Defective product/ poor quality
I purchased a cub cadet 1050 lawn tractor at TSC in hamilton on 8/14/09. in sept. I had to have it repaied because the hood came all the way off. area wide service in englewood ohio took care of the issue under warrenty. 2 days after i got the mower home, which was two weeks after being in the shop, the belt snapped at the seam. I first contacted the manufacturer. they told me the belt only had a 30 day warrenty. i told them that the mowere was just in the shop for 2 weeks and that the mower only had 14 hours of use on it. they the told me to take the issue up with where i bought it from. i then called tsc and spoke with the store manager Bill. I told him I would like to have the mower replaced or my money back. he said he would replace the mower but he was first going to have his repair man look at the mower. when his repair man contacted me he said before even looking at the mower that the belt broke from the deck hitting something. i can say the deck never hit anything that would go beyond normal use. i have had many mowers prior to this. i am also well versed in diagnosing belt problems as well as i deal with belts in my trade of HVAC. His mower man had come back and said the belt broke due to a rock getting jammed in the deck even though no rock even present in the area where the belt broke let alone in the deck. in my experience with past mowers when the blades would get bogged down with even excess grass the belt would spin and squeak on the stopped blade pulley. afetr consulting with a fellow HVAC man I believe that the belt broke because of one of two things, the idler pulleys are putting too much tension on the belt or the belt was defective with a weak seam. after tsc was informed by their mower man Bill offered to split the repair bill with me of $200. I find this unacceptable. at this point i want my money back. i will settle for a new mower if i have to but prefer to have my money back so i can get a different brand of mower not manufactured by MTD Inc. your help in taking care of this matter will be greatly appreciated. the last thing i expect to deal with after spending $2200 on a mower is to have it break down twice in the 90 days after buying it.
