RIPPED OFF BY THE BANK
I ususally keep track of my account on line. Apparently the banks view of you account looks different then the one you are looking at. The bank charged me 210 in one day for pending charges that never showed. I feel like they just ripped me off

Excessive Fees
I have the same situation has below. The bank re-shuffles the charges to get the biggest bang for the buck and they don't care. They have taken hundreds from me when I'm in the greatest need. Everything looks ok online and even if you see there's an overdraft and have the funds in another accoun and they haven't assessed a fee yet and you transfer adequate funds into the questionable account they put that transfer after all the fees are charged. I've used many online banking systems and TD Bank is the WORST.

Okay well I have TD Banknorth, and here is what TD Banknorth does. If you have six items in pending and one causes you to go into negative, they assess fees for all six items that were in pending. So you over draft by $5 in one transaction, but get an instantaneous $210 in fees. Now if that's not bad enough, they'll post the fees to your account first, and then post those same pending transactions, which are now posting as a negative, so they charge you another $210 in fees. So for what was one pending overdraft, which in my case never would've posted as a negative cause I made the deposit... I was assessed $420. this happened to me once when I went to a gas station and the card wasn't getting a response, so after several attempts I decided to go to the clerk, who also swiped my card several times before it got a response. Well there were four $50 charges and the actual amount for gas charged to my account. So that along with all my other transactions in pending caused me to rack up a few fees. I caught it while it was all still in pending, but the bank tried to act like there was nothing they could do... so I said I'd just dispute it with Visa, since only one of those transactions were authorized and then they'd have to refund the fees anyway. They decided to refund my money, after speaking to supervisors and doing a lot of yelling and threatening. Now that I think about it... it was probably TD Banknorth that was offline all along. My most recent $420 worth of fees is currently being addressed by Office of the Comptroller of the Currency. I'm waiting for the results of the complaint to possibly proceed with a class action lawsuit... this account is suppose to have overdraft protection. If you're interested in forming a peaceful protest or being part of the class action lawsuit please feel free to contact me at [email protected]

Fees
So when I opened a checking account at TD Banknorth in Darien, CT it was called simply free checking, no fees, no minimum balance, free atm card from anywhere, etc...So apparently in March, TD Banknorth decided to do away with this bank account and now I have been charged with a $15 fee for not maintaining a minimum balance-which the bank debited from my overdraft protection. Is it just me, or should the bank have honored the simply fee checking for existing clients and just closed it for new clients? It make me mad that this bank can decide to just change the rules whenever it wants to make more money by charging clients ridiculous fees...I would never bank with this bank again.

New Fee Structure Snuck in
They have recently changed the accounts names and fee stucture in thier favor. All of a sudden you'll notice a $ 15.00 fee in Checking now when there was never one . Same with Savings . They call the checking and saving accounts new names . I always thought Banknorth was a medium sized bank you could deal with . They are now a big bank with the fee em to death mentality . I'm going to a small local bank or CU.

Overcharged
They accept charges from your debit card and then bounce them and charge you $35 for each one. Their online banking is a joke and they are not a customer friendly bank anymore as they were when I opened the account 4 years ago. They rob their customers. Many others feel the same way.

put in 2 collection agencies for $5 ATM fee (non TDBanknorth)
Before, dealing with the present problem, one credit agency rerfused to collect anything over a $5 non TD Banknorth ATM, and hiring NCO...guess that makes it look official. What did I do? I simply told them, I was switching banks, as it was clear, they were sucking money out of us for anything. However, prior to this, in about 2007, I tried to close a checking account, as it was Christmas, and they were escalating $35 every 3 days...eating up my whole disability check, and I was a widow with a child, trying to go back to school...they refused to close the account. My money from social security was COMPLETELY taken. Never mind Xmas...I had no rent money. Also, after a huge surgery, this got me evicted. They had the nerve to discharge the account, AND charge me $280 more! I also want my money back, and feel it should be returned. It was legal loansharking. This is also to the ladyalso, who said their fees were awful. I left AFTER I read, that (oh, a NEW rule...people working wouldn't have time to read, $35, if one takes more than $100 inside of the three days of direct deposit. Don't most of us pay our bills around the first of the month? oH, TOO BAD, more money in their pockets, after your checkgbook is off by $35, and they have your charges, they will be sorry, but this is their policy!!!

Maintanence fee / Overdraft
My wife and I have been with TD Banknorth for over 4 years now. We signed up for a free checking account when I started working there as a teller.
4 years later, and now no longer working for them. I still kept my checking through them because I like the free checking account, and they were in a convenient area for me. After dipping down to my last $5.17 cents, and still a few days from pay day I look at my statement and TD Banknorth had a fee on there for 15 dollars, throwing my account into the negatives. Before I could call them the next day, another fee was on there, a 35 dollar overdraft. I was furious.
I called them right away and talked to a real sweet lady who explained to me that this was a "new" thing they were doing to anyone who had their account go under $100. She then said my account was "not supposed" to go into the negatives. They were only supposed to bring my balance to zero. Isn't that great, take my last 5 dollars I have to my name for what? You are already making money off of what I have in there during the month. And how much maintenance do you have to do with money? Does it ever get out of hand? Does it mess up your living room?
When I worked for them all those years ago, they told me not to charge any kind of fees to anyone who had more than 20, 000 dollars in their account. Instead, I had to charge people living from paycheck to paycheck like myself, these stupid fees. Maybe we could have EVERYONE pay the fees, and cut them in half so that people like me, who need the extra money, can live a little more comfortably.
Why TD Banknorth takes from the poor and gives to the rich is beyond me. I'm looking into Credit Unions, and I will never EVER use TD Banknorth for anything...again.

OVERDRAFT
I'll try to keep it short. There online viewing of transactions are NOT what their employees see. A week ago I got hit with an overdraft of $35, but if you look at my transactions on line in the sequence they provide, it never went negative. Talk to a rep and they say differently then I get a statement in the mail that details MY mistake? Why can't I see online what they see and are able to print out? Then this week I overdrafted because the deposits I made took 3 freakin days to go into effect. Finally, even the representative said well, we cover the big items first, then the smaller items. This is designed to maximize there fees. Regardles of time a transaction took place they do them in this order. If they had done it from smallest to largest it would have been $35 instead of $210. Finally they claim they mailed me a change in my bank and savings account requiring the balance to be above $100. $15 fee. If that had not been assessed from the previous month that I didn't know about that fee, then that first $35 overdraft would not have occurred and then the next $210 would not have occurred. I wish I could say I am done with the bank, but I have to wait for some checks to clear, then I am done. Not sure who to go to now? I hear Key bank is just as nasty.

maitenance fees
Well, where do I start?
A little background info. MY husband and I have been TD Banknorth customers for about 4 years now. I have a personal (was called simply free) checking and savings, as does he. We then have a joint checking and savings account. Makes life easier and we both have our own "play" money and money to pay our independant credit card bills.
In April of 2009 I recieved a letter from TD Banknorth stating changes they were making, mainly about new fees...yippe! After reading through the fairly long letter, I was not worried. The only fees that would effect me were a monthly maitenence fee on my checking account, and that was only is my average daily balance was below $100. No biggy. I rarely fall below that amount, and if I do it's only for a few days at the end of the month.
So just today I check my balance online and there is a $15 dollar fee. My balance before the fee was $78. I spent a little extra money given the holiday weekend traveling. So I call customer service to see what the fee was for. Surely enough it was an account maitenence fee for falling below $100 daily balance. He customer service rep told me that letters were sent out to all TD Banknorth customers well in advance. I told him that I recieved that letter and read it thoroughly and noticed that it was an average daily balance. He then told me that no, it was if at any point in the month I fall below $100 that I would be charged the fee. That did not seem right to me, but whatever. Then I went into the fact that we have several different accounts with them and our savings has several thousands dollars in it, and didn't that count for anything. He then told me that I could transfer the money over from the savings to my checking to avoid the fee next month. I asked him what the point of a savings account was for if I had to keep transferring money to avoid a fee, when I still had money in my checking? He didn't have a response. I then asked him why the banks are kicking the middle man while he is down...it is already hard enough in this economy to make ends meet and now they want to charge those of use who can't hold a balance every day of the month above $100??? His response was that this is what the banking industry is doing now and there is not one bank out there that has a free checking account. I think told him that the banking industry needs to reevalute their industry and that I will be switching to a Credit Union where there are NO FEES. He wished me good luck, and that was that.
I still can't understand the logic behind this whole thing. They are making money of my husband and I with our savings account just sitting there (barely making any interest) and they they go and charge me a fee...Think of all the money they are making right now off all these poor people who can barely pay their bills every month. Stupid...just stupid.
So I highly suggest to any TD banknorth members to switch to a Credit Union ASAP before they get too much mroe of your money. Ridiculous, just ridiculous!
