Last year, I took my wife, kids & in-laws to Grand West. We had a great time, but we unfortunately couldn't say the same about the food at Steers. I got a luke-warm burger that was obviously heated up from the day before (possibly even the week before!). I asked the rest of the people in our group, and they all agreed that their food was equally as bad. I politely told the manager that my burger tasted old (the beef patty only), and she kindly agreed to give me another one for free. I was let down again when I tasted that the new burger was another 're-heated burger from last week', just warmed up for longer. I threw the half-eaten burger in the bin and vowed not to eat there again. A few months passed and then a couple of months ago, my colleague offered me half of his Wacky Wednesday burger for lunch (bought from the Pinelands branch). It was awesome! My faith in Steers quality had been restored once again! However, it was short-lived when this evening, my wife bought Steers for our family for supper (from the Parklands branch), and once again, the food was dry, tasteless and a complete let-down.

In the future, I will try my best to avoid the Steers outlets.

On the 14th of august 2009 I made a purchase from Steers Brackenfell, the amount is was supposed to be charged was 51.90 which I paid using a credit card but when I checked my statment i saw that not only had the amount of 51.90 been deducted but a further amount of 99.95 I only signed the slip for the correct amount and no slip was presented to me for the 99.95. I reported this to the manger at the store and she requested that I send an email of my bank statment to them showing this double charge which i did I have followed up twice on this and to date have not been remibursed. This is fraud and is not acceptable, I would like head office to comment on this.

Referring to the Steers branch in Crossings Centre, Nelspruit.

Firstly, The spare ribs & chips they served gave me a serious case of running stomach two hours after I consumed it, which shows that their hygiene is not up to standard, and their cooking oil is old.
Secondly, they should train their pathetic black staff members properly, to serve STEAK KNIVES with spare ribs, and not blunt kitchen knives.
Thirdly, as they are categorized as a restaurant, and they make 100% profit on their cool drinks, the least they could do is to serve it in a glass with ice. They are the only Restaurant franchise in SA who refuse to do it.
Lastly, they should please get some proper white supervision in all their branches, because the black staff members are clearly incompetent.

To whom it may concern - if it concerns anyone at all

There is a Steers close to the Pietermaritzburg Off Ramp in a Total Garage - get this - The Pietermaritzburg offramp - about 2-3 k's down to the right - Total garage on both sides ---- shitty Steers to the left.

Time: 10h00 Saturday Morning December 1 2007

Upon arrival I was told that I would be attended to shortly - another customer already waiting. The waitress / manageress then calmly continued to wrap another 4 sets of cutlery with a paper napkin before asking us for our orders. She really gave the impression that she did not want to be there at all.

We then proceeded to the toilets - me to a dark men’s toilet with the lights out of order - and my wife to a washroom full of flies.

When I reentered the restaurant I started looking for a clean table. I could not find one - I eventually found the chef and asked him for a cloth. He came and wiped a table down for us.

Whilst waiting for the food I noticed that the place has not been swept or cleaned either. Some flies were enjoying the dirty tables.

The Cutlery arrived first - all neatly wrapped. There was some green gunk stuck to the inside of my fork. The waitress looked interestingly at me while I proceeded to try and clean it with the napkin dipped in Fanta Orange. Ended up eating the burger with my hand.

Our burgers arrived and being hungry - we started eating. I then realized that there were no condiments. I went to the counter and found the two big dispensers to be empty and their nozzles filthy. The mayo container manage to gurgle up a spurt on my arm. The head seemed to be loose.

The waitress then brought us some more empty and dirty condiment bottles. At least the tomato sauce had some in.

I then realized that my Schalk Burger meal looked nothing like the picture. On closer inspection I realized that the burger patties were obviously from last night. Al flat and cold. Tasting of old barbecue fat. Thinking back I now realized that the grill had not been fired up yet.

We ate what we could. My wife “the coffee lover” did not even drink half her coffee. Said it tasted like dish water.

We left without saying a word. Because by now they were getting busy.

Maybe I should have said something. Maybe I'm the only one with a runny stomach this morning. May you would like to feature a video of me running to the toilet on the home page of this website.

Please don't offer me any free food at Steers since you won’t be seeing me for a long time. Please don’t tell me to excuse this because it was early in the morning.
