TD Bank Reviews

Worst bank ever
TD Bank is the worst bank every they have no right to charge anyone a surcharge fee every month, I would not recommend anyone to open a account with them, their service STINKS.In life people goe through things and it not fair that they should be able to do charge a consumer a 15.00 dollar surcharge that has been with them since they were COMMERCE BANK.Who every owns this bank now is a money hungry ***.I will eventually pay my bill but they need to have some type of concertration for people whoo have no job or iether or a fixed income.

Stay away
Stay away! They will speak down to you on the phone. The movie "thank you for smoking"? ...you'll be reminded of that guy every time they try to waffle about why they're literally stealing money. How is the "regulatory" system allowing? Get your money out now.

Customer Service/Overdraft fees
They are rude they are all poorly trained and none of them know what they are talking about they do not work well with the consumer and the only thing they ever say is im sorry im sorry does not work sorrys dont pay the bills or feed our kids. I set my account up not to overdraft then still allowed me to which i overdrew 20 dollars and then was charged 114 dollars in overdraft fees.I was with commerce for 8 years and never had a single problem with them and before they made the switch i asked if anything would change and they told me no everything would stay the same which was a LIE That's all they are good for LIES.I am taking my money and running to another bank and i hope they do not last because this is just ridiculous the way the people are always getting screwed for there hard earned money!

Posting Practices
I hope someone is investigating TD Bank's posting practices. I wrote a check and placed it in the RENT DROP box of my apt. complex office on Tuesday morning. As of late Tuesday night, the check had not been presented (as you would expect). Every Wednesday morning, my direct deposit goes in. The rule for direct deposit is: funds are available at the opening of business that day.

When I next checked my account, the rent check had been posted prior to the direct depost, and I was charged 35 dollars, which caused another overdraft and another 35 dollar charge, and a third...

How can a paper check presented at another financial instituion (I confirmed w/the rental office) hit my account on the same day and before my direct deposit, when it was not showing that night? How can they post debits BEFORE credits? Why do online payments go though when there is not suffcient funds and hit me for 35 bucks, instead of generating a no-cost message that my payment did not go?

Customers should be closing their account and fleeing these financial pirates in large numbers.

Usurious Fees without notice
TD Bank in East Northport NY has so far charged over $570.00 in overdraft charges on transactions of a Debit Card. The Debit card is NOT a Charge Card, and when I complained several times I was unable to see the Bank Manager in person. He was unavailable during the working day and unavailable during working hours. Naturally, he is unavailable at other times. His response to my inquiries, related through an employee named Elizabeth was a curt "NO, we cannot help you" ...left on my answering machine.
The problem: Dunkin Donuts in East Northport NY had decided on 36 Mar 2010 to put through transactions, debit and otherwise, that for some reason did not get processed since mid-february, even though the transactions were approved by the banks.
The customers were hit with debit withdrawals-one for each transaction. TD Bank immediatey hit me with a $175.00 FEE, and then other substantial feees for over a weeks time to again over $570.00. I was unable to stop the process as the 'YES' Bank was not co-operative at all. I am still unable to have representation in this process and I believe ot is time for the Atty Generals office to get involved.

Predatory Lending
BEWARE ALL BUSINESS OWNERS. TD Bank may offer a small business loan. You may get the money. BEWARE that you may not be able to adjust or increase your credit line. I have 810 credit score. I was commended on my business plan. We broke all projections by two accounting offices. One of the accounting offices was even reccomended by TD Bank. I received a credit line from them however I beleive they lend you money to get you "in" and then LOOK OUT!!! I beleive they are purposly approving loans with a prommise of more funding after "they see how it goes". What is really happening is they are giving just enough for you to sign the paper and then they walk away. This allows them to keep collecting intrest without getting in deeper. This intrest is paying off their bad banking losses. After 25 years in business and with a long history of owning several businesses, this bank is the worst bank you can possibly do business with. If your are considering a loan or credit line with a bank do not sign with the devil. Borrowing from TD Bank was the worst thing I have ever done in business in 25 years.

fees and customer service
I'm so sick of TD Bank.

Ever since they swallowed Commerce Bank whole, eva-reh-thang has just been circling the drain. I've been a Commerce customer as long as I've been banking, so that'd be nearly ten years. I stuck with them through the merge due in part to consumer loyalty, but mostly because they were my local bank and within walking distance. Oh, and also due to pure naiveté. Had I known what I know now about TD Bank I would have run, screaming, in the opposite direction.

Without getting too heavy into detail ( I still have an open account with them ...for now), watch out for their hidden charges. Mine came specifically in the form of an overdraft fee. I overdrew by less than $5. They charged me $35 in addition to that. But here's the thing: when I overdrew my account, it was from an ATM that told me I had an excess of the $20 that I withdrew.

"So, how did this happen, " you may ask? Well, it turns out that I had an earlier charge that had not yet been be applied to my account balance. So, despite the fact TD had a record of the charge (it was indeed listed, later, on my statement as a "pending transaction"), and as such KNEW that I technically didn't have the money in my account, they still allowed me to withdraw, in cash, $20. And then proceed to claim it was my fault and hit me with an overdraft fee. Something that simply didn't happen when TD was still Commerce, because they would not allow me to withdraw more than was in my account.

Now, we can't entirely hold TD responsible for this. As I said, my own naiveté played a role in putting me in this position. After all, when the change first took place, I admit I simply took the word of TD Bank representative that nothing would change. I did not go to my local branch to see what the merger would mean for me. I did not extensively research what new and exciting hidden fees would be coming my way. I simply assumed that, since we as customers essentially pay them to handle OUR money, that they would treat me fairly and with respect. Like I said: naive.

But what can I say? I'm a college student and up until very recently, I mainly conducted my banking with First National Mom. And Mom was always fair.

So, I did what any good consumer would do: research. I found out that TD has an "Opt Out" of what they call "OD Service, " which is what allows you withdraw money that isn't there, so that, if I ever found myself with a negative balance, my card would simply be rejected. I followed the advice of the rep I was talking to re:my problem, and sent a secure email through the TD Bank website asking to "opt out." They even charged my account back the initial overdraft fee. So problem solved right?

Wrong.

It's happened again and this time for a more significant amount. TD claims that I never opted out of the service to begin with. Apparently, the email I got back from them DID NOT say they had removed the service, as I thought it was saying. Apparently, they were only saying yes to paying back to fee, and that, by describing again in the email WHAT the opt out option was, and listing a customer service number, they were NOT saying that they were going forward with the request, but in fact saying that I had to go talk to customer service in order to have it done.

Oh wait, TD Bank. You mean the same customer service that told me to send a secure email to you? Ah. Of course. Why didn't I think of that--wait. I DID. And they told me it was "as simple as sending a secure email, " etc., etc. What a perfectly STUPID cycle.

Well, from what I FINALLY understand, after months of this B.S., is that it wouldn't even matter if I did opt out, because TD does not count pending transactions in your balance when you check it at an ATM. (Or online, for that matter--it has them listed separately) So, basically, this whole "solution" to my "problem" was not a solution at all.

I'm not sure where I'm going to go from here with this problem-- if there even is a place to go. After all, this whole time, I've been told it was my own fault for not knowing. But, how is it STILL my fault after I've discussed it with your costumer service reps, TD? And why is it that I have to play detective with information in regards to my own account? Why is it so difficult to do any of this?!

Just in case anyone from TD sees this-- You look like you're trying to scam people, even if you're not. Oh. And that little news flash isn't coming just from me, but from your own employees as well.

Consider this a break-up letter. When I'm through with this new B.S. your putting me through, I'm finding a new bank.

i made a deposit with a paper check @ the new check scanning ATM's for $444.51 and all was well for a week. When i was online banking i noticed a debit for $259.60, knowing that it was not mine i immediately contacted TD Bank and they said that this was a check that was deposited and the bank the check was drawn from was returning the check.so far i have been getting the run around for about 4 bussines days, "where is my money TDBANK!" there was never a deposit for $259.60. America- Don't Bank with TDBANK... It's not Convienent. Don't listen to Regis Rippa & Kelly Philbin. it's hard enough making a living. without the banks taking your hard earned money.

Fees
TD is behind the market again, charging $35.00 fees on debit card overdrafts of under a dollar, ripping off consumers by the way they process transactions (large to small) and encouraging debit card overdrafting. They should take a look at what Bank of America is doing. TD is doomed in the long run. Commerce Bank really drove the market in so many good ways. TD has nothing unique to offer and is very good at upsetting customers. I expect to see branch closings and consolidation in the near future as thousands of account holders leave.
