I subscribed to a service at www.tellafriendking.com just on 12 months ago. The idea is you put their form on your website, and people recommend your website to their friends. When I signed up, the website made it very clear that I was subscribing to a RECURRING subscription. In other words, it would automatically renew every year. I was aware of this at the time. However let me tell you what happened. I will number them in point order.

1) I signed up and paid the money to them 12 months ago
2) I used the service for a total of only a few weeks. I then removed it from my website as I did not need it any longer. (At this point, I had forgotten it was a Recurring Subscription) I should have cancelled the service subscription but didn't due to forgetting it was recurring.
3) 12 months later, this month, August 2008, I got a charge that appeared on my credit card for the amount required just under $80.oo USA
4) I then contacted them by PHONE and told them I wanted the scubscription cancelled. They did not bother to reply.
5) I then sent a total of 5 emails to them, and threatened them that I would have no choice but to go to my bank and report it as fraud for this reason. They did not answer me. Therefore it would renew again next year, right? So if they could not be bothered to answer, then it was a case of fraud.
6) I eventually did get an answer via email. They did cancel the subscription. However they flatly refused to refund me the 12 months subscription.

Here is the point:

For the best part of 12 months, I was not even using their services at all. I had removed it from my website nearly 12 months ago. Therefore they were not providing anything at all in terms of service to me, as the script was not functioning.

I received an email where they absolutely would not give me my money back for this latest charge.

Now of course, I did subscribe 12 months ago, and no one is arguing that. But due to the fact that I was not even usign their stuff, should make ethics and honesty the right and proper thing to do.

Technically they can demand their money, and technically they will get away with it no doubt.

However, I would not recommend that you deal with someone like that if they are determined to take your money and not think it through properly.

Any honest business, would see the issue. The client was not even using the system at all. The amount of money I did pay was for the first 12 months, and then I have paid another 12 months in advance, and the only service I got, was for that first few weeks prior to its removal from my website.

What do you think? I would not recommend people like that at all. Here is what they said. I have removed my personal name from the email, otherwise its a direct paste into this forum. Its below the line:

Despite your claim to the contrary, it is impossible for you to have signed up without knowing that our service is a recurring subscription. You specifically chose a yearly subscription with the relevant discounts and free bonus gift, and confirmed it multiple times.
