Bad service
Does anyone have any advice on what steps to take in a situation when an online vendor just doesn't care?

My wife and I are Americans living in Africa with our two little boys. Christmas takes lots of advance planning and purchasing months in advance. We did so with a little scooter we bought from toysandhome.com. Months after our purchase, my wife started making simple inquiries about what the status was and whether or not it had been sent and got no response.

She was very polite and low-key in her letters, but finally this week we got a nasty message from them after we got a belated receipt from them:

"Yes you have told us your disappointed and will never order from us again. We do not see a reason to reply to your emails since you are so disgraced by us. The manufacturer Chicco was out of stock of the item. Sorry for the delay but there was nothing we could do. We also wish you a safe holiday overseas..."

We were floored by this which we interpretted as, "screw you, we have your money, we ignored you, and there's nothing you can do or we will do, so what. Go to hell."

Terrible customer service
THE worst online shopping experience I've ever had. My wife and I tried to purchase a baby walker from their site. First, at the end of our online transaction, I noticed that their site was not using SSL encryption. So, all our personal and credit card information was sent unencrypted over the internet! Calling customer server to tell them about the problem went nowhere, as the rep was not the least bit apologetic. He said that the systems people had done some updates to the server recently and that they probably just forgot to re-encrypt the site. He did offer to cancel our order right there, because apparently they don't need our business. Then, even though their site claims delivery of all items in 10-14 days, a week later we got an email saying the item had shipped. No tracking info, no carrier info, no expected delivery date, nada. So, we waited. And waited. And waited. Almost two weeks later, we emailed (after trying unsuccessfully to contact them via landline for a week), asking for a status update. They emailed back and said they couldn't provide the status and they had no tracking information for the shipment. They also said that they had over 60 orders for this product, as if to offer some very lame excuse for their incompetence. After our last irate email to them demanding tracking information or that they cancel our order, they responded almost immediately telling us our order was canceled and our payment refunded. This means that they were feeding us a line of horse crap about the item being shipped in the first place!! Almost 24 hours after the order was canceled, I still haven't seen the payment refunded. DO NOT PURCHASE FROM THIS COMPANY. They are rude, unprofessional liars, who are not at all interested in customer satisfaction.

Lack of Communication
We ordered a Little Tikes play set mid Nov. We were are assured it would be here by Christmas. Only 1 box arrived Dec. 12th. The shipping company lost the other 2 boxes. We were told to get rid of the 1 box because a replacement oreder was on the way. We asked that if it would not be here by Christmas we would need a refund so that we could get our daughter something for Christmas. We were again assured (after many un-returned emails) that the replacement order would be here by Christmas. The Friday before Christmas we contacted Toys and Home only to be told that there had been a chance it would not make it here on time, that was not what they had originally told us. Our daughter had nothing for Christmas. Out of nowhere the shipping company delivered the 2 missing boxes on Jan. 2nd., Jan. 3rd the replacement order arrived. We now have 1 1/2 play sets. We have contacted them 3 times on what to do now with the extra boxes with the no answer. This company completely lacks in customer service and commuincation. We will never buy from them again as well as tell everyone we know about our horrible experience.

Rude customer service and "In-stock Items" not in stock!
AWFUL Customer Service. In-stock Item not in-stock. Rude. Customer Service didn't reply to multiple emails for order updates/inquiries. Calls to customer service forwarded us into a "Mailbox Full" voicemail multiple times.

This is their email back to us on 12/22:
"You ordered this on the 17th. Do you think you could have waited any longer to disappoint your nephew?" Kinda funny, if it were a joke. Do not use this company.

The only thing that got a return call (a very angry return call) and that angry email was an email from us threatening to report them to the Better Business Bureau. They specifically said it was our fault anyway for ordering an item on December 17th. I have a feeling that a couple (million) Americans order on or around 17th.

If they can't support business at that time of year then they shouldn't advertise this towards the main logo on the home page of their website:
"Most products ordered by December 18th can still get on Santa's list! Click here for more info."

We have no problem with an item out of stock or if they can't provide something by 12/25. However no updates and rude communications aren't acceptable.

Do not use this company.
