TechSkills Reviews

Took my education for granted and scammed me!
I started at techskills 6-10. They promissed me on the job training on all office equipment: Multiline phone, copier, mail machine, how to do all medical forms in the office, work at your own pace, resume, cover letter help. Well that was a joke!! Your pretty much teaching yourself at their pace they set for you!! There are no Certified Instructors!! They are noneducated people like us with no education!! The one's that get jobs are the one's being paid by techskills to make techskills look good! People wake up and use your voice and put techskills to shame! I am ashamed of this place that calls themselves a school!!

liars
Techskills has over charged me for a class i have taken. They are taking money from the government on classes students do not take. They made a student come to school after he had passed his exams due to they would get more money this way. Few people has got jobs from this school after was being told they help find jobs. Its all about the money.. not education. The government should go in an investigate this school. They are only accredited because of false information that they provide.

Lack of Professionalism
Certainly did NOT receive the professional interaction appropriate for a school which professes to prepare the student for the professional world, particularly from my instructor.

In this economy, I am grateful that I have a job right now that I get as many hours as I can to work in order to keep a roof over my head. I therefore cannot complete assignments at the pace that a full-time student can. I was getting up at 3:00 in the morning to study for 4 hours a day before work.

Apparently, TechSkills is set up for an unemployed full-time student. It was not made clear to me what this pace would entail: harassment to complete my assignments per their lock-step pace and basically being called lazy by my instructor: in these words ""If you will just make a little effort" and UNclear, ambiguous communication as to what is expected of me.

Between my working 7 days a week on little sleep between studying and working and this insulting, petty comment was the straw that broke the camel's back. I quit after a couple of months into the course and am, of course, more in debt--(understandably still have to buy the software and pay for some of their time.)
My mistakes lay in 1: not doing my research and learning what questions to ask & 2: not going in there like a CSI investigator and literally interrogating them as to every single detail of their operation and what is expected of the student. If a perspective student doesn't do that, then they may find themselves royally screwed. Obviously, these folks are not going to tell you anymore than is absolutely necessary to get you in their door and get you paying the tuition.

Money scam
7 years ago I signed up for a (membership) to Techskills(Kansas City) and was unable to follow through because of legal problems. I took the course for approximately 1 hour and was unable to finish. I had people get a hold of them to let them know that I was unable to finish and all they did was take the money and run. Now the lender (Key Bank, whom they don't deal with anymore) is holding me accountable for it 7 years later and have my credit report messed up so I can't buy a house. Now I am up in arms trying to figure out what to do to get this straightened out.

Fraudelant practices
I signed up for a so-called membership over 7 years ago and was unable to follow through with it because of a legal issue. I too approximately 1 hour of classes from them before i was unable to continue. I had a friend try to get a hold of them to let them know what had happened, to get my money back and they refused and basically took the 8, 000$ and ran. I've tried to talk to them and they won't help me, so I got a hold of the lender with whom they don't deal with anymore (Key Bank) and all they want to do is hold me accountable for the money that I never saw for an education that i never received. Now, it has messed my dredit up and is holding me up in trying to buy a house. This has me royally pissed off. Does anyone know of anything that I can do to get this fixed?

misrepresentation
My husband was scammed by this school. He is a veteran and was told by the "enrollment counselor" (a.k.a. salesperson) that he could use his GI Bill to pay for his tuition. My husband had no reason to doubt this because we had always been told by the Army and the VA that GI Bill will pay for just about every kind of education imaginable. What we didn't know is that the school itself has to take steps in order to be able to accept the GI Bill. TechSkills had not done taken those steps and refused to do so at our request. The enrollment director even admitted to my husband that the salesperson "should not have told him that." However, since he didn't get it in writing they refused to do anything about it. Now we are stuck paying $200+ a month (which really hurts as we have a child in daycare), when my husband is supposed to be getting paid to go to school! My husband and I helped defend this country and this is the thanks we get.

Deceptive selling practices
Well after a very hard sell to my general requst for information, I was sold thinking that this was going to help my career. I of course was sold on the all you can take in 12 months being told that at any time if for any reason I cannot continue then I would get a refund for what I did not take. The structure of the school program is very deceptive in hindsight as on the one hand they say its all you can take in 12 months and you are on a track to get x, y, z certifications. In my case it was A+, Net+, Security+ a Cisco cert or 2, MSCA.
Well after my signing of the paperwork I got a tour it looked ok as I would be doing nearly all of this at home.
Well at orientation which was myself and one other person there for the medical program(odd you would lump them together) I was given a book to follow, A meyers all in one A+ book which you can buy at any book store and then sat in front of a pc in a room full of people and told to "Get After It". Thats it, I thought ok well not what we were talking about before signing the paperwork but whatever I'm sure they will have counseling to help guide and nurture my training. Well then I ask the guy that did the orientation that I wanted to go home and do it there as I was tired of hearing a girl on her Cell in the "Lab Room" yaking about how her soon to be x-boyfriend ruined her CD collection. Mind you I had headphones on doing the coursework and she was louder than that. But no one even bothered to get her out of the lab after multiple complaints. Well he told me that I had to spend so many hours on the campus. I said well thats not what I was told by the guy who sold me this and if that was the case I would not have joined as I work 50+ hours a week so as I told him there is no way I can do that. In the end I lost my job due to the economy and needed to drop out after needing to work to live and went from making 40k to 0 and no one was hiring. I finished my A+ had to take it twice because even though I was making straight a's in their courses I missed the A+ tests and was told by the lady up front that no one in there class passes it the first time. HELLO THEN WHY DO I NEED YOU IF I WILL FAIL USING YOUR SCHOOL.

In the end I was a few weeks away from getting my Net+ but had to leave for the mentioned above.
Oh and my great mentoring I was promised when I failed the one of two A+ tests. He said and I quote "well study some more and try again" Wow what insight! I now am in a fight to get a bigger refund because I was told it was time based, then was told no it was what you completed. Either way I'm on the hook for just under $10, 000 for an A+ cert that I could have achieved by myself at home with the $75 dollar book they shoved at me and then paid for the tests vouchers myself which would have been I think without looking it up on COMP TIA's website 120 a piece.

They have told me different stories about my refund, I went to the BBB and they responded by saying we refunded what was fair and the BBB closed it as they are NOT A MEMBER of the BBB.

By the way if I had just purchased the A+ alone through them it would be less than what I was charged. Another note is the entire course thing that they touted as all you can earn in 12 months but is somehow not time based. they charged me 90-95% of the entire thing. my advice go to a community college get an associates. I will after I pay off the 10K they hosed me for.

worthless
This school is a joke. There is no way anyone trying to find work in any course they offer is qualified to do the work needed to be successful. I think it is time for a class action law suit.

None
This isn't even a complaint at all.

For all of you that went to techskills...Techskills itself is NOT a scam completely. It depends on which one you went to.I know that sounds pretty bad but I was a student there and i became A+ certified(IT Technican) and am nearly N+ certified.

How could i become A+ certified if the schools are a "scam"?How could i have fixed a plethora of computer problems(even ones that the Geek Squad out of Best Buy couldn't even fix)?

Honestly, the campus in Brookfield, Wisconsin is the best campus to go to(and is the one i went to myself). Most of the other ones are definitly terrible.

I never had any problems with instructors or really any problems at all.It depends on how each campus is run and just because one campus is bad doesn't mean the other 31 are as well.

You have to check out each campus individually rather than looking it as a whole.
