It's nice that we do have a place with beautiful art work to see, but the museum has NO BUSINESS HOSTING WEDDINGS. They tell you what you want to hear to make your wedding day perfect until they get your check and cash it. Then it turns into a nightmare. They tell you one day there are 240 chairs available to use. If they don't like the way you want to use the chairs the amount of chairs goes down to 100. The events coordinator wants to coordinate the wedding and went so far as to try and tell us where things HAD to go, when a few months before when we were signing the contract she said we could do whatever we wanted as long as it was within museum guidelines. The staff at the art museum is the most RUDE and DISRESPECTFUL group of people I have ever encountered in my life. On the day of my rehearsal the events coordinator told me I could stand on a chair to hang something. So I was standing on the chair when I was very rudely screamed at by a security guard to get down. He screamed at me in front of the entire staff, museum goers and my wedding party. I walked out of the room and was approached by the events coordinator. She LIED to my face and said I could not stand on a chair when she HAD in fact ten minutes earlier told me I could. She apologized in the following manner: "I'm sorry you misunderstood what I said but I told you that you could not stand on a chair." The man setting up the tables and chairs was quite possibly the rudest person I have ever encountered. We asked if he could set up a set of stairs to the stage where our ceremony was going to take place. He very rudely informed us it was the last thing he set up and we were just going to have deal with it. I let it go because I was going to make the most of my wedding day or try to rather. The next day she told us basically it was an inconvenience because we did not all come dressed for the ceremony, after she had previously told us that we could use the gift shop to get dressed in prior to the contract signing and money being handed over. I don't know many brides that wear their white dresses to walk across a dirty parking lot. Still, I let it go. I went so far as to offer the staff cake and punch at the reception. I thought it was all over until I received a call from the Beaumont Police Department a few weeks after the wedding about an incident that took place the night of my wedding. A piece of the museum property had been vandalized and the museum point blank told the BMT PD that we would have wanted revenge for the dispute with the security guard. Accused us without missing a beat, never paying mind that we abided all the rules and moved furniture around multiple times to accommodate the ever changing rules they put forth. I HAVE NEVER IN MY LIFE HEARD OF ANYTHING SO RIDICULOUS. Brides be warned, don't be sucked into the glitz and glamor they offer you before they get your money. In the end, pitching a tent in your own backyard would be a better idea then having to deal with THE SOUTHEAST TEXAS ART MUSEUM. I seriously just don't even have the words of what a bad experience it was. I really just want to remember my wedding day as the greatest day of my life, but there will always be a black mark on that day thanks to the unfriendly, rude, and deceiving staff there.
