Dropshipping Agents Can Hurt Your Business

UKDropshipGroup.com exemplifies the damage that agents and middlemen can inflict on sellers. This company is an agent or middleman that puts sellers in touch with suppliers in return for a fee, but “agent” is not what they call themselves. They are more than happy to let you go on thinking that they are suppliers so you never have to wonder why those promised seller margins disappear when you browse through their product listing.

This is what happens when you join UK Dropship Group: The company is a sister site of the equally disreputable agents such as DVD Dropship and DPBUK. The bait — promises of heavy discounts on their product ranges including DVDs, gadgets, sports gear, lingerie and inkjets. Once you have taken the bait and signed up for paid membership, you are finally allowed to go through individual product prices.

And then it hits you — the best products are out of stock or they are so highly priced that you cannot hope to sell them through eBay, not with competitors offering the same item for half the price. What remains to your lot are less attractive items and you will have to work hard to find buyers for them.

Even if you roll up your sleeves and get down to work promoting the products, you will be handicapped by website quality. UK Dropship Group stipulates mandatory website purchase. No, the website is not offered free with membership. You are expected to pay hosting costs and you are expected to pay for at least one year’s worth hosting when you sign up.

There is just no way out for the hapless seller who has tried to make a hideously designed website work in his or her favor and wants to leave after having failed in their attempt.

You have already lost on two counts by this time: you have put in a lot of money in buying membership and a website and you have put in a lot of time and effort on promoting outrageously priced products which are probably not going to find customers.

There is more to come Even if you miraculously manage to build some sort of positive reputation with your customers, there is always the risk of losing every part of your investment. This generally comes when a customer needs to have an item within a stipulated timeframe and you are unable to supply the product because your supplier is always out of stock.

It is next to impossible to produce a good reputation when you face shipping glitches and “product unavailable” situations. There is nothing worse than letting your customers down, which is going to be a frequent occurrence if you work with the UK Dropship Group.

Blind Subscription — The Worst Way To Source Products

You would not order products online before you know their price, right? Then why subscribe to websites such as Dropshipland.com, where you cannot go through the price list before subscribing? UKDropshipGroup’s fee is not low by any standard. Before you pay those high subscription charges, you have the right to know if you will be getting your money’s worth.

Sure, UKDropshipGroup promises that you will get products at discounts of 40 - 70%. Lingerie, they tell you, is available at a discount of up to 40% and inkjets carry a 25% discount. They also give fair warning that product prices are bound to change at any time depending on demand and supply dynamics. However, they never tell you the price of an individual product.

This is why so many subscribers feel cheated once they pay the fee and gain access to the entire product listing.

Not all products in a range carry the promised discounts. The more popular products, the ones you are sure you can sell on eBay, are so expensive that sellers stand no chance against competition on eBay. The discounts are offered almost exclusively on products no one will buy either on eBay or on your ecommerce website.

If by rare good luck you come across a product that is priced right, and it is something that will find buyers online, you can bet your bottom dollar (or pound) that it is out of stock. There will be days when you promise your customers that a particular product is in stock, persuade them to place an order and when you forward the order to UKDropshipGroup, the product is no longer “available”. Magic? Deception? You decide.

Emails are rarely answered and calls go unattended. A company representative often tells frustrated subscribers who vent on online forums that the email they sent is probably in the subscriber’s spam box.

If you have to join a paid supplier website, at least make sure that you can check out product prices before you join. Why should the website hide product prices, particularly when they have already mentioned the amount of the discount you can expect? When you are risking your money on a business venture, it is always worthwhile to know exactly what you can expect in return.

UKDropshipGroup does have a refund policy, but from the looks of it, it exists only on paper. Ex-subscribers have often complained about the difficulty of getting a refund if they are not happy with the products or customer service. Prevention is better than trouble; find bona fide suppliers who will dropship products free and offer reasonable discounts.
