My complaint concerns Sylvania Silverstar Headlight Bulbs- which are being marketed across the nation as a new type of bulb that offers increased safety by extending the vision range on vehicles. The bulbs sell for about triple the cost of an ordinary headlight bulb.
I purchased two of these bulbs for my 2002 Honda Accord in November of 2006. The bulbs lasted less than three months before burning out. When I wrote Sylvania, this is the response I got.
"For the average driver, the SilverStars will last approximately
one year. I am not 100% sure what may have caused these lamps to repeatedly fail after such a short period of use in your vehicle. If only one lamp had failed I
would think that the part may have been defective, but to have two lamps fail
after so little use, it sounds as though the SilverStars may not be compatible
with your vehicle. We do find this to be the case from time to time. We aren't
100% certain why this happens in some vehicles and not in others, but in these
cases, we would recommend that you not use the SilverStars in this particular
vehicle and return to using standard (OEM) product which seems to be more
universally compatible. "
No where in their marketing does it say these bulbs are not compatible with some vehicles and nowhere does it state that the bulb are only supposed to last 1 year! Headlight bulbs should last three to five years easily! Sylvania knows they have a shoddy product and needs to recall these bulbs.
