Today, I went to the TD branch where my account is located to have a cheque certified. Believe me, if I could do it myself, I certainly would.
After waiting in line for over 15 minutes minutes, while the limited amount of tellers finished schmoozing with a colleague who had just returned from lunch, I was finally "helped". The teller spoke minimal English and had never certified a cheque before. He had to look up the process on his system.
Appartently the first step was to advise me that he would be chanrging me an additional $10 to perform this "service" - to which I replied, You've got to be kidding!.
1. - They charge me interest for using their money, fine, thats reasonableto a degree, but the rate just went up AGAIN!
2. - They pay virtually nothing for using MY money
3. - They charge me a monthly fee for which they do nothing - I do my banking on line, my statements are sent via email and if I happen to be so careless as to have not recorded a cheque, they will gladly send me a picture of it for $1.50 per instance.
4. The cheque to be certified was written on my own cheque (the cheques I had already paid for when I ordered them), by me - other than "verifying" the money was in my account and punching a few holes the teller did NOTHING.
Then his supervisor arrived and the first thing out of her mouth was the $10 fee "Making sure the other guy has told me about it" - to which I replied, It would be in your best interests not to go on about that as I'm already very pissed off.
These people are worse than criminals and banking today is the worse form of legalized robbery.
