Charged twice
After receiving TWO different confirmations that I had renewed my Norton Antivirus subscription, I wrote and responded to their tech support four times explaining that I thought I had been charged twice, but was out of state and could not verify my concerns. I received replies to my email messages, but they did not take the steps to stop a double charge to my credit card. When I returned home this weekend, I was able to verify that I HAD been charged TWICE.

Symantec Uses Third Parties to find your new credit card numbers
Symantec uses a "billing update service" through many national banks to find out the new card numbers and expiration dates of your credit and checking account cards. Even if you have an entirely new credit card number from the one they have on file for you, if the old card is through a bank, they can find your new one and charge it without your permission if you have auto-renewal selected.
I received an auto-renewal notice saying my card on file (a card I had replaced a year ago) was expired and that I needed to provide a new card to them or risk losing protection. Well I did not want to renew, so I gave no new card. I assumed that was the end of it. A week later I received a "thank you" email from Symantec saying they have successfully charged my NEW card, that I never provided to them. I was horrified that they found out my new card number without my permission and CHARGED it.
The customer support tech (who was actually very nice) explained that Symantec uses a "billing update" service provided through major banks to find the new account information of existing customers who have "selected the convenience of auto renewal". Apparently they are so dedicated to our convenience that we don't even have to give them our credit card information. They will go out and find it.
She wouldn't elaborate, but I'm pretty sure her supervisors wouldn't let her. The old card on file was a debit card but since my checking account number is the same, they used this "service" to obtain my new card number associated with my checking account. Which means they have access to my checking account info!! I am horrified. This is the equivalent of digging through someone's garbage and stealing their information.
Needless to say, I am horrified that I was sent an email asking me to give a new card, and when I did not... they went out and hunted it down and CHARGED it without permission.

Take $42.00 for doing nothing
I bought Norton Antivirus, inside was a card for a free checkup. I called the number. Justin did the checkup. I asked him if Norton had any programs to fix my registry and clean up my hard drive. Justin said a normal $69.00 charge would be reduced to $40.00 and this would be done. Barbara, the tech did the same things to my computer that I had already done to clean up the hard drive. She could not uninstall a program for me. My hard drive was 21% free when she started and 21% free when she finished. They took $42.00 from my VISA card. I called and emailed and was ignored. I want my $42.00 back.

Automatic Renewal
They are doing automatic renewals on credit cards without letting people know. The only reason I found out, I'm pretty sure, is that my credit card had expired. So, they sent me an email to try to prod me into renewing it. I uninstalled their junk 6 months ago. And, I never signed up for this. I would never sign up for something like that. They probably hid this as some "option" in an obscure place in the ordering process when I first bought the stuff. I wonder how many millions of dollars they've stolen from people by doing this.

billed 5 times for 2 products total
I bought two Norton Internet Security renewals over the last 18 months and got 5 different billings...triple the price. I was so busy I didn't even notice till the most recent charge. Went back and found 2 more unauthorized "renewals", 3 total.

credit card charged for subscription renewal 7/01/08 but is not working and there isn't any way to contact Norton
I renewed my subscription on-line and was charged $59.98 7/1 for yearly renewal of subscription Semantic Norton antivirus service on computer. EVERY time I turn it on I get a pop up that my subscription is out of date and my computer is at risk. When I open the box, all it gives me is a form to renew my subscription. I already did this June 3oth and I'm so angry I see red everytime I try again and again to contact someone about it. There isnt anyway to tell anyone and there isnt any way to email the company. ALL I get is another renewal application!!! I want my money back and I want anti -virus protection.
