damaged ring
I was recently in Hong kong,
I Purchased seven sets of Playing cards from the new Tiffany shop in Kowloon.
On leaving the shop I pushed open the two enormous metal swing doors. This resulted in the doors catching my engagement ring. It knocked my ring severely and really hurt my ring finger. Initially I thought I had just hurt my finger.
However when I returned to the Hotel i checked my ring setting, my setting had been totally Mangled, I lifted out of the setting my beautiful two carat diamond. Feeling very lucky but dismayed that the doors could cause so much damage.I immediately returned to Tiffanies.
When I explained to the sales assistant what had happened, she apologised in a polite but disbelieving manner.
Another assistant was checking the door area where it happened and noticed a glisten in the door mat under the door. She rushed to the sticky tape and rolled up a ball of sticky tape and pushed it into the bottom of the door matt and retrieved one of my small diamonds from under my setting that had been dislodged.
Now they showed a little more interest, in believing my story.
I requested that they might like to repair the ring. No offer was made as there was no one there that could make that decision.
I then took my ring to a trusted jeweller who I have dealt with over many years. He agreed to repair and have it ready the next day.
He charged a very reasonable 410 dollars, which include a replacement of two small point diamonds in the setting.
The manager of Tiffany s called me two days later to see what she could do ! I said the thing to do was to pay for my repairs, which she agreed to do.
I had to go back to Tiffany s to have my ring photographed and to drop the invoice for the repair.
After offering to pay for repair, I then received a phone call to say that for my inconvenience they would like to send me a box of chocolates !
When I asked, were they also going to send a check, they replied a box of chocolates was all they were prepared to offer.
I felt this was a really poor outcome. When tiffany s said that they were going to pay for the damage, I was very impressed, I shared those sentiments with the five girlfriends I was traveling with.
All agreed good outcome well done !
However, when I relayed that the offer had been withdrawn all agreed it was a very poor resolution.
My Mother has a saying " Talk with your feet" In this instance this is exactly what happened, we decided as a group that we would not shop there.
Considering we all had daughters, grand daughters nieces and nephews all with upcoming 21st s and special occasions that we planned to shop for.
I myself had been instructed by my husband to purchase my 50th present.
The situation really nigled at me, It wasn't so much the 400 dollars, it was the attitude, I had a meeting with the manageress to relay my feelings but was just met with a shrug and apology.
I left the store and you wont believe it, Yes the doors did it again to my ring. I could not believe it !! I called the manageress over and showed her the mark on my finger, where my ring had pushed back into my knuckle.
I was once again just met with a polite shrug. Fortunately this time the diamond setting was not damaged.
FIX THE DOORS !!! THe handles are to close together.
I have since spoken to a friend who has a solitaire diamond ring and hers also got given a good knock on the way in.
I would love for this report to go to someone who cares and wants to resolve problems.
