TD Bank Reviews

Unfair Fees
I've been with TD Bank when they bought Peoples Heritage out. I like the simply free checking they offered. Well when Commerce bank bought TD Bank I thought ok, we'll go with it. Ever since they took over, I have paid them more than what I make working everyweek in overdraft charges from companies that were not authorized to constantly take money out of my account. When I asked about the overdraft protection you have to fill out a credit application. I don't have credit. So I can't get this coverage that I used to get under the old TD Bank. I'm outraged. I also don't get my overdraft statements until 5-6 days later due to it being mailed from New Jersey now. I've asked them to reset my online account so I can see my expenses and no one has done that yet and it's over a year later!! Now I'm getting hit with $35 returned check fees and everything else. This bank is only looking out for itself. It's not a convience bank. They closed the Casco, Maine branch and makes everyone from the surrounding areas drive to Windham, ME which is 30 mins out of the way. What the hell? I'm tired of being treated like a number. You can't can't sqeeze blood out of a turnip. Well I think TD Bank found a way!

TD Bank back dated a check to make it bounce when funds were available
TD Bank back dated a check to make it bounce when funds were available. They bounced a payroll check for one of my employees despite the funds being available. I had to run to the bank and wire the funds from the account the check was on to the employees account in a different state. The check showed up in the account on a Saturday when there was ample money available to pay for it but they back dated it to Friday when we had confirmed that it hadn't come in.

There was over 15, 000 available on Saturday and 16, 000 available on Monday when they made the decision to bounce the 12, 000 check. They seem to have entered the wrong date for the check date and then bounced it despite the fact that funds were clearly available.

Then when asked about it the branch which said on Friday that it hadn't come in, simply blamed their "back office" like they have nothing to do with anything. And the fact that I've been there for 15 years and do over a million dollars in transactions per year wasn't even enough to get anyone to care at all. They made up excuses and tried to blame me.

I had to go in and wire the money that had been sitting there the whole time to the employee that they bounced the check to. Nobody at the Hawthorn NJ branch ever apologized at all. Not even a lame attempt. They didn't offer to return the fees or pay for the wire transfer or stopping the check so it couldn't come back and be taken out again. They blamed the back office and made excuses.

I stayed with Commerce even though I moved an hour away because I loved them and they were great for a long time. Unfortunately TD Bank's attempts to make the service more efficient seem to have taken any power away from the people that were good. Commerce was an awesome bank, but TD Bank is definitely NO Commerce.

I guess no bank is perfect, but even when it's obvious that they made a mistake they clearly handled this horribly and only made it worse. The mistake was bad, but the response (or lack of any response) was equally bad!

Find another smaller local bank because TD Banks has clearly changed into a big bank with a big bank attitude! They kept the same hours as Commerce but that seems like all they have left from Commerce Bank.

TD BANK is clearly No Commerce.

fees
TD Bank took over Commerce Bank which had an excpetional approach to customer service, and to no surprise, won the JD Power and Associates Award for exceptional service. It is no surprise that this ranking has dropped for the past years that TD Bank has consistently destroyed Commerce Bank's customer service model. Sneaky fees, delayed availability of funds, and long wait times on the phone. I hope JD Power sends me a survey for these creeps so I can voice my dismay. I'm sure I'm not alone though, so whoever gets the surveys should SLAM these crooks. I paid $210 in fees, mostly on transactions valued between $1 and $5, due to a single overdraft mishap. These practices are foul. We don't expect this, coming from the excellent service provided by Commerce Bank. I am seriously considering switching banks and I hope others will do the same because that's the only way it will really have an impact.

$380.00 in bank fees all in just 1 day
I am speechless, to make a long story short...I was charged $380.00 in bank fees. I use my debit card for most purchases. Wether it is a $2.00 d&d coffee or a quick stop for milk. I had paid several smaller bill through Bill Pay (mistake). They all appeared to me that they went through and paid. Being that I was told last year that bill pay is live by td bank. WELL that has changed! My mortgage had gone through the next day which I was short. Miscalculation? They paid and charged me a $35.00 fee for each and every charge to my account all because I was told from a customer service woman at the bank that they automaticly pay the highest bill first? WHAT!!? Also the customer service rep could not give me much info. because she said she knows nothing about bill pay and does not use TDBANK BILL PAY. Ahhhh what bank to you work for lady??? Anyway she got on the phone w/ TDbank bill pay and They do not pay in the order that you pay or charge. So the only thing I didn't get a $35.00 fee for was my 2, 7000.00 mortgage payment. But... my coffee $2.00 cost me $37.00 and Redbox cost me $36.00 And milk for my 3 children cost $39.00 this week and so-on. I feel as though I was robed by my own bank. I totally agree with paying the $35.00 fo the mortgage my mistake. But why rob me TDBANK. Unfair and crule. I still would love to see where it says in there little rule book that they pay the higest amount first no matter wich order YOU chose to pay your bills in.
OVERDRAFT FEES May 27, 2010
Overdraft Fees
TD Bank charged me $350.00 in overdraft fees and my account doesn't even show anything has overdrafted. They offered to return $105.00 which is nothing considering I still don't understand why they took it in the first place. Don't ever use TD Bank they are out for money and their customers

Customer Service is a joke
The customer service of this Bank is a joke. They have no idea what they are talking about, and give wrong/incomplete information.

I don't understand how JD Power can rank this Bank as the best in customer satisfaction. Thank god I don't have to deal with that junk anymore...

If you are looking for a good bank that does not nickel and dime you on everything STAY AWAY FROM THIS BANK...

fees and awful service
I am struggling right now and in the process of losing my house. I recently forgot about a check that I wrote for a $100.00 and had a rippling down affect that caused me to get $425.00 in fees. I called to get fees waived down and spoke to the main number and they credited me 2 fees now knowing that i was getting $140.00 more in fees. Look I understand about the fees and I understand why we get some of them but when you call and they decided to tell you that... listen to this, they switched me to the main store because they are only allowed to wiave 2 fees and after being on the phone for 30 minutes I got the manager of the Maywood store. I do not recall opening the account their but they switched me there anyway. The manager got on the phone and refused to waive fees and go on and tell me " YOU ARE GOING AROUND AND HAVING A GREAT TIME USING YOUR CARD AND HAVE NO RESPONSIBILITY" Her name is Becky she is the manager and I want a written apology from her. I am having hard times and I am not galavanting around town using my card for whatever. i am trying to make ends meet and sometimes you make a mistake. There is no reason for here to degrade me and make me feel worse than I already do trying to salvage my house. I am sooooo upset and I never write complain to anyone but this is soo painful and awful, I have to speak my mind. Thank you all for listening. Stephen A. a distraught TD BANK customer.

Overdraft charges
I left a small bank to come to TD Bank. I thought it was a wise move, considering all that had happened last year with banking. Saying I was wrong is an understatement! I have never heard of being charged overdraft charges when you technically never overdrew. I was also informed of somethng called "highest to lowest", where they can take your transactions and move them around. It doesnt sound like a huge deal unless you accidentally over draw once. Instead of paying a penalty of $35, which I would be more than happy to do for my mistake, I end up paying several. They justify doing this by explaining that your last transaction was higher than your previous ones, therefore taking the highest transaction out first. This doesnt sound legal to me, let alone ethical. It does not matter when you actually swipe your card. I have tried repeatedly to talk to customer service and am told every time that there is nothing they can do. They have literally stolen hundreds of dollars from me. They're own employees admit that it doesnt make sense and will tell you they are sorry, but not one person will explain how they are able to do this. Aren't there laws to prevent banks from moving around transactions so that they can turn one overdraft fee into many?

overdrafts
I was banking with Commerce for years and loved them. All of a sudden they changed to TD Bank and now I totally dipise them. I will say that I have never had as much trouble with online banking then I do with them. I've been charged so many overdraft fees ever since they became TD Bank.
I was let in on some inside information from a representative once. This guy told me that in your pending transactions on the online banking, TD Bank always lets the highest transaction go through before lower transactions say you have a transaction of 200.00 and a bunch of 5.00 ones... But you made the 5.00 ones before the 200.00 ones... TD Bank will still make the 200.00 one go through first... If you don't have the available funds you'll get slammed with 35.00 overdraft fees for each transaction after.
****That is their trick, they let big transactions go through first*** Small ones after, so if you don't have the funds you get 35.00 for each small amount, regardless if they were there a day or two before...
I hope this helps some people with overdraft problems..
