They steal housing listings from free classified sites like Craigslist, Kijiji, local newspapers and so on, dump them into a database, and charge apartment hunters $100 ($75 in Victoria BC) to search this database for a couple of months.
Rental Guide does NOT ask permission of any of the landlords and property management companies who originally posted the ads on free sites. That might not be illegal, but it's definitely unethical, and goes against the TOS of all the free classified sites they steal from.
Even worse, they then spam those SAME classified sites every single day with multiple ads telling people to use their service! When their ads are flagged down as spam and the community tells Rental Guide to stop spamming and take a hike, Rental Guide just posts MORE spam ads.
They call themselves "The Rental Professionals"... it's a complete joke. The listings that you pay to recieve on their "exclusive" page that you are given a username and password to access, are outdated or are completely erroneous with wrong details and contact info. When these guys are confronted about these issues, they talk fast with many lame excuses and promises to resolve these matters for you
...But they never do. When asked for the refund that they promise [their "money back guarantee] when you first sign up with them because of non delivery of services, they become condescending, insulting and try to brow beat the customer about their inability to use the service properly... because the customer must be either "stupid and doesn't know how to use the internet" or "too lazy" to search the listings they've provided. There are many many complaints about this company being submitted to the BBB all the time and yet they still maintain a good rating with them. It's absolutely insane.
