On 7th December 2008 The Kitchen fitters came to my house to fit my new kitchen, namely wall and base units, two under-
Slung sinks, a monobloc tap, a dishwasher, freezer, in column fridge and microwave. The contract time was for theComplete job, usually they said, taking one week. During the first two days work progressed very quickly and the work seemed ok. They informed me on the third day that they would finish the job whatever time it took, even up to 6pm! I was very sceptical as they still had some base units, the five worktops, the sinks, tap and all appliances, including fridge, freezer, dishwasher, microwave & splashback to fit. I left them to it, expecting them to consult me regarding any problems-alterations they would come across, just as they had on the first two days. Unfortunately they did not consult me regarding the tower unit housing the fridge, microwave and top cupboard and fitted them so that they opened in the wrong and different directions to each other. Also the fridge was badly fitted because every time the door was opened part of the metal strip attached to the fridge caught on the door causing it to chip the door away.
I had expensive solid wood worktops which should have been oiled at least twice, as per manufacturer`s instructions, before fitting. They were not oiled at all!!! The worktops were cut out for the under-slung sinks but showed some of the corners. The larger of the two sinks was not secured and moved on use. The monobloc tap was very stiff and there was no hot water since the flow was diminished due to the flexi-connection being twisted and bent almost double. The largest of the two sinks leaked underneath. The dishwasher when opened caused the plinth to come off. The dishwasher was fitted at the opposite end of the run to that specified and therefore one of the un its could not be fitted - they used this unit to rectify problems they encountered. They were supposed to cut an access hole at the back of one of the units in order that I can access the mains water tap - they did not do this...
There were two doors, one base and one wall unit door, for which they omitted to fit the soft closures supplied. There were various other things which have come to light since they left, including badly fitting cornices etc., some of which was gouged out rather badly. Needless to say I am not at all impressed with their workmanship.
Mr. Woollett and Mr. Crane requested a deposit which I gave them on engagement and they accepted a cheque for final settlement on leaving, which to their annoyance, I cancelled immediately I realised I didn`t have any hot water. I telephoned them at the same time and tried to explain that I had written a cheque for some.
