Norton Antivirus 2007 is a crap!
I am a fairly literate computer user that has over twenty years of almost daily computer use both for my business and personal use. I installed Norton Antivirus 2007 about a week ago. The program seemed to install without problems. However, I discovered that the main program window would not fully open and most of the text and links could not be seen. That began a week long series of contacts with email support, phone support and ultimately with a phone support manager. I have spent over twenty hours of my own time trying to correct the problem. Symantec seems clueless and I found their support process one of the worst I've ever encountered. My operating system and most major programs have been compromised by corrupted Symantec files and I can't seem to correct the problem. I've used all of the "tools" available through the Symantec Web Site and all the usual "fixes" for such problems. All attempts to fix the issue have failed and Symantec has essentially stopped talking to me. I'm more than frustrated. My only solution now is to get rid of all Symantic products, reformat my hard drive and do a clean install of all programs. This will be a very, very time consuming process and is costing me thousands of dollars in lost revenue as I depend on my computer for my business. Symantec products have been generally good in my opinion. I have used their support teams before and had good luck. However, this time around, because the problem was difficult to deal with, they simply folded up their tent and went home, leaving me with no fixes and a corrupted computer. I am not a novice in terms of computer use. I assisted in forming a Countywide Court management system as well as other large County and Agency computer programs. This has been the most exasperating problem I have encountered in years. Symantec technical support works for the most common problems. In my opinion, if you have a major problem that was caused by their software, they are of little help. I will never again purchase another Symantec product.
