Extremely High Overdraft Fees
The company is making money off of people who cannot afford it. They charged me 450.00+ dollars for overdraft fees that happened to post all in one day. I deposited a check on Friday for 600.00. This check took 3 days to deposit when it normally takes one day. In the same day I purchased 45.00 worth of products. They charged me 35.00 per purchase on 5.00 items.

STAY AWAY FROM THEM!!!

increase in interest rate
I contacted them to close my account, because I would not accept the increase in interest rates. They said OK. I just got my statement, and the rate was increased. I called, they said I used the card to make a purchase, so the rate was increased. The purchase was from the US mint. This was done before I closed the account. The mint had some delays in shipping, so the transaction was completed after I closed the account. I though I had given the mint a new CC #, but I did not. I called the bank, and they said the account was frozen, and since I had a puchase the rates went up. They say there is nothing they can do. I have never been late, or missed a payment, and I thought the account was closed. If it was closed the transaction would not have been processed. I have tried to settle this with them, but they will not change their decision. The mint will not issue a credit, since to much time has passed.

Thank you for any help you can give me.

SHADY BUSINESS!!! REDICULOUS OD FEES!
In the past month Banknorth has charged me over $300 in overdraft fees. When I ask them to explain why, they always tell me that its because certain things haven't cleared yet. It's quite a coincidence that everything for the past two weeks clears all on the same day: Right before my check is direct deposited. This leaves me with rediculous overdraft fees, and no money when my check is direct deposited to my account. When I take money out or make a purchase, my statement online will DEDUCT that amount from my available balance. Therefore, EVEN IF the transaction is still pending, it is still taken out of my account as if it is already gone. Since that is the case, WHY would i be charged overdraft fees for money that BANKNORTH itself said was already taken out?! I feel like I am being SCAMMED! Dates on pending transactions and money in my account does not match up. Everything is switched around and backwards to make it appear as if i had no money in my account the day i made a certain purchase. This is odd because I check my account balance often to make SURE i have money in my account so that i DON'T overdraft. Something is NOT right. I feel ROBBED. DO NOT DEAL WITH BANKNORTH, THEY WILL TAKE EVERY DIME THEY CAN GET WITHOUT ANY VALID EXPLANATION!!!

Giftcard fraud
My husband completed a survey at a local supermarket to receive a free $10.00 giftcard from TD Banknorth. The card had an expiration date of 12/09. The card was activated today with our understanding that we would have until December to use the balence. We received no indication that this card was subject to fees or a time restriction other than that printed on the card itself. TD Banknorth said we had a zero balence due to monthly maintenance fees. The customer service reps have been no help with resolving this matter. I just think that this is a perfect example of poor customer service and will we certainly never bank with them.

OD CHARGES/HANDLING
I'm with you FrequentFlyer95! Let's get this started! I'm sick and tired of the way they stick it up our A@*!!! You can't win with them. I think I'm gonna report them to the NH Banking Dept. like I with Countrywide. They are all a bunch of thiefs! Maybe we'll start a bank 'teaparty'! LOL

Outrages and Stecked OD fees
I've read through the complaints here abotu TD Banknorth, and I too have experienced the same thing over the last several months, I've been charged in total over $500 in OD fees, and still the bank cannot tell me what has happened. My online banking says I have money, the ATM says I have money, however when I withdraw they manipulate the numbers somehow and maximize their ability to charge me excess fees. My story is the EXACT story of most people on here. I put in a complaint at http://www.federalreserveconsumerhelp.gov/?District=13 and am thinking about filing legal action. Some lawyer somewhere should be interested in filing a class action lawsuit over this.

I have never had a bank like this before. They pick and choose when to charge over drafts and when they do watch out its always like un real amounts of money. They are not forgiving and expest everyone to be perfect and never make a mistake. They just lost our check one day and the money disapeared, their tellers do not know their banking policy and they they give you a hard time about any issues and do not believe a word you say. Do not deal with this bank if you want to keep your money.

unethical fees / charges
outrageous unexplainable fees and charges. TD banknorth is raping there clients of our money during these hard times. I also want every cent back that they have stolen from me. getting charged a 3$35 overdraft fee when your debit card is swiped for approval, and then another $35 fee when that same transaction post to your account. that's a $70 fee for one overdraft, and just the tip of the iceburg.

Outrageous Overdraft Fees
I have been a customer of TD Banknorth for over a year, with a steady income of more than $70, 000 deposited weekly in my checking account, a small loan, and a CD purchased from them as well.

Recently, I transferred money from my account to my sharebuilder savings account at the same time an automatic withdrawl was taken out of my checking, thus overdrawling my account by approximatley $150. Despide having overdraft protection on my accoutn, and a savings account balance of $120, no money was withdrawn from my savings, and I was charged an overdraft fee of $210, $35 per transaction that had occured that day. The following day I was charged another $210. I called the customer service number, spoke to a nice woman who refunded me $300, and told me that my account would be in the positive, and that I would not recieve any additional charges.

At close of business I recieved another $210 overdraft fee, and during the following week, a total of $735 of overdraft charges.

So at this point, they have charged me $1155 in a span of 10 days. I spoke calmly with the highest supervisor they would allow me to talk to, who informed me that it is bank policy, and nothing will be done about it.

Small claims court, here I come.

Bank Account
Okay well I have TD Banknorth, and here is what TD Banknorth does. If you have six items in pending and one causes you to go into negative, they assess fees for all six items that were in pending. So you over draft by $5 in one transaction, but get an instantaneous $210 in fees. Now if that's not bad enough, they'll post the fees to your account first, and then post those same pending transactions, which are now posting as a negative, so they charge you another $210 in fees. So for what was one pending overdraft, which in my case never would've posted as a negative cause I made the deposit... I was assessed $420. this happened to me once when I went to a gas station and the card wasn't getting a response, so after several attempts I decided to go to the clerk, who also swiped my card several times before it got a response. Well there were four $50 charges and the actual amount for gas charged to my account. So that along with all my other transactions in pending caused me to rack up a few fees. I caught it while it was all still in pending, but the bank tried to act like there was nothing they could do... so I said I'd just dispute it with Visa, since only one of those transactions were authorized and then they'd have to refund the fees anyway. They decided to refund my money, after speaking to supervisors and doing a lot of yelling and threatening. Now that I think about it... it was probably TD Banknorth that was offline all along. My most recent $420 worth of fees is currently being addressed by Office of the Comptroller of the Currency. I'm waiting for the results of the complaint to possibly proceed with a class action lawsuit... this account is suppose to have overdraft protection. If you're interested in forming a peaceful protest or being part of the class action lawsuit please feel free to contact me at [email protected]
