My family has listed a rental property on Craigslist, under Los Angeles County.
We have received several calls at our listed telephone number by a robocaller for TopDogListing.com. Specifically, at least 3 three calls have come in from 571-261-0012 (Florida!), providing a call back number of 800-913-5420.

This number is for Top Dog Leasing in either Long Beach or Laguna Beach, California (both addresses are at mail box drop centers.)

I called that number immediately after receiving one of those robocalls. I spoke with a man who identified himself as Ron Hubbard. I asked him where he learned about our rental house listing and he responded: "CraigsList". He told me to "get a life" and hung up on me when I challenged him on the source of the listing and mentioned we are on the DNC list.

According to Craigslist's terms of service, no commercial use by third parties is to be made of information listed on their site.

We briefly researched this company. Hubbard's real estate license has been revoked by the California Dept. of Real Estate. His web site utilizes official Realtor agreements and contracts, none of which he is entitled to use. In fact, it is a criminal offense to hold ones' self out as a licensed agent if not licensed. He does not and cannot have a broker holding his license. I called an agent in Fountain Valley listed in the California Dept of Real Estate as "Topdog Leasing" (DRE license number 00465928) available on their on-line records system. He said that for a very brief period of time there was a business association, which was severed when Hubbard's business ethics (or lack thereof) became obvious.

Here is the interesting thing with Craigslist: I called them (415-566-6394) and spoke with a gentleman who was less than interested in this matter. I informed him that his organization's own terms of service prohibited use of our information for 3rd party commercial gain. I asked him what they can/will do to prevent Hubbard from utilizing our information posted on Craigslist.org for his illegal commercial gain.

We certainly don't want him to illicitly copy our information and post it on his web site.

The response was that Craiglist is a "bulletin board" and they are not responsible for anything posted on it. He mentioned that possibly Hubbard's IP address could be blocked, but like a weed, Hubbard could pop up again utilizing a different computer having a different IP address. He also mentioned that law enforcement could get involved, but don't hold your breath.

Lastly, he mentioned that flagging each item as "prohibited" could get an item deleted, but he would not indicate the number of flags that would achieve that objective.

IN THE LAST SEVERAL DAYS WE HAVE NOTICED NEW LISTINGS BY HUBBARD, BOTH UNDER LOS ANGELES AND SEPARATELY UNDER SAN DIEGO, either as "Ron Dog" or as "RYAN". The number for "RYAN" is 714-393-0019.
