Dealer's Garage Enter Door Hit My Car When I Drove In
At about 1PM on September 3, 2010, I went to Ourisman Chantilly Toyota (Toyota Dealer) (address: 4135 Auto Park Circle, Chantilly, VA 20151) to do Toyota suggested maintenance for my Toyota Sienna 2006 van. I follow Toyota's sign which shows "PLEASE DRIVE IN" and drove in an opened enter door (the middle door among three doors). However, after I drove in Toyota’s enter door, the automated garage door dropped down and hit the top of my car, and then opened again. My car’s window shield and roof were damaged. My left hand was scratched by the broken glass and blood came out. My little kids, my son and daughter, were in the car when it was hit by the door and were frightened a lot. The enter door of Ourisman Chantilly Toyota cannot open automatically when a car approaching it. The Service Manager came to see my car and called a body shop. He told me, “it (my van) will be fixed”. I told him I had a travel plan at the labor-day weekend. He told me, “you will get a car”. On the base of my conversation with Toyota’s Service Manager, I thought Toyota would fix my car and give me a rental car for my labor-day vacation. That Service Manager also directed me to report this accident to my own insurance company. However, after I reported this accident to my insurance company, Toyota’s Service Manager told me it was my mistake to drive in Toyota’s exit door. He also told me I have to fix my damaged car through my insurance company and Toyota is not responsible to fix my car and will not give me a rental car. I took a picture for the enter door which has sign “PLEASE DRIVE IN" but was declared as an exit door by Toyota. I exchanged information with Toyota Service Manager after the Police came. Toyota Service Manager wrote down the phone number of Toyota’s insurance company. However, after I called the phone number Toyota gave me, I was told that that number is a residential house. I went back to Toyota and asked that Service Manager. That Service Manager searched their insurance phone numbers. I saw from the computer that the phone number that Service Manager initially gave is not in the computer.
