inferior product
On Oct 29, 2007, I contracted with an authorized Trane dealer and purchased an XL14 SEER, model # 4WCY4024A1000AA. On April 25, 2011 after only using the air conditioning for 2 summers, our unit no longer cooled. It blew air but no cold air. On 4-26-11, I contacted a certified Trane technician to come out and diagnose the problem. I was informed that beneath the panel, the copper distributor lines touched and due to the normal vibration of the system it caused the copper to have a hole in the line. This leaked out the freon enough that it would not hold a charge. I could have them replace the coil that has the lines built on for over $900 or I could repair the copper line and have it soldered for $655. My system has a 10 yr warranty on parts but not labor. I decided to minimize the damages and paid to have the line repaired instead of having Trane replace the coil on 4-27-11. I also contacted Ingersol Rand on 4-27-11 for a phone number and was given the wrong number and hung up on instead of transferred like I was told. I looked up Trane online and found a consumer website to file a complaint and did so. Today, 4-29-11, I received an email with no name back that said it was out of their control. I called the Tyler, TX office and asked to speak to Nicole Fields, the supervisor. I was told she was at lunch and would return my call. The email tried to put the fault on the installer, the technician, or me. None of the three listed manufactured or assembled that system. This is a manufacturing defect that should be recalled & repaired at Trane's expense. They do not want to pay their certified tech for this but neither did I!!! They don't care about the quality of their product, because if they did, they would have quality control measures in place for this and not have outsourced the coil to be made in China! They sell inferior and defective products and certainly lack in customer service!

It really ain't hard to stop a trane
Both compressors in the my four year old two stage Trane AC unit went out during 100 degree weather in Allen, Texas.
Trane did not have these very critical parts available for replacement, the story is "they are being manufactured at the factory" this is day 4 with no AC, the say the parts will "PROBABLY BE READY" on Thursday.
We'll see.
They hide their customer service numbers, had to go through the Better Business Bureau website to find it.
All I can say is, don't buy a TRANE.

Sells a lemon
Our less than 4 year old $9655 Trane Ac needs a new compressor. Even though the part is covered it is still going to cost us over $890 for labor and installation. This system when it was less that 1 year old had a small leak and needed freon. I truly beleive we have a lemon. I am disappointed in the performance of this top of the line name brand.

I have bought my last Trane anything
Below is a letter I sent to Trane back in '07. Another couple of years have passed and now I am really tired of this product. You can't clean the collection cells back to their original white color so how effective can they be if they are stained and dirty? Vacuuming doesn't work. Rinsing doesn't work and you can't even use mild soap like Seventh Generation or Dr. Bronners. I use a styrofoam packing peanut to clean the field charger electrodes. I want Trane to replace the collection units with clean one and show me the method to get them back to bright white each time they need cleaning like they were when new. And they should refund my money for misrepresenting a product that isn't easy to clean and carries a warning label "CAUTION SHARP EDGES THIS PART IS NOT SERVICEABLE BY THE HOME OWNER". It doesn't sense the dirt level as the original brochure stated. I have bought my last Trane anything.

Smells like trouble
I have a Trane furnace warranty expired October 22 2008. Today I had to have the circuit board replaced. Trane will not answer my emails and I had no choice and had to pay for this repair. Funny thing was the board for my furnace has had an upgrade made to it and the original one isn't on the market anymore. Smells like trouble to me. Never again will I have a Trane furnace in my house.

Piece of crap
Purchased Trane furance w/honeywell humdifer & central AC for a 3 unit small apartment builing, one per unit in late May 2007. This is the second winter, still experiencing problems. I have already replaced sensors on 2 units. Last night on the coldest day in Chicago, we had no heat. The units are vented directly off east exterior wall, my installer says that Trane has a malfuntion, and high winds it causes a backdraft into unit thus putting out the flame. I live in the Windy city. Last night the installer had to cut off the fresh air pipe, and remove it totally off unit, says cold air caused condinsation to freeze in pipe thus plugging up the fresh air pipe. After 14 1/2 hrs heat is back on. Either I have a dummy for a installer or Trane products are a peice of crap!

Nothing, but problems
I have a XB80 furnace it’s less the 5 years and and is not worked very hard here in Seattle. Now it won't turn on. The small blower starts then it flashes the led 3 times for a while then stops. The main burner never lights. After about 5 seconds it starts all over again.
I see that many people have this problem but I can't find a definitive solution.

Terrible experience
Do not buy a Trane . All the ratings are bs. I am a landlord that has dealt with numerous products over the past 20 years. The Trane system I bought broke down (dumping water on electronic components) within 3 years. Go with Rheem or anybody else. I've bought virtual no name units that have lasted longer. They do not honor their manufacturers or extended warranty either. I had to pay for all new parts. They stated that the unit was not under normal use (bs) and that the specific parts were not covered by the warranty (bs). Useless.

Simply awful
This product has had to have 2 circuit boards replaced within 2 years of installation. I paid as much for the servce to do it as I would have paid for a cheap furnace from Home Depot instead of the $2000+ I overspent on this piece of junk. Trane is washing their hands of me as well as the installer. Never buy a Trane...yes I researced it before purchasing and it was rated highly by consumer reports. Boy were they wrong!
