Well I sure you all have heard about Contractors being scammers? Here is one for the books.
I hired a fast talking, real piece of work, Sean to fix a lot of mistakes in my house left from another contractor.
I asked to see his work and it was good enough, as I really didn't have much time before my lease at the house I was in was up. So I hire him to address clear floor plans stamped by the city of Toronto, I asked him if he can read and he said yes. I handed him a set of plans, And away he went. After 3 weeks and $3000 later I was no further ahead then day 4, He complained about being alone, I hired more guys, He wanted supplies I got it for him. If you want to babysit your contractor Sean is the one you want, lots of whining and playing, no working. I have him on video playing with a remote control car, and taking 2 hour breaks talking on the phone. So all in all. Great guy if you want to hang and shoot the shit. But I hired a contractor.
He created alot of mistakes that need to be corrected like the plumbing, the siding, the exterior sheating, He didn't even nail it to the studs. I realized when I stopped in to check out the progress. So more time I didnt have and more materials, Remember the target date? I was even further away from moving in. He sent me an email and wanted his last payment. Which I no problem paying. After the cost of correcting his mistakes, I will be pay him what is left. I think that is fair. But instead he goes and puts a lien against my house. The term by hook or by crook ring a bell?
In close, be careful contractors will promise you the world, and deliver a pizza.
