Breeding Defective Dogs

Hi Shawni. I read your complaint on Tammie Chrisopher, owner of Top Dog Bloodhounds. I also read her response, not only on this website but on another one as well. She stated that she had to put the mother of your puppy down due to being a carrier of Demodectic Mange.

I bought my puppy from her on June 17, 2009. A few weeks ago I noticed a few bald spots on his head and legs. I took him to the vet yesterday and turns out he has Demodectic Mange, which is hereditary. I spoke to Tammie through email telling her I believe my puppy has this disease. She said "NON OF MY DOGS HERE HAVE DEMODEX NOR HAVE THEY EVER PRODUCED PUPPES WITH THIS ISSUE." She is obviously lying since I read her own words saying she put the mother of your puppy down due to this issue. She advised me to put my puppy down and that she would send me a replacement.

Being an animal lover, I would never agree to such a thing. I have become attached to this puppy and never would I want her to just ship me a replacement. My vet says it is treatable and in most dogs he says it has disappeard within about 4 weeks. Copper, my puppy, is being treated for this disease. I have involved my mother in the matter and she is dealing with Tammie herself. We are trying to recieve payment for his vet bills. I'm not sure how successful this will be, but I know for sure she will be turned into the AKC and also the ASPCA.

I just wanted to let you know that you are not the only one who has been cheated by Tammie Christopher. From my prospective, she is an awful person to think she can just send replacement puppies whenever she sees fit. She obviously is not very educated about this disease because according to my vet, most of the dogs he has treated, have overcome it within four treatments.

My opinion is, she knows what she is doing. Any AKC registered dog is supposed to be genectically tested before they are bred. This is just a way for her to make money and leave us with sick puppies and enormous vet bills. I personally did not purchase my puppy to be a police dog, show dog, or any other type of service dog. I purchased him to be a pet, a part of my family, and I would never want to replace him. Tammie is an inhumane person and I hope one day she is stopped.

I also note, she did not let me come to her house. She told me it would be too hard to find and to meet her at the local McDonalds. At the time, I was excited about getting my new puppy and did not think twice about it. Now, on the other hand, I realize this was probably a way for her to keep me from seeing his parents.

UNPAPERED PUPPY

I AM SAD TO SAY THAT, LIKE MANY AMERICANS LOOKING FOR A 'BEST FRIEND', I WAS TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF BY A DOG BREEDER. I WAS LOOKING FOR A COMPANION FOR MY BLOODHOUND BLOO, IN HOPES THAT ONE DAY, I WOULD BE ABLE TO BEGIN MY DREAM, AS A DOG BREEDER AND RESCUER! ALL OF MY DOGS IN THE PAST HAVE BEEN RESCUES, WITH THE EXCEPTION OF MY CURRENT TWO BLOO AND OUR GIRL DAISY. THE ONLY REASON I DID NOT LOOK FOR RESCUES THIS TIME WAS BECAUSE I KNEW I WANTED TO BREED THEM.

WHEN BLOO WAS 8 MONTHS OLD, I FOUND TOP DOG BLOODHOUNDS, AND THERE I CAME IN CONTACT WITH TAMMIE CHRISTOPHER, OWNER. SHE SAID SHE HAD A GOOD MATCH FOR BLOO AND I. SHE WAS ASKING THE SAME PRICE THAT I PAID FOR BLOO. WITHIN A COUPLE OF SHORT DAYS, MY CHRISTMAS GIFT DAISY, SHOWED UP AT THE AIRPORT. THE TRANSFER WENT VERY EASY. TAMMIE WAS HELPFUL AND EASY TO WORK WITH...UNTIL... I NOTICED SHE SENT NO PAPERWORK WITH HER(WHICH WE ALREADY DISCUSSED ONCE!), EXCEPT THE VETS VERY VAGUE PRINTOUT. I CALLED HER TO LET HER KNOW THAT I NEEDED HER AKC APPLICATION. TAMMIE TOLD ME SHE WOULD HANDLE IT, AND IT TAKES TWO WEEKS TO RECIEVE THE PAPERWORK AFTER SHE FILES IT. I ASKED HER TO FILE IT RIGHT AWAY, SO THAT THERE WAS NO DELAY. SHE SAID SHE WANTED TO WAIT TO MAKE SURE WE KEEP HER NAME AS DAISY, ALTHOUGH WE KNEW FROM THE START WHAT HER NAME WOULD BE. I WAITED FOR THE PAPERWORK, ASSUMING SHE FILED IT AS SHE SAID SHE WOULD. TAMMIE GREW MORE AND MORE DIFFICULT TO GET IN CONTACT WITH. AFTER ABOUT A MONTH, I EMAILED AND LET HER KNOW I HAVE NOT YET RECIEVED ANYTHING REGARDING DAISY'S REGISTRATION. SHE DID NOT REPOND. I SENT HER A TOTAL OF THREE EMAILS AND NO RESPONSE TO THOSE, OR ANY OF MY PHONE CALLS.

FINALLY TODAY, OVER 7 MONTHS LATER, I CALLED HER FROM MY HOUSE, I WAS ABLE TO TALK TO HER. SHE TOLD ME THAT SHE WILL NOT PROVIDE ME WITH ANY PAPERWORK UNTIL DAISY IS SPAYED. THIS WAS NEWS TO ME. IN ALL OF THE DIALOGUE THAT TAMMIE AND I HAD, SHE NEVER MENTIONED THIS! SHE SAID THAT THERE IS A CONTRACT ON HER WEBSITE STATING SO. WELL, I HAD NO CONTRACT, NOTHING WITH MY SIGNATURE THAT SAYS I WOULD SPAY MY DOG! SHE ALSO TOLD ME, AS SHE WAS YELLING AT ME ON THE PHONE, SHE NEVER EVEN REGISTERED THAT PARTICULAR LITTER. SO EVEN IF I SPAYED HER, SHE STILL CAN'T BE REGISTERED!!!

TAMMIE FLAT OUT LIED TO ME! I ADORE DAISY AND THE BOTTOM LINE IS THAT PAPERS DON'T CHANGE THE FACT THAT SHE IS PART OF MY FAMILY, BUT THIS DOG IS SUPPOSED TO BE THE BEGINNING OF MY LIFELONG DREAM. IF I WANTED A SPAYED DOG, I WOULD HAVE RESCUED ONE THAT REALLY NEEDED A HOME. I AGREE WITH PET POPULATION CONTROL 100%, EXCEPT WHEN YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT PEOPLE WHO WANT TO RESPONSIBILY AND INTIMATELY BREED, RAISE, AND PROVIDE PUPPIES TO GOOD LOVING HOMES! TAMMIE CHRISTOPHER OF TOP DOG BLOODHOUNDS TREATED ME SO RUDELY ONCE SHE HAD MY MONEY, SHE HAS AWFUL BUSINESS SKILLS, AND EVEN WORSE PEOPLE SKILLS.
