Fake School
I have been a student with Strayer University for 1 1/2 years and so far I have been doing fine. I guess it's the campus that you attend classes at. I began Strayer from Morrow, Ga and stayed there for 2 quarters. When I was enrolled the admissions counselor was so helpful and I can honestly say that I never had a problem with them. However, I moved back to my home state which is Florida and transfered to their Jacksonville campus. The employees there were also friendly, however they have made a few mistakes with my financial aid. I can honestly say that this did not alter nor hinder my education. I did have a situation where I was withdrawn from a class for not attending a class in which I was so. It was corrected and I did not receive my refund until the last week of class. I don't go to school for a refund check so as long as they was able to tell my my classes were paid for and the check will come I am happy. What I'm trying to say is it all depends on your home campus. Some of them is on point and some of them need to go back to the locker room.

Financial Aid
I really should of read the 'million' bad reviews before i actually registered at this school. I didn'! and now im like the many others who regret my decision. The admission people are friendly and welcoming at first, but as soon as they get you registered the problems and issues arise. They register you for classes and you find you cant drop them unless you chase about all day with emails and phone calls hoping that one person will listen and drop the class for you. The most frustrating is the financial aid office. Again friendly prior to registration but they never reply to any emails or phone calls. I have sent 27 emails and 13 phone calls all of which have gone unanswered. I am in class but have no idea on the status of my financial aid that has been left on pending for the last month or so. I have no idea when my disbursements will be and now have to apply for private loans to cover my living expenses that the FA was meant to cover. I read on some reviews that some students don't get their aid until well in the semester some even after!! .. i just want them to respond to the communications they receive, i don't think that is too much to ask. Stay clear of this 'school' (i use the term school loosely) they are incompetent and will only give you a degree in 'Stress' maybe even fraudulent in their FA practice.

Incompetent teachers/Financial Aide Dept.
I signed up with Strayer originally just to take a single Unix course. Because of the cost of the classes I had to sign up for financial aide, which required I sign up for at least one more course. I could not have been more clear with the women in the financial aide dept. My words verbatum, "I'm not sure what I'm doing, all I know is that I can not afford ANY type of loan, period (yes, I spoke the word period)." I continued, "I had signed up with the Pell grant in the past, if I that won't cover most of the expenses then I will have to go back to Germanna" (a community college with MUCH better, and way more professionally trained, instructors).
For half the semester I couldn't access my account with them because of a "new system glitch." Fast forward to the middle of the semester and I have a loan from Fannie Mae and an extra class I didn't need to take. After a recording a lengthy discussion, that was mostly one-sided after the other party shut her mouth when I pulled out the tape recorder, it was agreed that the loan would be cancelled and I only had to pay for the single Unix course. I was spared the expense of the English class, which was good because they incorrectly placed me in a non-credit course. Since I couldn't get to my account from the "glitch" I never realized I was in the wrong class.
The Unix class was a totally different train wreck. Every time the teacher explained something I constantly shook my head. I spent most of the time correcting his teaching and scripting errors with other class mates. On one occasion he couldn't figure out how to show a student the right way to write a simple linux script. When I showed him mine with relational paths instead of absolute paths (a perfectly acceptable, and cleaner way to write code) he got confused and said my way "shouldn't work". Yet mine called the data properly I needed and his FAILED MISERABLY.
Finally, even after telling them via phone and e-mail to take me off their contact lists, and after being assured that my contact information would be removed from their databases permanently, they continue to force me to relive those events time and time again by explaining (once again) why I want to be taken off their call list. I must receive a call at least once a month and multiple times a month during enrollment.
Please steer clear of this school, they will never let you go.

Collections
I took a class and for some reason the financial aid never went through. They never contacted me to tell me this and all of a sudden I get an email saying my account is past due and I need to pay or get sent to collections.
I immediately call and explain that I am signing up for the fall semester at the nearby campus (I had since moved) and could we forward that balance to that campus and let me pay both semesters at once? I was told no, but that when I get the financial aid for the new semester, I would have plenty left over and could then use that to pay my bill for the first semester. I asked if I would get sent to collections, since this was going to take awhile.
SHE TOLD ME NO. She said the letters were going out to scare students into paying their bills but that they weren't really sending any one into collections.
Fast forward: I'm now in collections. Called the campus, they said oh well, we don't know who you talked to. You're already in collections, can I help you with anything else?
THANK YOU FOR PUTTING A HORRIBLE MARK ON MY CREDIT REPORT BY LYING TO ME. I will not EVER be returning to your campus...

Liars and thieves
Strayer University is the biggest bunch of crap I have ever seen in my life!!! I withdrew the first week I was there, and was told all I owed was for my books. I am now recieving a bill of over $900 claiming I must pay 25% of tuition. This place was the biggest fly by night piece of crap I have ever stepped foot in, and I knew it the minute I started. DO NOT GO TO STRAYER!!! They are liars, and the professors don't even hold degrees themselves. Maybe they got their degree fom Strayer! LOl

Refund Check hard to get
So far, this is my 4th semester and I am doing it online and it has been doing good. I have all A's and B's and learning a lot. There will be professors that are stupid and don't answer back and just tell you to check syllabus. So of course, I'd rather talk with fellow classmates, etc. The admissions officer sounds so sweet that I'd like to go on their campus and fuck her all day and night. I do agree it is pretty expensive, it came down to University of Phoenix and Strayer. After hearing all this, it makes me just not go to school at all. It sounds like going to college is useless. The only complaint I truly have is their business office, they lag on refund checks and you will not get it for a long time so I of course I call the Federal Grants area, and they said it sometimes take long because of how many students that are admitted. The only problem will be dealing with the Business Office and the place you got the Financial Aid from.

Fruad and Mismanagement of funds
Update on previous complaint by Trina
Here it is July 5th and I still haven't rec the additional funds this university owes me from the previous semester that started back in April 2010 and ended June 28, 2010. I've spend most of my time emailing the administrative officals of the school both at the campus listed above and that in VA. I was contacted by Cliff Emerson from the VA fiancial aid office on friday of last week, "he informed me that the funds were in fact put into my account." Well of course that wasn't the case. Its not showing up at all. Which leads me to believe that he lied just like the rest of the Strayer Staff I've dealt with over the past months. Will I ever see the funds? Who knows. What I do know is this is my last term with Strayer don't need the added stress returning back to school to complete a degree and being a mother is enough stress for me. If you are considering Strayer please do your homework. Don't just listen to the idiots in their offices because they are going to make it seem like Strayer is a God sent, when in reality they are sent from Hell. At least that's what my exper has been with them especially the last two terms. At first it seems like they are professional despite the lack of returned calls or someone being avail to talk to you via telephone. I've learned to go up to the office in person to get matters resolved. The last time I went was last week and the staff was anything but nice how about nasty b/c they all know my issues with the school b/c i've dealt with them all. If you are business minded person, and don't like games, lies, or unprofessional ethnical issues with your fianciail aid then go to a real university. I'm returning back to the University of Alabama in Huntsville where I should have stayed in the first place. You live and learn. Don't make the same mistake!!!

MJ - Not to be ignored
June 29, 2010
Blown off and ignored, looking for lawyer!
I was a Student who moved (alone) from my hometown to Charlotte, NC to attend school in Jan. 2008. In order to support myself (apartment, school, bills, car...) I took on a steady job in March. In Sept. 2008, the branch was working for was laid off. Not having a job, I had to withdraw from my university and move back home. Before I left Charlotte, I made arrangements to take a job overseas in South Korea. Knowing I was leaving, I quickly made the decision to continue my education online through Strayer University. I enrolled and registered for classes approx. Oct 2008. During the process I agreed to a payment plan for the tuition that my financial aid did not cover.
I left for South Korea December 2008. While in Korea, I had to order textbooks. In order to receive those textbooks, I had to inform Strayer University of my South Korean address.
In Jan. 19th, 2009, the beginning of the term, I went to a rural area of the Philippines. While in the Philippines, I was unable to log into class (for an unknown reason) and unable to contact technical support due to no phone access. For these same reasons, I was also unable to contact two of my three instructors.
1/24: I returned to South Korea. I was then able to contact one of my instructors and asked if she could provide me with contact information for my other instructors
1/25: I was able to log in and contract my communications instructor (communications instructor = CI). I asked for permission to make-up missing assignments
1/29: I Was told by CI, I could make up the assignments by doing essays
2/1: In order to do the essays for CI’s class, the book was required, which had not yet arrived. I emailed my CI and asked if she recommended that I drop the class, due to not being able to complete the past assignments.
2/1: CI would not give an opinion (to drop class or not).
2/5: My textbooks arrived
2/5: After informing CI or my textbook arrival, she informed me that I could no longer make-up the assignments
2/18: I contacted the campus dean (campus dead = RR) about the situation and was informed that the situation must be directed to the online dean. I was then told by RR that the online dean is also CI.
2/20: I emailed my campus advisor, explained the complications with CI and asked for options.
At some point, I called the school, still looking for answers, help, suggestions... something! During this phone call, I again, explained the situation and was told to complete the midterm for CI’s class then contact RR. After doing so, I received an email on 2/24 regarding my midterm grade. I completed the midterm with an A. I was confused when receiving an “unsatisfactory grade” email.
2/25: I emailed RR about the “unsatisfactory grade” email and still seeking a resolution.
2/26: My email to RR was forwarded from around to other people within the campus
3/5: I received an emailed from MT (unknown position) MT then states that I needed to contact CI (this never ending cycle...) At this point, I clearly see that I will not be getting a resolution regarding this class. I was taking 3 classes and had to make 3 payments for classes. I paid, on schedule, 1 of the 3 payments for classes. I felt until Strayer resolved this issue, it would be in my best interest to not continue payments. I continued and completed classes for that term. Once classes ended, I wanted the fee for CI’s class to be removed from my account, as I was not given a fair chance to successfully complete the class. Once this was resolved, I would make the final payment to Strayer.
Dec. 2009, I returned to my hometown to the USA.
Jan-Mar 2010, I travelled to Charlotte to discuss the removing of fees from CI’s class and to pay my last payment. Once I arrived, I was notified that my previous campus advisor (who already knew about the situation) was no longer there. I was then reassigned to another advisor “NM” I explained the situation to NM, who left her office to get some information. Once she returned, she informed me I had an extremely inflated balance on my account. Shocked, I had her explain these charges. I was then told that my financial aid from 2009 was never applied to my account! “Something” was supposedly missing from my financial aid information that caused it to be rejected. Confused and infuriated, I could no longer discuss the financial aspect of the conversation. NM then informed me, if I wanted the fee for CI’s class dropped from account, I would need to forward all emails to her so, the situation could be reviewed and a decision would be made. I then returned to my hometown
3/17: I forwarded all of the required emails to NM I called Direct Loans to get information, regarding my financial aid no being applied to my 2009 Strayer tuition. I was informed that they never released the funds because Sprayer did not return a “certification” stating that I was enrolled as a student and how much tuition costs. I then asked if there was anything, on my part, that was incomplete. I was told, no, that I had done everything. They only needed the certification from Strayer. I then asked if it were possible to have the 2009 funds released to Strayer. I was then told that I would only be possible it Strayer requests it. I call Strayer to inform them of the information I received from Direct Loans. I was told that they had never heard of fianaical aid, from previous years, being reactive. I then stated, it was information I received directly from Direct Loans. I was told, I would be called back.
Is is now 6/28/2010. I have not received a letter, phone call or email from Strayer regarding all of the above events!
Nothing would make me happier than to sue Strayer University for all it is worth, for the following reasons:
I applied to another university and was denied admission because I had a missing transcript from Strayer, which needed to be reviewed. The transcript cannot be released when there is a balance on the account. Strayer has literally halted my education
They have wasted my time and money travelling to Charlotte regarding these issues, sending multiple emails and making multiple calls (international and domestic).
Strayer could possibly cause serious harm to my future finances if the balance they claim I owe is sent to collections.
They have cost me my health insurance, which I am no longer eligible, for because I am not a fulltime student. So, any doctors visits (which I am now overdue for) would have to paid 100% out of my pocket.
This whole situation has been very heartbreaking to me because I take my education very seriously. It has also been stressful, resulting in a resurgence of migraines and emotionally devastating.

Money Hungry Jerks
I have been attending Strayer University for 9 months when I was an unfortunate victim of an aggravated assault that affected my vision. I was unable to work for a month and had to undergo surgery. It is now 3 months later and the college refuses to credit my withdraw fees so that I can re-enroll in the classes I had to drop. I am not asking for a refund, only for them to re-instate me without having to pay more money. I have sent them documentation that was enough for the federal government to even pay my medical bills and they are still not able to give me a decision. Class starts in one week and I get nothing but emails requesting mroe information or a student advocate stating she is on "my side". They are ethically and morally corrupt, as well as the most unorganized office staff you have ever met (financial aid takes over a month to process with them and YOU have to hunt THEM down).
If you or anyone you know is even thinking of going there...DON'T!!!

Horrible Employer
You will be coerced into working holidays and overtime and WILL NOT BE PAID for it. Instead you will be further coerced into taking “comp time”. You will be overloaded with various task despite your department. If you voice your concern, you will deep six your career, be put on a performance plan and subsequently fired. It is a very nepotistic organization and although they institute promotion programs, all promotions are directly related to admissions (which is how they get around rewarding based on enrollments). Directors lie cheat and steal to make their goals and use/abuse their staff without care for their families or otherwise. They will lie to you and indicate that you “may work some weekends”, the reality of the matter is, you will be forced to work 6 days a week on skeleton crews and they will still demand that you provide good customer service. If you don’t hit you admissions numbers, be it one student shy, you will go on a performance plan. And if you work in the financial aid office, be prepared to carry 95% of the work load of your campus and receive 0 credit later. Your family if you have one will not matter at all, they work you more than 40 hours a week without one bit of concern. Salaried employees are abused beyond sanity as they can get “comp time” that never really comes. Hourly employees are raped for their time and effort. You can survive at Strayer though, if you are unscrupulous, can lie through your teeth, have no ethics or conscience, if you are willing to talk people into programs that they cant survive within, enroll them in classes they aren’t qualified for or do not have the ability to attend, enrolling students that you know will be denied financially because they are not citizens or have no high school diploma/college credits, or are happy making people take out private loans that they cant pay or don’t need, Strayer is a perfect fit, otherwise, DO NOT WORK FOR STRAYER, YOU WILL REGRET IT!!!
