Couple of weeks ago I was going through my overpriced HD tier channel on Austins own Time Warner cable TV and realized I was missing a couple of channels. I subscribe to a couple of movie channels, but seeing they don't really rotate new movies in and old movies out often enough I get bored. Seems like for the most part I have over 2, 800, 969 totally useless channels on my digital cable and I only watch about maybe 15 of those channels. I used to get more with rabbit ears and a UHF antennae. Now with the digital age, I can't even do that without getting some sort of converter box.
Anyways, my wife and I frequently watched HDNET Movies, one of 2 FREE HD movie channels and that day I was surfing channels I found it was gone... GONE! Later I found out much to my disappointment that Time Warner decided to opt out of their contract with Mark Cuban and ditch the HDNET channels altogether! Stewing on this did me no good; just like the rest of the subscribers in Austin I too have been beaten into submissiveness. In my opinion this is just another thing Time Warner is doing to force customers into purchasing subscriptions to movie packages. Why get HBO or Showtime if you have an HD channel that actually plays high definition movies in their proper aspect ratio?? They are loosing money.
The same with their internet company... more and more people will want to take advantage of their wonderful advertising campaign of a couple of being able to download movies and music at "lightning" speeds. Now they are working on a way to charge you by the bandwidth usage and we will be helpless to do anything about it in reality. Despite complaints and petitions, they are moving forward with tiered internet packages. I personally will be stuck because the alternatives to switching providers are horrible.
In the end I will probably cut back on my digital package because I just won't be able to warrant the cost per use. It's a shame. Customer satisfaction is becoming obsolete.
