Thieves, Incomplete Work
There were a lot of good reviews about Stevens Moving and Storage. It is definitely by company itself. We had a very bad experience with them. Going by reviews we opted them. Other assumption was price (which is high) but we thought it is relative to service and insurance coverage.

Timeliness : We had to shift within same apartment but to a different unit. Shifting appointment was at 2:00 PM and they didn't turn up till 6:20 PM. There was no response to calls we made.

Bargaining after reaching place: They were 3 of them, though we had requested for just 2 of them (ours was a 1BHK). The key person was very rude and was trying to convince us that we need to pay for all three of them, otherwise it will take atleast 4 hours to complete the shifting. Some how we didn't agree to it and said we will only pay the amount that we got in quote from company. Infact only 2 of them were doing real moving and key person was just bargaining with us till the end. When half of the work was done, he started asking for payment. My husband even paid the money that owed them.

Theft : Once the payment is done, they just didn't even care of complete the work. I was waiting in old unit and my husband was waiting in new unit, and in the mean time they had already left even without informing us. Only 3/4th of shifting was complete for which they took only 1 hour and we paid them for 3 hours work. After reaching to our new unit, I noticed that my office bag was lying open. I had closed that bag and kept in closet because I had all my jewelry in that bag. My wallet was open and all money that I had (~50$) was missing. From my jewelry box 3 finger rings and 2 ear-rings were missing. I personally had kept those jewelry in the box before we started moving. Jewelry were worth ~800$.

Incomplete work: Their quote included all disassembling, packing, unpacking, assembling. They just threw things here and there in our new unit. The new TV stand edges were all chipped off. The TV stand screws were all missing which we didn't get even today. This movement was a complete mess. Till 11 PM, me and hubby had to shift the pending items.
No response for claims: When we called for claims, they were not responding for anything. No response to emails.

Moral : Never go by price and reviews.

Liars and thieves!
1. They estimated the move would cost us around $700 and guaranteed it would cost no more than $1000. The total was $1800 at the end.
2. They told us twice that a cashiers check would suffice as cash because they gave a 7% discount when you paid with cash. On the day of the move they told us otherwise and would not honor this.
3. It took them 4 1/2 hours to drive from Sacramento to Half Moon Bay and we were paying by the hour. (It DOES NOT take that long.)
4. They told us it would be a 3 person job. Two of the guys were great. The third guy acted like he was taking a stroll on the beach when walking to and from my apartment, all the while carrying the lightest item he could find. (I carried more, and heavier items to the truck than he did.)
5. Without prior notice, he made me pay for packing materials for certain items of furniture and told me he would not move them unless he "packed" them. (This would have been okay if it were factored into the moving price when I told them EXACTLY what items I was moving.)

These people are thieves and I would definitely NOT recommend them to anyone looking to move.

Please note that a reverse phone number search reveals this company is actually C H S Transportation Inc., located at 422 Queens Ln, in San Jose, CA 95112. The address on the quote stated above. Also, their domain name is registered to "we are moving relocations", also on Queens in San Jose. Sean at Stevens provided me a written bid of $1195.75 if I pay cash, which gave me 5% discount from actual quote of $1258.75, a $63 discount.

When the 4 arrived, the lead mover sat me down and had me sign some paperwork, which they never gave me a copy of, and told me that my move would require more man-hours to load and off-load that the quote had indicated, which was 5 hours. Issac said it would require about 8 hours more time to complete the job than the quote stated. According to the quote they charge $95 per hour for 4 men. Although I was reluctant~ I agreed to pay the extra $800.00 for the man-hours. After the trunk was half loaded with my stuff, Isaac told me the move would be a total of $4200, cash only! Then he told me everything would not fit in the truck and they would have to send another one the next day.

When they arrived at my new home, they told me they wanted $4200 in cash only to off-load the truck. I told Issac I would pay him $3000.00 in cash and the balance when they arrived with the 2nd load. He insisted he collect the whole amount. I negotiated the $1200 on the credit card, but he said he wanted the cash the next day when the 2nd load arrived and he would give me back the credit card slip. When the 2nd load arrvied, I told the new crew that I decided to keep the $1200 on my credit card. After more than one hour of waiting for someone in their office to arrive and authorize my credit card, they off-loaded my 2nd load. About half an hour after they started off-loading the truck, their manager Ron called my cell phone and physically threatened me, saying I was going to "pay one way or another", and he was now going to charge me for that 2nd load. He reminded me again, of how I was going to pay!

I am disputing the $1200 charged on my credit card, reporting these people to the police, DA's office, CPUC, and BBB. This was extortion, and I am sure, practiced regulary by this group of criminals.

finally honest movers
This was the best move I have ever had because they made it seem easy. Moving is not easy, I have used movers about ten times, and there are always moments of anxiety. Not so with Stevens moving. They made the whole experience seem like a walk in the park.

On the phone and giving a quote, Sean was uncommonly patient, respectful, organized and low pressure.He gave me the time to collect my scattered thoughts and figure out what I really needed. I moved three times with movers who were "five-stars" on-line, and stevens moving put me most at ease.

The movers were fantastic. Punctual, respectful, fast as hell. They didn't grunt and groan like most movers, they cheerfully did stuff they hadn't expected to do (removed a light fixture so my couch could fit out the old door, figured out how to disassemble/reassemble my Ikea furniture, did a long haul at the new house when the truck didn't fit down my driveway). They were amazingly mellow about having to double-park their truck, and didn't run roughshod over my apartment.

Most movers won't do the stuff you ask them to do, complaining all the way. I personally find it very uncomfortable to have to boss around big, burly men who are resentfully doing their job. Not so with stevens moving's Callum, Paul and Nico. They proactively did things, and never made it seem hard. Usually I tip movers because I feel bad after they have appeared to struggle all day. With stevens, I gave the boys great tips because they made it seem so easy.

The price here is on the lower side, but in the end it cost less than others had quoted due to their astounding speed. When you also factor in the "no stress" factor, these guys are a bargain!

The reason i posted here and i will probably do the same in a couple of other sites, is the fact that i read some negative reviews about this company after they moved me and i then called their manager to ask how it is even possible, he said that their competitors post fake reviews on line to get more business this way, he said it's a "zoo" out there, how sad is that? i feel sorry for those companies, stevens just do it better.
