Used a check to pay for groceries on Friday, Sept. 4, 2009 and my check was declined by Telecheck.
The acting Mgr. called them at my insistence and was told that Check #154 for $ 32.00 had not been paid by me and that they were still trying to collect on it from July 1, 2009. I did not even have a check no. 154 as my checks were in the 5000 numbers and they didn't care. They still declined my check. I was told to go home and call them again. I did and was asked it I knew a person by the name of
xxxxx xxxxx whose license number was, , , , , , , which was actually their social security number and I told them I never heard of them. I was then told that this person's license number was inadvertently connected to my account. I was then told that this person was only an accounts clerk and that I would have to call another number to have the information corrected. I did this and was asked for my license number, my bank account number and my bank's routing number and if I did not give this information to them they could not correct the problem. I was at their mercy. I then asked where was I calling and was told the "Phillipines". Great, now my information is in the Phillipines. I called my bank and they told me that they were not concerned with the first number but the fact that I had to call a second number was what concerned them. I am now faced with having to cancel out my checking account and getting a new one as I am afraid of Identity Fraud. As a consumer I feel we should have some rights with a company such as Telecheck. Also, the Stop & Shop Company should have some responsibility to the consumer as they have hired this company and thus they are a "sub-contractor for Stop & Shop. Can you imagine not even I am sorry for this error...
