I am Ronald Hudson, my wife Carolyn and I received a mailer from Sterling Mutual sometime in February of 2010 offering to get us a mortgage reduction if we were upside down on our current mortgage, which we were. We got an appointment and went to see them. On 3/2/2010 we gave them a check for $6000.00 and were told that if they were successful our mortgage would be reduced from approximately $240K down to approximately $135K based on the current value of our house. We were also told that if they were not able to get the reduction then we would forfeit $1800.00 of the $6000.00 which they would keep for their expenses and the remaining $4200.00 would be returned to us. they dragged it along for about 10 months telling us they were working on it. Then in January of 2011 we received a letter from Sterling Mutual, signed by Brian Cutright, explaining that they were unable to obtain the mortgage reduction. Included in the letter was a check for $2332.30 . He explained that they did not not have the full amount due us in their account right now but that he was going to be putting additional funds from his own money into the company and that we could expect a check "before the first of April, 2011. They owe us $1867.70
It's now April 18. 2011 and we have not received a check, but more importantly I have called their phone number and get a message stating the mailbox is full, each time I leave a callback number but have not received a call. I also tried emailing Jennifer O'Leary at [email protected] but that was returned as "Undeliverable".
