stolen and driven through the side city hall, and she could have the privilege of explaining how a car they allegedly took posseion of and destroyed, ended up there. After that, I had a supplimental check and a new free-and-clear title 3-days later sent by certified mail. State Farm was certainly no neighbor I'd ever want!

NOT A GOOD NEIGHBOR
INSURED POLICY HOLDERS BAIL OUT NOW! Insured with State Farm for over 30 years Auto, Home, RV, Boat and cycle in Michigan and Florida. July 2003 had MVA while in MI, broadsided, 2 serious personal injuries, vehicle totaled. Uninsured 18 year old illegal alien ran red light at 11:00 PM with no lights on fled the scene was aprehended, 3.6 alcahol, no drivers Lic and no Insurance. Charged with 5 felonies bonded out on $1, 000 cash bond never to be seen again. (MI COURTS) Had Florida insurance in effect with $10, 000 maximum medical payments. 1. S.F. lowballed vehicle pay off. 2. refused medical payment above $10, 000 citing Fl. policy. (MI no-fault statutes limit out of state drivers to $500, 000 each). 3. S.F shifted claim to MI. 4. S.F. Refused to pay $25, 000 Uninsured Motorist Claim (had to sue). Spouse had documented brain injury, lost ability to swallow required feeding tube, lost ability to speak and unable to walk 3 years after MVA. 4.S.F. prostituted Drs. to contrive Parkinsons Desease along with ALS to rule out any connection to the MVA. by giving inperson IME without the subject being there. Interesting the Dept. of Lic. & Reg. believes this is an acceptable practice (LYING) 5. S.F. refused to pay death benefits even after autopsy indicated no Parkinson, and ALS or any other desease. The spouse died of deep leg trombosis as the result of inactivity due to the conditions caused by thr MVA. 5. S.F contended that we were in violaton of MI no fault law because we were in MI more than 30 days and that we were required to purchase MI insurance. This is contrary to the opinion of the MI Ins. Com. that states I had more than the basic insurance required under my FL policy. An agreement was ordered signed by the court that was binding on both parties in October 2006.
future benefits were not waived. 6. S.F. has not paid a dime still claiming we were in violation of the MI no fault act, regardless of the agreement S.F.signed. My attorney James Scieszka refused to defend this claim stating this was a different matter? S.F got to him also, they will buy every one the courts alow them to do so

invalid car insurance
Two issues: First, I have paid my premiums on time for decades, but currently have no valid vehicle insurance despite remaining up to date on my payments. Second, State Farm agent violated my privacy which had the potential to put my life in danger. In 2008, the authorities recommended that I move and enter the state's Address Confidentiality Program (ACP) after I was the victim of extreme domestic violence once. I did that. But since my legal address is the State Attorney's office in my state capital and far from my "garaged address, " my insurance is invalid. State Farm told me if I would tell them my real address, they would keep it private. But I was too concerned that my attacker would hack in or bribe someone for the information. It was really much worse than that. One day, a friend called the State Farm agent, said she was me and asked for the current address on file. It was given by the agent instantly without questioning the identity of the caller which could have resulted in my death had the caller been my attacker. Then State Farm offered to make my address their address, but that is in violation of the state statute (law) and also their address is close to where I work. Therefore, my attacker could stake out the two potential employers close by and find me easily. Not an option. So, since State Farm cannot be trusted, I cannot let them know my physical address. They must only know my legal address (by Florida law) at the State Attorney's address for the ACP. State Farm refuses to give me written backup of their verbal claims that they will cover any claims I may have since I am a participant in the state's ACP. So, I am current with my insurance payments, by law; but I have no valid car insurance since I do not want to put my life at risk by disclosing my physical address to them and since "misrepresenting a garaged address" is a felony in this state and invalidates insurance. What to do?

Ripped off
In 2006 I went and bought the car I always wanted a Tahoe. Ya not some peoples dream choice but I always loved them. I had my car for about 2 moths before it was stolen out of my driveway. They broke into a window and found my spare key I had still sitting inside my center console! So they took the car. I did all I was suppose to do, called the police did a report and called my insurance State Farm who I have had for over 6 years at the time! A month later my car was found trashed, stripped, totaled!!! I took pictures and relished it to my insurance. Long story short, they took so long my gap insurance collapsed then they found some BS reason to deny my clam!!! Can I go after them and win YES, but every attorney I have talked to said it would cost my more then what my car is worth to fight them cause they are known for this BS!! Its not just auto, its any and all!!! When you do win they pay just what the auto is worth but then you still are left with paying for attorney fees!!! DON’T GET STATE FARM IT’S A WAIST OF MONEY!!! This needs to get out!!! I was a single mom who has worked hard my life to get what I have and have always been honest thanks to State farm my credit is shot and I am not going to court over the loan company that held my note to my Tahoe they want the full $32K plus there attorney cost. I was told I will loose cause it is between me and then and the insurance didn’t sign a note with them. It sucks thanks to State farm!!! Its now almost the end of 2009 and this is still going on in my life thanks to, “State Farm!!!”
