Toshiba Satellite Reviews

Laptop LCD Screen
I bought a Toshiba Satellite Laptop Computer in September of 2009. In November of 2009, awoke one morning to find LCD screen had cracked overnight. I contacted Toshiba and without even looking at the computer they said I cause the damage to the computer and that they would not honor their warranty. They would REPAIR the screen for $600 (the laptop only cost me $450 new). After some haggling, they agreed to examine the laptop. I sent it to them overnight. I called after two weeks to check the status of the repair and they said again that it was not covered under warranty . They again offered to repair it. This time only $425 . I have filed complaints the Better Business Bureau and the US Fair Trade Commission. I encourage others to file complaints with Toshiba and to not buy their products until their business practices improve.

Bad Customer Service
On February 27, 2009 I went into Best Buy to buy an HP laptop. The laptop I had researched and really hope to get was sold out and I was told it would be a week before more came in stock. A sales person showed me a few laptops with the same specs as the one I picked out. I decided on a Toshiba Satellite which was a little cheaper and was missing a few things the HP had but for the most part it was what I was looking for. My favorite thing about it was the Label Flash that would allow me to print text and pictures directly on a cd or dvd. The salesman assured me that Label Flash was the same as Light Scribe ( HP's version of Label Flash) and that we could use the same disks. So I leave the store very happy with my brand new laptop. Oh yes I forgot to mention that the salesman was very rude to us after he found out we would be getting our warrany through Square Trade instead of Best Buy.

The Laptop worked great for about 2 months except that it had terrible battery life and Label Flash does not use the same disks as Lights Sribe. The DVD's for Label Flash are nearly impossible to find and when you do find them they are quite a bit more expensive where the Light Scribe DVD's are sold just about everywhere and cost less. After about 2 months the laptop got to where it would heat up and get so hot that it shut off. Then if it shut down like that it didn't want to boot back up. It usually had to go through system restore to finally boot back up. So I called Toshiba and they said I needed to send the laptop in to them and they would fix it. I asked how long the laptop would be gone, he says well anywhere from four weeks on up because we don't know what's wrong with it. Great!! So grudgingly I agreed and they sent me a box. I mailed it off and to my suprise it was back in two weeks. I took it out the the box so excited to have it back and it doesn't even boot up!! The power light comes on and you can hear sounds like it's booting but in a few seconds it shuts back off. Never any response from the screen. I even tried hooking it to my other monitor and no luck. So I called Toshiba again this time very upset. Their solution : Send it back and we will fix it. ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? At least when I sent it in the first time it worked but they sent it back to me destroyed!! After I got off the phone with them very upset that all they were doing was sending me another box so I could send it back again I got to examining the laptop and found scratches and dings on several places on it that I KNOW where not on it when I sent it in. I polished my laptop daily and took extremely good care of it as anyone that spent that much money on an item would. So tomorrow morning I'm supposed to call back and get Customer Relations and see if they will replace it (they were closed when I called tonight). The tech person I talked to tonight said it was very unlikely that they would replace my laptop. Their policy is to keep fixing it until the warranty runs out. Then your on your own. I even tried to go to Best Buy for help but their return policy for Laptops is 14 days!! What a joke. So all in all STAY AWAY FROM TOSHIBA AND BEST BUY!!
