Deceptive Advertising
I was attempting to purchase a 2011 Highlander Hybrid from Andy Mohr Toyota. They advertised the car on the Internet for $35, 784. I received correspondence from the sales representative, Rick Sullivan, that the MSRP of $38, 929 included the destination charge of $810. On the Internet, when I add the price of $35, 784 + savings of $3, 145 I get an MRSP of $38, 929. This indicated to me that the destination charge was part of the savings they were advertising. Upon trying to purchase the car I was presented with an invoice which showed a destination charge of $810. When I explained the situation I was referred to the small print on the website. The deal was cancelled and I lost $100 on a plane ticket reservation and about 8 hours of my time arranging the deal. MSRP. Just got off the phone with the General Manager, Erik Spersrud, and he treated me like crap. He kept referring to the fine print and basically said he could read it fine, why not me? I replied I am a lot older and probably don't have as good of eyesight as him. Though Toyota USA Customer Satisfaction was nice on the phone I have my doubts that there will be a positive outcome for me. BUY FORD ESCAPE HYBRID.

No refund on my deposit
I have made a booking of Toyota Vios and paid a sum of Rs3, 000 as deposit at a Toyota dealer Wheelcorp Sdn Bhd (Old Klang Road) on 7th August 2010.

Due to unexpected financial problem recently, I am unable to buy the car and appeal to the dealer for a refund. The branch manager rejected my appeal and threaten to forfeit the deposit if I can’t pay the down payment to collect the car. She is very rude and said she has all the right to forfeit in the event of cancellation of order for any reason whatsoever.

I then contacted UMW Toyota Sdn Bhd (Malaysia Headquarter) 603-51236688 at Shah Alam to explain my situation. The customer service representative said that they cannot do anything about it and my deposit shall be forfeited.

I understand according to the agreement there is a clause stating that the deposit paid by the customer be forfeited in the event of cancellation by customer.

However, I just could not believe that Toyota Malaysia is so inconsiderate that they will forfeit customer’s deposit money even if the customer is facing financial difficulties. I would really appreciate if anyone can help me on this matter.

service
I went to service my car due to having the engine light on. They tried to convince me to get over three thousand dollars of repair, but the cause was the thermostat. I agree to have the thermostat because this was the original reason for the engine light on. I als0 agreed to have them change gaskets due to leaking. They told me they would clean the engine after they completed the work. To my amazement the parts costed one hundred and fifteen dollars and labor was eight hundred and five. I pull off after verbalizing that i felt they took advantage of me. I get half a block away and my car shut down on me and i couldn't get in back on. Now take into account that i have taken good care of my car and it has never ever left me stranded. This whole process took three days and they expected me to pay for one day of the rental car. How do they expect this longtime believer of Toyota to continue when they ripped me off! Attached is pic of my dirty engine.

Abuse of the Elderly
My 79-year old mother who lives alone in Brentwood, Long Island, was recently manipulated into buying a brand new, $35, 000 car for a near-total stranger.

There are certain facts to this transaction that are suspect: My Mother’s credit was checked twice by Huntington Toyota-July 14th and July 16th and the first credit check appears to be unauthorized. After many attempts and phone calls from both family members and our attorney to prove the authorization, the dealership has produced no authorization. The sales agreement has the odometer mileage written in, however the original copy that my mother has does not have the number listed. There is also the matter of the obscenely high and completely unnecessary maintenance agreement, gap insurance and insurance sold to my mother for a car she neither needed nor intended to drive.

On July 15, this woman somehow convinced my mother to drive to the Toyota dealership in Huntington, this is the one and only time my Mom went to the dealership. Keep in mind that my Mother basically only drives to three places: the supermarket, church, and Target, all within minutes of her home. We have no doubt that this woman led her to Huntington. Once at the dealership, a salesman named "Mike C." sold my Mom a brand new Toyota Camry for $35, 000 and also signed her up for a new insurance policy with GMAC costing $4, 000 for one year, for that one car. The terrible thing is she already has a car -a fully paid off Hyundai, for which she already has insurance with Geico, (and carries proof of insurance both in her car and on her person). So, my Mom drove home in her Hyundai and the woman drove off in the brand new Camry, (even though the dealership signed grandma up for a sole-driver insurance policy). To add insult to injury, Mike C. also signed Grandma up for a $1, 500 maintenance contract, (note that similar contracts are illegal in some states), as well as gap insurance for an additional $1000.

My Mom has insisted that this Julia signed the sales agreement for the car. She claims that the woman said that she, not my Mother would be responsible for the payments, as she had agreed to be a cosigner for Julia as a favor. My Mom also insists that this was the discussion over and over at Toyota. Once we tracked down the sales agreement, however, it became clear that only my mother signed the papers and that the financing company had no record of this woman at all. The bill goes only to my mother, and there was no one else registered to pay online. (My niece tracked down the sales agreement by speaking with the financing company on numerous occasions. She also attempted to get the agreement from the dealership. Mike C., as well as two managers promised to fax the agreement on three separate occasions, but all three individuals ended up ignoring my request altogether).

In general the dealership has not been sympathetic at all-their view is that they sold a car. Period. That she was not compromised when she purchased the car and that it was for her, (this from the GM Lenny Cafarelli). The finance person, Rose, was convinced the car was for Lucia, (which is either confusion or another pseudonym for ), and that they had been roommates/friends for years, which is a total fabrication. On whose part I do not know. She was also completely insulting stating she “was very impressed by how good her English was” and how good her credit is, which is a racial slur. My mother is of Puerto Rican descent, has lived in the US for over 50 years, is the widow of a veteran and is the mother of a deceased veteran. Extremely insulting.

My mother is a widow who lives alone on a fixed income and is unfortunately the perfect person to be conned in this manner, she is especially vulnerable to someone who is recommended by her local church. She fits the online profile for abuse, literally to a t-her family is long distance, she has good credit and was completely taken advantage and conned by this woman, , and by the Huntington dealership.

My mother had intended, as a favor, to cosign a loan for this person, and it was always her understanding that this person would be solely responsible for the car loan. This woman, is only an acquaintance of my mother’s, through the Church.

What's worse is that at the time of her visit to the dealership, my mother's health was in steady decline, such that she was even more confused than normal. On August 3rd, she was admitted to the hospital for two emergency blood transfusions because her hemoglobin level had dropped to below 7, indicating severe anemia. In the days leading up to her visit with the ER she was winded and extremely disoriented. In the days after she was released from the hospital, she revealed some of the details of what happened with the woman. We immediately ran a credit check and discovered the $35, 000 Toyota transaction, as well as the two credit checks. It is only due to her hospital stay and subsequent revelation that the family was aware of the car purchase.

Exploitation of the elderly is looked at as a serious crime in NYS and is defined as, “ Improper use of an adults funds, property or resources by another individual, ”(Social Services Law 473.6). This surely fits the definition, but we are not attracting any interest from the DA regarding the matter. Elder abuse statistics are on the rise, and unfortunately more people need to be made aware of situations such as what happened to my Mother. This is sadly a story that supports those rising statistics.

rip offs
STAY AWAY !!! HONEST TO GOD...They are big thieves, they tell you one thing on the phone and complete different story when you get there, They are extremely pushy even when they clearly see that my lady dont like the vehicle, they slam on extra big charges o n your credit card which was never agreed, i had to fight them for months and months until credit card company realized their crooked operation, By the way, after my attorneys investigation he discovered that the SO CALLED FIVE STAR reviews about this firm was done by family members of the staff of the dealership, and it was reported to Department of consumers affair .Minister Derek Jones Richmond Virginia

Rear speaker defect
I purchased a 2005 Toyota Camry, LE, one week ago, used. I noticed while listening to the radio, the rear speaker making a funny noise. Upon investigation, I lightly touched the speaker, it crumbled into a big whole, the other speaker is cracked across, and I dare not touch it. I did not notice this when purchased, and I guess the dealer did not either. I plan on calling tomorrow to find out if they will repair it, but while online tonight, I ran across this forum, and there was 11 pages of other people who experienced the same thing. I felt it my duty to report this. I plan on showing the information to the dealer, as well. It seems to me this is justification for Toyota to make a recall and make restitution?? Please advise! Check out this web-site and feel free to offer me any suggestions in order to get this repaired, recalled, etc.

Brakes
Brakes - apply the brakes @ 60 miles per hour the car's front end shakes and you feel as if your going to lose control of the auto, went to the Dealer they told me they couldn't replace the brakes without charging me and was told I still had over 80% of the brakes( that the brakes were WARPED ) but my warranty had run out( in other words my breaks were not used that much) so they said the other option was to rotate the rotors and sand the pads I did that and the problem is the same it's a 2007 Camry 6cyl had under 30, 000 miles w/ all the extras. >>> I feel this should be a recall <<<
I have been a Toyota owner for many year BUT this is my last one...

safety recall
my 2006 toyota corolla started giving me transmission problems in July, 2010. Sopon after the problems started I found out that a safety recall of the engine control module can cause the engine to stop while being driven, or the engine may not start, the engine light to come on, and harsh shifting ; all of these effects which may cause transmission problems. My car had all of these symptons, therefore the engine control module could have caused transmission problems. Toyoto refuses to admit that the ECM caused these transmission problems. The car has stopped in traffic several times and I have had one accident because of this problem. My car now needs a new transmission, but Toyota will not pay for it: this is ridiculous, Toyota knows that recalled ECM caused that transmission to go out and they are trying to use the excuse that the car had too many miles on it. Toyoto doesn't stand behind their product, and this is highway robbery. There is no way a 2006 Toyota should have transmission problems, especially when the maintenance was kept up on it. In essence, after 100, 000 miles the transmission will possibly go out on the 2006 Toyota Corollas. I am seeking an attorney.

Sparkplug / Ignition coil Failure
Incident = On 1/19/11 My 2005 Prius began to shake while driving on surface streets. I pulled over checked the car but saw nothing that would cause the shaking.
I then started the car and began to drive. The shaking started again like an unbalanced washer. I took the car to Hollywood Toyota. Toyota checked the car and indicated that 2 Spark plugs had gone bad and that 2 Ignition coils had shorted out. As a result the engine had carbon deposits and needed extensive cleaning.
I have done all scheduled maintenance to Toyota specification.

As a result i contacted Toyota's offices to voice safety concerns. Were there any other similar reported incidents and do they consider any safety issues. Didn't get a clear answer at all from them. Toyota once again is in denial with Prius problems.

Damage Resulting = Cost was $989.81. I feel that Toyota needs to reimburse me for these repairs. Had this happened on the freeway results could have been different. I complained to Toyota and they have offered me $348.10 off the total work.

Its not just a money issue its a safety issue as well.

Warranty Scam
At approximately 40K miles on my 2008 Sienna Limited I was applying a leather cleaner to the seats. I then spotted a crack in the side panel of the passenger side seat. I went to Germain Toyota in Florida and had the standard 40K service and showed them the seat problem. They came back to me and said the vehicle is out of warranty. I then took the complaint to Toyota and got the same run around. The old warranty game! They had to know that the crack happened before the warranty ran out! Thats the end of Toyota for this family!
