I brought a mahogany banker's desk to Terry's Consign and Design Furnishings for consignment. I purchased the desk new for $1, 500. It was in perfect condition. My asking price was $750. I checked on the desk to see if there were any offers and was told I need to reduce the price because the drawer was damaged. I asked how it got damaged and went to the store to check. I fixed the drawer myself and reluctantly took their suggestion to reduce the price to $385. I visited the store again near the end of my contract to arrange a pickup since it still had not sold. Their employee told me, "the manager will let you know when to arrange for a pickup. Meanwhile, leave it here a week longer in case it sells". So, I did as he advised.
On my final visit (one week later), I inquired if the desk had sold and was told it was no longer in the store. When I inquired of its whereabouts, the manager told me the desk was damaged further and they had donated it to a non-profit. When I asked about the non-profit, I was given an unrecognizable name of a business that could not be reached. In the end, my $1, 500 desk was gone and I had no money to show for it. I found other desks like this one selling on Ebay and Craigslist for $750 and up. I tried contacting the home office for weeks via phone calls and US mail but no one returned my messages. The manager refused to do anything except to say "try our corporate office". Terry's Consignment is a SCAM! I warn everyone I know to avoid them if they place any value in their belongings. Their customer service is a joke.
