The small charity I work for was approached by a salesman from The Charity Telecoms Group aka Greencom. He told us he could get us cheaper calls and line rental and throw in some phones they had hanging round the office. This was a complete bare-faced lie the deal is actually a 5 YEAR LEASE WITH ASSOCIATED DISCOUNTED CALL AND RENTAL CHARGES. At no time did Mr. Baker state this, at all times even when asked directly he stated the phones were free, at no time did he outline that we were entering into a 5 year lease but only that the paperwork was a direct debit for the line rental and phone calls as discussed, this is a complete contravention of the Consumer Credit Act 1974 which clearly defines the process around lease agreements. When we spoke to the Director we anticipated he would be shocked in reality it was apparent he had no concern about his salesman mis-selling and made no effort or attempt at concilliation instead sitting on the side of his salesman. If they approach you make sure you get everything clearly in writing, if he says the phones are free get it in writing like we have, if he gives you a form and calls it a direct debit make sure a) any empty boxes are filled out b) you read the document and get it in writing if he says it is just a direct debit - it's not it's a lease c) would recommend you think twice before doing business with them, they promised to cut our costs, they knew we are small and without even a slight change in step they have not only increased our costs, but tied us into a lease by simply lying and there were hidden charges of over £100 admin fee made by the lease company, again this was never mentioned. The Charity Telecoms by-line is 'Helping you to help others' I think it should read 'helping you to help ourselves'...
