I answered my phone today and listened to a recording from "my" bank. The prerecorded message said it was calling from my bank (Sovereign) and that it needed to re-verify my personal information because they lost my info. I was supposed to enter in my social security number (!!!), my birth date, and say my mother's maiden name after the beep. I knew immediately that this was a scam but I listened so I could warn others about it.
Your bank will NEVER EVER EVER call you to ask for private identifying information. They may ask you in come in in person to re-fill out forms but NOT via a prerecorded message. DO NOT EVER give out your social security number, birthdate, mother's maiden name, grandmother's middle name, etc. If you do you could have your identity stolen.
You can always check with your bank in person or call them yourself to make sure any letter or phone call is real and not a scammer.
