We contracted Top Tails to watch over our house and dogs over Father's Day weekend. We went over the dogs schedule, food, and medication when the owner, Tanya Grant, and an associate visited our home. We immediately felt comfortable with all of the diligence to understand our home and routine. Little did we know we were just being sized up for a scam. Ms. Grant arrived two hours late for the service and stayed only 30 minutes before leaving again for over 8 hours (we paid for the 24 hour service, 3 days, 72 hours in total). When she returned she brought another animal, a dog, not known to us or our dogs. We never discussed other animals in our house nor would we have ever approved this. Then things got really out of hand when Ms. Grant started going through our things and prepared herself a drink from our bar and most shocking, put on my wife's slippers and walking around the house as if they were hers. We tried contacting Ms. Grant numerous time, but she would not return our calls. We sent the building concierge and a personal friend to talk to Ms. Grant asking her to call us, but she never did. To remedy the situation I had to run to the airport literally to book the next flight home missing a days work and Fathers Day with my family back home.
I was forced to call the Police to remove Ms. Grant from our home. When the Police arrived she refused to open the front door resulting in the Police kicking in the door. Inside we found the main floor of the townhouse covered in urine and feces, a strange dog, and Ms. Grant wearing my wife's running shoes. This was an absolute nightmare.
Ms. Grant failed to provide the service of walking the dogs and looking after the house, she put our animals health and welfare at risk by bringing a strange dog into our home and leaving them unattended for more than 8 hours, and she violated our personal space by wearing my wife's things.
As any reasonable person would do, I waited a few days for the anger to pass and I wrote Ms. Grant an email asking for a refund for the services she didn't provide, a cleaning fee, repairs to the door, and the plane ticket home (change fee) but she ignored my request. I called her office and they said they would pass the message on, but again, no response. At this point she has not refunded our money, much less paid for damages.
Fortunately we have a security system in our home with video, so we were able to monitor Ms. Grant entering and exiting our home and some of the activities inside. I have attached some still pictures from that video and the damages to the floors and sink and pantry where Ms. Grant left pet excrement.
