Auction site or lottery?
A friend of mine just gave me the heads up on a site called Swoopo.com which claims to be an auction site, but to many people looks more a lottery.
You see, you have to purchase bids in order to be able to bid in the auction. And if you don't win, the bids you purchased and used are gone.
There are other aspects to their system, which apparently started in Europe in 2005 that make it even more terrible for the consumer.

scam
This site is a pure scam. They tell you to bid as the clock runs down, but is reset to 40 seconds each time a new bidder bids. I was on for over ten hours yesterday costing me $240 in bids. This is what happened with the over six items I was bidding on.
I thought I would save in bids by bidding at the last second. If someone else bid, then It went back to 40 seconds and I wasn't out a bid. However, each and every time one of my items was won by someone else it was at the 3 second mark. And it's not because I have a slow connection either. I have high speed wi-fi and a Lenovo laptop that's under a year old.
I tried five times to contact swoopo, to no avail. They will not respond. But since I used my Visa card I have a certain amount of protection from this sort of thing, so I called my bank and started a contestment of the charges.
I also have a facebook friend who has a radio show and is going to talk about swoopo on his show. I'm also putting this information all over the internet to warn people that this is nothing but a scam. I won't give up. And swoopo isn't the only penny auction like this. Please beware and find good deals elsewhere like ebay and the Sportsman's Guide.

fraud at auction
I finally got in touch with Swoopo Customer Service and was able to check into my Bid Purchase and Bidding accounts..Sorry to say, I find the Swoopo electronic tracking system much to be desired..
A large number of discrepancies and major flaws are uncovered with their existing records:
1) It shows four (4) instead of three (3) Bid Purchases that were confirmed to me vie e-mail;
2) It confirms the bidding on an Acer 18.4 inch Laptop at Friday noon (EST) which I was not award- ed the prize despite getting the highest bidder status;
3) It shows that the number of bids placed are far too many for that undertaking (45 bids);
4) It shows that I purchased two Bids (of 75 bids each costing $ 45) within one minute apart; More importantly, the times of Bid Purchase were 41/2 and 12+ hours after all the bids were expended!
5) It shows two special Free Offers of bids of unknown nature?? Besides, it came during the purport- ed two bid purchase (of 75 bids each coasting $ 45) within one minute apart;
6) After failing to get the winning prize (of an Acer Laptop), I devised a way to monitor the integrity of Swoopo electronic tracking system and found it un-reliable - It over recorded the number of bids by 147% - The details were submitted to Swoopo Customer Service
I demand Swoopo to investigate the above complaints in a timely fashion...Before reporting it to the proper authority again!!

frauds
On Thursday (July 23, 2009), I discovered Swoopo unfortunately when I sought for an inexpensive lap-top on-line thru Google Search..I have filed complaints to New York State Attorney General's office since! My complaints are two folds: 1) Swoopo shortchanged my bid numbers (and it refused to check my bid history in the time period of 36 hours following my initial bid purchase; and 2) Swoopo refused to honor my winning bid on Friday noon (July 24, 2009) for an Acer lap-top computer...When the red signal flashed (to show that I am the highest bidder when the bidding time expires) for more than 20 seconds, and when I keyed in the Yes button (OK), the bid went on...
I reported the irregularities to Swoopo right away and received its Ticket NO. 200907251000361... Their refusal to look into the fraudulent incidents are grounds for me to file complaints to NY State AG office for legal action with hope that some thing will be done finally!!!

Not adhering to there terms and conditions/Fraud
First this has got to be the most disgusting and disturbing scam/site.
My son who is under age has lost £45 for a phone that he bidded on! for a start he should of not been on there, HES UNDER AGE. I suggest the site try and focus on getting his money back, immediately.Also it states that only one account per household!! that wasnt adhered to, I managed to get on, I live in the same darn house! I would like to say that nobody on that site checks anything and its a disgrace and should be immediatley closed.
Please do not bid on this site, esp your kids as they can put anything down as there age, and they will not be checking it. They of course, just taking the money!I am lucky that I found this out when I did and I did some investigating... Any body from swoopo wants to comment on the above please ... I would love to hear from you!!
Very angry Mother.

Scam
Swoopo is a total scam. I spent £100 yesterday as a trial and closely monitored several auctions. My findings and irregularities are:
Any auction that you put into your watch list and then bid on has an increased rate of traffic.
I put 3 identical auctions for a '300 bid voucher' into my watch list.
I did not bid on 1 and it sold for £14.47
I put a couple of bids on another, it went to £36.49
The last one I placed 100+ bids - it went all the way to £52.79 and cleared out my account via the bid butler function!
The bid butler is supposed to bid against the opposition for you, in the last 10 seconds and will not bid if you are winning. Interstingely, I followed another auction for a camera. It had a very low bid rate and was regularly running down into the last 10 seconds and being updated by single bidders. I placed a bid butler for 20 bids at that time and as soon as I did, my 20 bids were placed in a second against another 'new' player who had not previously bid and who had a bid butler final bid, 1 higher than mine. Coincidence? I don't think so, I watched that auction for almost an hour and it was all single bids until my bid butler. It would have been impossible for someone to fill their bid butler boxes quick enough to counter my first bid as all the 20 were placed against the 'other' player in less than 1 second.
I watched several others and saw them go for pennies. Just try bidding on them and watch them shoot up!!
SCAM SCAM and SCAM again!! And totally un-regulated. Don't waste your money!!
Hope this helps

scam
This site is a rip off...buy the time you purchase anything...you have already spent, while purchasing, from swoopo the bids at 75 cents apiece...
for instance
i purchased 200 dollars worth ultimitely after bidding on a wii at 249.00 I still did not receive the will but lost 200 dollars as you still don't know who the other account person is bidding against you...it could be them..just think of the amount of people bidding on the same thing who also spent 200 dolloars...this company gets paid 10 times what the item is worth...and that is continuously.
