Tim Horton's Reviews

Real Fruit Smoothie
I bought a Tim Horton's "Real Fruit Smoothie" the other day, and I
wondered if it was legal to describe such a substance as Real Fruit Smoothie. It
wasn't a smoothie, it was a slushie as it was full of crushed ice with some flavouring substance in it, and it tasted very artifical. It clearly was not a smoothie made of real fruits. This was blatant dishonesty in advertising a product. What can be done?

hiring
Our 15 year old daughter recently applied for a job at Tim's. At her interview, the woman interviewing her told her that it was mandatory for her to work midnight shifts. Our daughter replied that her parents would not be comfortable with that. Obviously she was not hired. If this is a company policy, it's ridiculous to make minors work midnight shifts. If it's not a policy the manager is way out of line expecting that from young school age people. We recently visited the same location for coffee and soup. The service was VERY bad. The girl that was hired was a jerk, she never cracked a smile, barely spoke and messed up our order and the orders of most of the people behind us. They were also out of buns for sandwiches.

Pricing
I have no idea why this happens but I can never get the same price for one drink I get. When I don't want striaght up coffee, I ask for a half coffee, half hot chocolate. I usually get charged for the price of a coffee but every so often someone will charge me for a cafe mocha. A cafe mocha contains half coffee, half hot chocalate AND a topping of whipped cream and chocolate curls. However, I don't get the toppings (too much sugar). I wouldn't complain so much but my brother worked at a Timmy's for over a year and he's told me he only charged for a coffee when anyone ordered that.

Rims already rolled up
I believe that about 80% of the Tim Horton's coffee I buy during the roll-up-the-rim-to-win contest have already been rolled up and checked. It is easy to tell...if the spot where the writing is is looser than the rest of the rim...it's obviously been looked at.

I would like to see Tim Hortons investigate how many prizes are won by employees and their families compared to the general population.

Horrible Service
My friend and I placed an order at our local Tim Hortons drive thru. We were two minutes away when we realized our coffee's were not right. We returned to the store and I went inside to speak with the lady who made our coffee. She thought she mixed up the lids, but I asked for two new ones. I wanted to make sure we got the right order because only one of them was decaffeinated. She tossed the coffee's in a sink and said it would be a few minutes to brew the decaffeinated coffee. Her tone and demeanor was very rude. While waiting for the coffee to brew, she complained to her co-worker in front of me about the situation. She thought I was being unreasonable. Her demeanor and attitude was very unprofessional. When the coffee's were ready, she slammed them down on the counter and stormed away to the back kitchen. I know we all have bad days at work, but this was unbelievable. After all, I was the one inconvenienced.

Poor Service
Today I experienced very rude service at the Tim Horton's close by my office.

I approached the cashier and they did not even acknowledge me, rather nodded her head. I asked for 7 x $10 give cards and the person just turned away and walked off. I asked someone close by if they understood (language barrier) and they said yes. Someone finally came by did not look at my and started to process the cards while talking in hindu to another 5 people behind the counter. The manger (I think) just handed me the cards and walked away !

Where were the professional greetings? - Hello, how can I help you today?
Is there anything else I can get you today?
Would you like to try our new XXXXXXX with your order today?
Thank you please come again

ETC...

Just because you hire sub par labor does not mean that they can forget to be polite !

Denial of Order
I went to Tim Horton's this morning to get some breakfast (in a rush I left my own on the counter at home). I went into a store I passed everyday and ordered a tea and a plain Croissant toasted with lite cream cheese. This is something I've ordered many times at other Tim's. The girl at the counter stared at me so I repeated myself. She then tells me that they don't toast croissants. She looked about my age (19) and newer then the other so I politely asked if they had one of the large rotating toasters. (I will add that I used to work at a Tim Horton's for over a year and I even became a trainer, I know what can be done, infact I had toasted a croissant many times over and even made sandwiches on them.) So the older woman comes over and the girl explains that I would like a croissant toasted. This older woman tells me again that they don't toast them. I was a little agitated but stayed polite and explained that if they have the right toaster that it will be no problem and I even told her I used to work at a Tim's. Thats when she changes her excuse and says that they don't do it because they are a "high traffic store". Really? What Tim Horton's isn't? I worked at one with a drive through near a GO Station. (This was just a walkin). The other thing that came to mind was, "You toast bagels!" There really isn't much difference. Anyways, I got the croissant but not without obvious attitude and a snooty remark exchanged with the bagel girl (While I Was Standing There!). I tried to find a head office site to complain to, but couldn't find one and therefore vented here. Thanks for listening. If this happens to you, don't let them tell you otherwise.

PS. The tea wasn't stirred.

Breakfast sandwich and coffee
I was not feeling well this morning, so as nice treat, my husband brought me home a sausage and egg on a biscuit and an XL decaf coffee (I'm allergic to caffeine). His thoughtfulness was soon overshadowed. I had to add coffee to my coffee and at first look, I thought they had mistakenly put 2 sausage patties on my sandwich. Upon closer inspection, I discovered that, no, it was not a second meat patty, but an egg that was so over-cooked it had the same texture and deep brown colouring. So I had to cook my own egg or do without.
I was always glad to have a Canadian company to get my breakfast and coffee at, but I am so sick of managers letting this kind of CRAP go out their door repeatedly...I'm going to MacDonald's for breakfast and Starbuck's for coffee.
Too bad on you, Tim's, My husband drops an easy $50 a week there. Not anymore.

Unfair labour practices
My mother worked as the manager in our family business since she was young. When it was sold, the only places that would call her back despite her decades of experience were fast food restaurants. She went to work as a baker at Tim Horton's.

She was paid minimum wage to wake up at 3 AM and reheat frozen balls of dough. Her hours were capped due to "low sales" (this location is in a busy intersection between two high schools on a major road in and out of town). Her supervisors were verbally abusive, and she was reprimanded for errors caused by other employees, for questioning the sanitation of the store, and for allowing a delivery person to use the restroom.

She was promoted to day supervisor and allowed to keep a normal schedule. They increased her pay a whole quarter. She couldn't take time off to upgrade her computer skills or to get the surgery she needs on her legs so she can continue working.

She called me yesterday to tell me the house she'd purchased nine years ago was being foreclosed because she'd lost 40% of her income since starting at Tim Horton's one year ago and couldn't pay her mortgage. My mother does not live outside of her means. Minimum wage may be acceptable for part time employees still in high school, but an adult with extensive industry experience, who works 60 hours a week?

Before someone jumps on me, no, this is not exclusively Tim Horton's fault. That someone, let alone an enormous corporation, consider not paying full time employees a living wage is sad. All businesses that think it's fair to treat their people like this should be boycott. The food we purchase at restaurants can be made quicker, cheaper, faster, healthier, and better at home. Get these thieves out of our towns so more family homes won't be lost.
