This is the letter that I sent to their corporate office.
Dear Express Lube,
My name is Thomas Scopel and I used to be a frequent customer at the 340 W. Grenada Blvd, Ormond Beach, Fl 32176 store. The reason I say used to is because I will never utilize a Texaco Express Lube anywhere again. They do say that one bad apple spoils the whole bunch and in this case, the adage has turned out to be true. I could very easily offer my receipt number and the date it occurred, however, I prefer not to waste neither your nor my time.
Regardless, here is why I will never use it again:
I pulled into the place, as I had on numerous occasions prior, and proceeded to have the oil changed on my 2006 HHR. One and a half weeks later, I began to have starter troubles. I took it to the GM dealer to check it out and three certified mechanics proceeded to ask me where all the oil on the front of my motor came from? I told them that I didn't know and that I had just had my oil changed at your establishment. They informed me that the excessive oil mess that had been left had ran directly down below and onto the bendix of my starter, and shorted it out. When I saw the puddle of oil directly beside the filter housing, I didn't need to look further and understood.
I then went to Advanced Auto Parts and picked up a brand new starter ($174.00). After hosing the massive mess off the front of the motor and allowing it to dry overnight, I replaced the starter, which solved the problem. However, when I was at Advanced Auto Parts, and considering what 3 GM certified mechanics had previously told me, I inquired for their opinion. It was the same as the mechanics.'
So, after being a satisfied customer for quite some time, I am no longer, considering that Texaco Express Lube has caused me this financial grief.
Of course, I am expecting no reply to this email and if I do, I expect it will probably contain some story that indicates that it is not Texaco's problem. And, after seeing the mess with my own eyes as well as speaking with certified mechanics, I will whole heartedly disagree with you. I will also warn the unsuspecting, when asked about the quality of the Texaco Express Lube oil changes. And, to be frankly honest, I suspect Texaco will not care.
No longer a customer,
Thomas Scopel
