Poor service
My wife and I recently purchased a Felicity Sunlit Cherry Bedroom Suite from Thomasville Furniture. Our Thomasville saleswoman had led us to believe that our Thomasville furniture would be made in North Carolina, but when it was delivered we discovered that it was all made in China. Thomasville had built its reputation on delivering high quality, American-made furniture from North Carolina -- but it appears that those days are now long gone.
The fit & finish of our Thomasville made-in-China furniture was poor. There's really no other way to describe it. Our bedroom suite has a total of 28 drawers. Many drawers weren't centered in their openings; some drawers were recessed in too far, and other drawers extended out too far. After 2 visits from Thomasville's repair people, we still have: 8 drawers not centered in their openings; 13 that extend out too far; and 7 that are recessed in too far. Thomasville's repair people told us that our remaining problems were non-repairable. So I guess we'll just have to learn to live with this poor quality.
When we purchased our furniture, we specifically asked our Thomasville saleswoman what kind of wood was used in its construction. She told us it was "entirely cherry". When we later asked Thomasville's repair people that same question, they looked at our furniture and readily identified over 5 different species of wood -- just one was cherry, and at least 2 were obscure, unidentifiable Chinese hardwoods. What we actually received was quite different from what we paid for. When we brought this to the attention of the management of our Thomasville dealer, they completely ignored our complaint.
At first glance, Thomasville's construction quality appeared to us to be quite good (i.e., dovetail drawers, etc.). But in places where it wouldn't be quite as obvious to a customer, some of the furniture's joints are held together with staples. That doesn't instill much confidence that the furniture will last for more than a few years. We would have expected to find that kind of cheap construction in bedroom suites that cost under $1, 500 -- but not in a Thomasville bedroom suite that cost us over $5, 000!
My wife's dresser arrived with a large 10" circular hole in the back of the cabinet. Rather than repairing this damage "before" the furniture was shipped, Thomasville's factory instead tried to conceal the damage by screwing a large Masonite panel over the hole. While Thomasville repaired the damaged back panel "after" we discovered it, the point is that Thomasville deliberately shipped severely damaged furniture to a customer with the hope that the damage would never be discovered. That's not what one would expect from a quality "world class" furniture brand.
Thomasville's furniture is shipped with a Chinese "plasticized" finish. In our experience, it attracts dust like a magnet and unlike a quality lacquered or varnished finish it's relatively soft and easily damaged. According to Thomasville's "printed furniture care instructions" my wife and I are not suppose to allow synthetics, rubber, or plastics to rest on the wood finish as they may damage the finish. That, of course, prohibits placing most lamps, clocks, radios, TVs, pens, etc. on top of your Thomasville furniture unless you first modify the bottoms of those products.
Everything at Thomasville seems to now be focused on charging its customers as much as possible, while at the same time cutting its costs as much possible. Even the screws that hold the knobs to the drawers have been cost-cut. Rather than extending the screws into the knobs by at least 3/8", they just barely touch the knob. The cost savings across an entire bedroom set has to be less than a dollar -- and yet amazingly Thomasville still went for it.
After contacting our local Thomasville dealer several times about many of these problems and receiving no satisfaction, my wife and I wrote to Ed Teplitz, president of Thomasville Furniture Industries -- and also to Ralph Scozzafava, CEO of Furniture Brands International. Furniture Brands International owns Thomasville, along with Broyhill, Lane, Drexel Heritage, Henredon, and Maitland-Smith. Neither of them ever responded to us. That pretty much sums-up our Thomasville customer satisfaction experience.

Leather fading
My husband and I moved into a our new home. We are empty nesters so our furniture does not get the wear of most families. We have never treated ourselves in 30 years to new family room and dining room furniture. We went to Thomasville to buy quality furniture (usa made) NOT. They have always or at least I thought a great reputation. We spent over 9K in Benjamin love seat, sofa and up charged same fabric to two morgan recliners. Within the first year the recliners showed wear on the head area and arm area. Customer service in hayward CA said they have never heard of this including the store manager at the Dublin store. Wow we thought how could this be. We live just like everyone else. With the many conversations I had with them Thomasville decided to send a specialist and he tested the leather to be water soluable (surprise)!. Thomasville replaced our two chairs, and love seat and said most likely it will not happen again. Different lot #. Well not true. The same happened all over again so I called with the year. Again very surprised so they sent another person out to inspect. He stated the leather was not protected so therefore it was the way it is and this is normal wear. I was told the cheaper the cost of your leather sofa the more the quality will stand up the more expensive the more wear you will show. I know many people that have leather sofas and chairs for 10+ years and they look great. I am so embarrased when people come over to look at our furniture but it also tells the true story about the poor quality Thomasville is producing. We thought we would have this for many years.

no return
We bought a Paula Dean table from Thomasville in October. We were told that we wouyld recieve it within 10 weeks. We have just gotten it delivered to us today... it is Feb 16. And we have realized that it is way too big;we don't want it. I really asking my sales associate if we didn't like it, can we return it, and she replied "Yes". I hate dealing with places like these because there are always underlying secrets that they don't tell you, but they are desperate to m, ake the sale. I work in retail, and we take everything back, no questions asked. Why can't furniture be taken back?

furniture quality and service
If you value your time and money, DO NOT order anything from Thomasville. GO TO POTTERY BARN. THEIR MERCHANDISE IS EXCELLENT, STANDS UP WELL FOR YEARS, IS MADE IN THE USA MOST OF THE TIME AND IS LESS PRICEY THAN THOMASVILLE. My husband and I ordered $12, 000 of furniture from Thomasville, and boy, at the time, we got treated very nicely, something that quickly changed when we encountered several problems with their merchandise. We ordered a bedroom set, couch and matching chair and a dinette collection as well as coffee and side tables. Once the couch and chair arrived, we started to notice the cushioned becoming depressed and the upholstery was staining from natural body oil from hands and arms. The same thing happened to the matching chair. It doesn't end there: the dinette table was scratching easily simply by sliding a placemat across it! The matching dinette chairs (6) did not have the same color upholstery! We had to wait another 6-8 weeks for them to rectify the couch and chair situation and when they did, the sofa came with nail heads that were never originally ordered (with the manager of the store blaming us for not paying proper attention to the new work order that we signed) and the chair seat cushion was the wrong color. I was informed that they could take off the nail heads and return the couch to me.Well, sick and tired of waiting and fighting with them for proper furniture, I asked for my money back for the couch and chair and that is when the horrible attitudes began at all levels: the store manager, the general manager and the owner whose exact words were, "what do you expect me to do about it? Is it too much to ask that I review your order and call you back?!" Bottom line: Thomasville is franchised, therefore, you are out of luck and are at the mercy of its employees since there is no mother company to complain to.

delivery
I ordered a living room set on 9/24 and the sales person told me it would be delivered in 4-6 weeks. The first time I visited the store I had been told 3 weeks, but I just figured the 4-6 week timeframe was allowing extra time. Well this is obviously the 6th week. I called the store Tuesday and an office manager said she would follow up the next morning at the latest. Today I followed up since there was no call back received and she was very short with me. I eventually requested to speak with her manager, the store manager. He was kinder, but still unable to provide a delivery date and said that it could be 60-90 days. I checked my paperwork and it does state 60-90 days for upholstery. Today I did what I should have done in the first place- checked online regarding customer service issues- THIS COMPANY ACTUALLY HAS AN F RATING WITH THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU due to delivery problems. I think that speaks for itself. (no, my set was not custom)

Poor service and quality
Never again. Over $3700 in an office suite. Received multiple guarantees from the sales staff of this store that what was represented on the floor would be delivered to my door. While some furniture pieces were made in China, others were made in North Carolina. The Chinese furniture seemed better quality. The North Carolina furniture was of poorer quality. Even the finishes from the different plants did not match. North Carolina had worm hole distress marking, and the Chinese did not. We wound up purchasing off the floor damaged pieces (better quality China furniture) in order to save something from the deal. Sales staff would not refund despite their own verbal and written guarantee. These people don't abide by their own verbal and written statements. Assuming this establishment remains open, count on us to never give any recommendation for a Thomasville purchase!!!

Insurance coverage
We purchase a Thomasville suite of furniture for our living room, just over 2 years ago. We were persuaded by the sales executive, to also purchase the "everything covered" Guardsman insurance policy at the same time.
Recently, the stitching on one of the pieces started to unravel. Thomasville will not repair, because it is over 12 months old - and the Insurance company will not cover, because it's due to poor workmanship!
So, buyers beware - the "everything covered" insurance policy does not cover poor workmanship...

poor customer servies
Overall poor customer service and long, long, long wait for delivery. After you purchase the merchandise the sales people will not help you. Our sales associate actually hung up the phone when I inquired about the whereabouts of my furniture (that was sitting in a warehouse just waiting to be delivered!). North Olmsted store uses a third party delivery company that they will not let you speak with directly. When you try to complain to their HQ you are told that they don't have anything to do with the individual stores, they just sell the furniture to them and in turn they sell it to sucker consumers like myself. Don't buy from here...go elsewhere-you will be glad you did. BTW-Value City Furniture is right next door to this Thomasville and they have everything you need and will give you a delivery date that they will stick by (and not in 85 days).

Misrepresentation
I had identified a leather couch for purchase towards the end of July 2008 and informed the sale's agent that I would likely buy it but not until the tax free weekend in August, which would save me $120.00. The sale's agent informed me that he would provide me with a 5% discount (same amount as the sales tax) if I ordered the couch that day.
I elected to do so. Half of the ticket price was charged to my credit card and the balance was charged at the time of delivery. Upon delivery I asked if the discount had been applied. The delivery guys had no knowledge and the slip they had reflected the original price. I immediately contacted the sales agent who first tried to tell me that somehow I was not entitled to the discount and then he said he'd check with the manager. After no less than 10 telephone calls with the sales agent, in which said a variety of things including, I wasn't entitled to the discount because I received the couch sooner than I would have had I waited until the sales tax holiday, that since the tax holiday had come and gone he could not make an adjustment on the price, etc. Eventually he agreed to abide by his own agreement and provide me with the discount. After not receiving it I again called and the agent who finally disclosed he had no authority to provide me with the 5% discount.
I then spoke with the manager who tried to rehash the sales agent's arguments, but they fell on deaf ears.
After I informed the manager of exactly what happened, he agreed to credit my credit card $120. At this point I am still waiting for the credit and will continue to call each week until it is received. In the meantime, I cannot recommend purchasing items from Thomasville and they have lost me, my friends and family as customers.
